Your post is a little apprehensive about the riders asking if it is normal or an issue. I do agree that the ABS avoids the rear wheel locking however what is expected from the rear break is stopping power atleast. The rear breaks of my bike atleast are not performing that function at all and that too with a 230 mm rear disc break. If you say it is expected that I doubt it. Anyway I am visiting the KTM service centre in couple of hrs and will share the feedback from the KTM guys soon.
did u got ur bike washed or something?
What happens is these ignorant SVC's put that wax polish everywhere to sine the bike...Even on the discs!! So as its wax based the brakes wont cause enough friction to engage and stop so u might feel that they are not working. Just ask them not to do wax polish and then get it done when in front of u. Apart from that disc brakes should be fine.

Every bike technically needs the wheels to be balanced and weights applied to compensate for the slight difference in weight distribution of the new tyre and is a procedure more important on faster bikes as the effects of an unbalanced wheel are more noticeable and dangerous on faster machines. This is something which seems to be rare to me at least, I got my tires changed in Kerala and couldn't get the wheels balanced at all. The only shop that I know can do this is the MRF service station in Cochin and they refused it cause I had Michelin tyres on. I'd love be wrong here, especially in the case that it is common in Bangalore cause I just moved here a month back. But if it isn't the case, that would be a really kick ass service as it is mostly reserved to the superbike SVCs in most cases. Don't kill me if I'm wrong though. 😬
      Must ride on!

        Bang on point....
I got it done on my Apache RTR 180 here in Bangalore after i changed my tires as i was feeling wobble at above 60Kmph.

I'm planning to book Duke 390 2017 in coming week.

Can anyone please suggest which dealer/showroom to go for in Bengaluru? [heard/read Langford KTM is good and they provide test ride as well]

Thanks Sumesh! I have only heard bad about BTM showroom thanks to various forums and google reviews (which includes SVC)

I will probably go to Langford KTM or Indiranagar KTM(as suggested by sdkiran)

            Thanks Guys

            • Strange Vibrating Sound in My New Duke 390 2017

I recently got my hands on my new KTM Duke 390 2017 , it has hardly covered 100 km and there is a weird sound coming from engine @ 5000-5200 rpm after engine gets warm(ie. after covering 5-6 kms). This vibration is only present in this particular rpm band. I told my ktm dealer about this problem but they are unable to find the cause of this problem. What should i do now. This is very disappointing. Has someone noticed the same problem in his bike???

After a wait of almost 2 months, got my duke 390 today finally. I upgraded from pulsar 180 so i thought it will be difficult to handle initially but it is so easy to drive this bike. Really loving it.

                First Impressions

                1) Loads of power
                2) Easy maneuverability
                3) Bike is really smooth above 4k rpm
                4) Bike came with latest v39 tft update and it is very responsive to operate.
                5) Engine heat is bearable in b2b traffic
                6) No bluetooth conectivity for android phones now. Ktm will launch official app but not sure when. Even ktm manager is not sure how long it will take.
                7) Gearshift is really smooth although finding neutral will take some effort.

Overall i am very happy with my decision......

The bikes always have vibration at that particular RPM that you pointed out, especially at that 4200 to 5000 RPM. Although "sounds" can mean a variety of sounds, if you are facing vibrations, at that particular spot, you can get the tank and shroud locks and bolts checked once again, and torque then again, if found off slack. There are lots of tightly packed parts on the bike and the probability of vibrations induced by parts touching each other is highly probable.

                    Cheers!

                    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

DUDE!!! Thank god I found someone who's noticed the same. Sadly, 5.5k is the most vibey range of this motorcycle. You'll even notice the handleabar tends to vibe a little more at this speed. So i guess, we just need to deal with this. Pisses me off because I'm pretty sensitive to vibes. My friends oddly, don't notice this on my bike, they're fine with the vibes :P

the sponge one with NO designs whatsoever tends to last longer & reduce vibrations..

Thanks jdev16, It has been good so far , few things to love about and some not ..overall the ride is good in the traffic as well i think the heating issue is bearable atleast in Pune traffic which is not as bad as Bangaluru. I took it for a short ride to Lavasa last Sunday and it was fun to ride reminded me of my good old RX100 days [emoji2] .The power delivery is smooth and Acceleration is fantastic. I do not remember coming down below third gear during assent. I found throttle response to be too sensitive but crisp..fun most of the times but pain in too much traffic. One thing really annoyed me is too much downshifting.i mean I have to put it in 1st gear most of the times as 2nd gear is too tall for crawling speeds although you can play around with clutch but I do not prefer to put extra load on it. It's my personal view as I am coming back from CI Royal enfields which are low RPM bikes hence the behaviour and characters are different. I did feel the rear Breaks lacks the bite which will improve over the time although my bike had some troublesome clip in the rear Breaks.
It's a fantastic machine and I am not the one who bought it for fancy gadgetry .I come from Royal Enfields family Fuel gauge , Tachometer itself is like ab Rulaiga kya kind of feeling for me [emoji23] I know I am not going to use even half of them. to me it was the engine, handling and ABS and rest I can built over it. I wanted a touring bike and I think with few Mods it should be a worthy one[emoji56] .
