Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
S1DOriginally posted by s1d View Postthe bike i test rode was a new bike (maybe brand new cos i saw them fit the rear view mirrors and the fuel tank was dry and they filled up fuel in front of me) , and i did not find any problem with the brakes. the rear is usually has less bite compared to the front. and whatever fancy pad it is, they need to bed in before performing optimally. and dont forget this bike comes with abs, so locking the rear is out of question unless you disable/change to sup moto mode.
without riding his bike, i cant say for sure if it indeed is an issue or just normal (some people do not know what to expect or how it normally is.. and end up confusing others and create 'issues' which in fact are non-issues)
Your post is a little apprehensive about the riders asking if it is normal or an issue. I do agree that the ABS avoids the rear wheel locking however what is expected from the rear break is stopping power atleast. The rear breaks of my bike atleast are not performing that function at all and that too with a 230 mm rear disc break. If you say it is expected that I doubt it. Anyway I am visiting the KTM service centre in couple of hrs and will share the feedback from the KTM guys soon.Last edited by prashanttomar1; 05-29-2017, 06:21 PM.

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
My 2016 Duke 390 had better feedback.. i would say it was good(only the back brake feel) but this one is literally doesn't exist ..Originally posted by chip94 View PostRegarding the issue on the rear brake. My 2016 390 had very little feedback from the rear and on kicking it hard, would trigger the ABS. However on my new 2017 390, the rear brake has even lesser feedback and is much much harder to engage ABS on it. But I sort of prefer the newer braking.
Although I use front brake all the time with little use to back brake , after seeing posts here I tried back brake.. It doesnt work at all... I would say only 20% of the brake works compared to what supposed to..
Front brake should be more than sufficient for most of the conditions on road but still back brake should be in condition too..
Will have to check in Service center during service.Last edited by srisathiyan89; 05-29-2017, 02:38 PM.

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Went to the service station to get the rear breaks checked , KTM guys told me that Sintered break pads are only on the front break the rear break pads are normal and will need some kms to get better bite. The service station guys did some tinkering with the rear breaks and it's better now I would say Atleast 40% better.

Yes you can..Originally posted by Sumesh Padmanabhan View Postis there a way to get the owner's manual other than via app store? Any idea?
manuals
Go to this website, select 2017 > Supersports > you will have a whole host of PDFs from 125 to 390 to 690 and you can download it from there.
P.S Select the right language, there are many languages in which the manual is presented in.
Cheers!

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
they probably rubbed the pads on sand paper. that's what i told you give it time.. or you can accelerate that bed in wear by pulling out the pads and rubbing it down on sand paper to remove a little material and maybe grease the caliper pin also. the rear is floating/sliding caliper (front is fixed), and i've found that it bites better once there is some wear (around 1mm) on it.Originally posted by prashanttomar1 View PostWent to the service station to get the rear breaks checked , KTM guys told me that Sintered break pads are only on the front break the rear break pads are normal and will need some kms to get better bite. you seemed like a person not very familiar with the mechanical's and hence did not want to bombard you with more technical information.
and the other reason is because without riding your bike, it's hard for one to accurately say if it indeed is an issue or something normal with the owner having different expectation. In such cases, if possible try to ride another similar bike so that you can get an idea if indeed something is out of place on your bike.. don't just go by what people (including me) post on the internet.. because we are merely speculating without actually riding the bike in question.

bro, yours is the 200 (no abs) and sparingly used !??Originally posted by Ajay Vishwanath View PostTBH, I did find that my sparingly used RC rear brakes got more bite than the '17 D390..
.. you've crossed 35k km !! so you have pretty much used the brakes a lot more than a bike that's done a couple 100km.. and don't forget your track exploits.

Yes, I am a novice when it comes to ABS and Disc brakes ..have been riding Cast irons for last 22 years along with 1947 Indian Chief and an RD350 all restored ground up at home hence not aware of all the technical aspects you just explained above.I agree with you that the break pads/liner needs little wearing to give a better bite and in the mean time the ABS prevents the rear to lock when you go real hard on it.
However, it still does not make sense to me. Breaks are there to stop the bike not to slow it down and if it still takes 1000 odd kms to make sure the break will start doing the function they are suppose to do then yes I am a little disappointed. We all know sometimes rear breaks are unavoidable and I realised the rear break issue in one of those situation itself hence asked incase anyone else facing similar issue.
I did take the test ride of the bike which had 45 kms on Odo and hence I could make out that something is wrong with my bikes rear break only.
About the service centre guys they changed the pin which was the culprit and reason for breaks not working properly , after the change the stops although the bite still needs improvement which I am sure will come with time.
I am pleased to learn all the technical aspects you can explain on the forum as that is one of the reason I am in this community.
Cheers!!

Hello Everyone,
This is my first post on Xbhp forum

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Hi guys,
I'm going to be taking delivery of a brand new KTM Duke 390 in the next few days after a 2 month wait.
Booked at KTM Indiranagar, Bangalore.
I have a question for you guys, especially people from Bangalore. Where do you buy tyres from? Is it easily available?
What's the pricing like? I understand that the best choice for the Duke 390 is either Metzeler or Michelin Pilot Street.
Pirelli Sport Demon is a kick-ass tyre as well.
I'm asking all this because I have an opportunity to get a shop in Kammanhalli to stock the tyres we need at great prices.
Please give me some feedback and inputs regarding any pain points for tyre changes (apart from the cost
) Cheers!
