Hi friends, again one quick question, I haven't been given any manual, the app is not working, the call centre doesn't connect to any person there, now how will be the free service happen, the dealer only gave a card kind of paper from ktm that has warranty details of the bike and the battery, can someone please help me

Regarding my initial impression, every time I ride, it's a big grin, the munches miles very easily, coming from pulsar 220, the handle bar feels self balanced, don't feel any pressure on wrist and no red marked on the palm, the seat despite being soft, is not as cushy as my modified seat of pulsar, doubt with the height, there is any way to modify or add more pad to the seat, I think I am going to look for padded jeans to ride.

Took biwi for a ride today 1 hr, 60 Kim's, she finds it better that pulsar220

So no issues on pillion comfort and other stuff, have to explore ways to add a side bad or something and a rear grab rail for long term, long distance riding, but initially quite, 10 plus colleagues test rode the bike and everyone had a big grin after the ride

No one other than KTM can service your bike. Others won't even touch your bike. Been there done that, ended up going back to KTM.

Oldman..so glad to hear about the pillion comfort..was nervous about it as Wifey not in the town when I bought the bike[emoji12] . I don't plan to use Duke during the long rides with her but still hoping it to be not a bum beaker on short rides for the pillion

Who does anything for free or which other automotive company doesn't 'chase' targets of service & spares ? Everybody needs to make money.. would you work for 'free' or take a lower salary or decline a pay hike ?
Try to be reasonable.. and ktm service/spares are pretty reasonable.
If you still cannot afford it, then learn how to maintain and do basic services yourself. Watching a couple of free services and using a little common sense one can easily do the basic service themselves.
There are very few mechanics who will touch the ktm's, and some might end up causing more issues.. purely due to the fact that your average road side mechanic doesn't have a reasonable idea on how these bikes are put together/function. Basic service they can manage.. but again the best is for you to watch the svc do a couple of free services and then maybe take it to a local mech and instruct him on how to proceed.
For major repairs, the svc is your best bet. And don't forget, your warranty will be void if you don't get it serviced at the svc at specified intervals. And ktm spares are not sold in local spares and neither are there any 'compatible'/local branded spares.

btw, how many km has your duke done and what are the spares that you think are expensive or had to replace ?

going to the same dealer for service ? I don't think it should be a problem. you will have the date of purchase on the rc , insurance , warranty paper.. and most of these ktm dealers are centrally computerized.
if you want to be on the safer side/keep a record, when they fill the job card, specifically mention it as the first free service and while collecting the bike, sign on the bill/job card with a comment as 'first free service' and get a copy of it from a nearby photocopy shop (say that you like to maintain records of your motorcycle). my svc has a multifunction printer and they let me take a copy of the job card.

Thanks mate, appreciate, spoke to the dealer today, he said everything is computarised, so will not be a issue, no need for service booklet and voucher

I've finally decided to take the plunge and buy the new 2017 KTM Duke 390..now its a matter of days before i make this happen
I went to HRBR KTM Showroom here at Bangalore today to check on the bike with my wife and she liked it although we could not get a test ride as all the test ride bikes were out for and "Orange Day" event.

However i checked few other details like the service manual and to my surprise the sale personal at the dealership showed me a pamphlet which he told is what we get ass bike manual and i was little surprised as i was expecting a booklet..is this true / correct ?

The pamphlet had a section for PDI check then warranty card with the clause and service intervals etc
              Ride HARD but Ride SAFE
              Cheers !!

yep, it's just a big card that can be folded with the bare minimum things as manual and the whole manual is at another location online..

                        Hi,

Is somebody able to decode the VIN number for the KTM duke 390 2017 model?
I just wanted to know in which Month was the bike manufactured. I searched a lot and found the code of year but i dont know which digit signifies the month of manufacture.

                        Thanks in advance.

Open the back seat and look for a big white tag/sticker on the wire. You can get manufacturing date and time from there.

I always keep a set of levers in my bag on tours and it did help once when a fellow rider crashed (the crash guard took the impact along with a broken rear brake lever. the bolts used on the crash guard are pretty soft and easily snap off and the crash guard also deforms easily.. this helps absorb a good amount of impact.) This guy has shorty brake & clutch levers and hence they escaped damage, and the handle bar was also in tact. This was a low speed crash (at around 45kmph ran in to a cyclist crossing the road)

I see that you are from Hyderabad (din't notice it earlier).. keep in touch with viaterra or maybe indimotard (based in bangalore iirc) for the risers.. they might come up with a solution (longer cables). Just curious, did the risers cause issues with the ride by wire wiring or just the clutch/brake line lengths ?
Who knows, maybe after riding a couple thousand km, you might get comfortable with the stock handle bar/seat positioning! Give your body sometime to get adjusted to the new riding position.
Thanks for the suggestion, its better to carry extra spare parts during long rides. For risers as of now front brake line length is the main issue to increase the height and other wires looked fine or can be adjusted.

Riding posture is fine for me as am getting used to it now but while continuously changing gears and using brake to slow down is the time when I feel more pressure on the arm and legs. Also got done with the 1st service in which they raised the handlebar by 1 mm I guess which is the max it can be done on the forks.

The 8th digit is the month and 10th digit is the year. That is how I decoded mine which is of May 2017.

Does the 2017 Duke 390 come with steel braided brake lines? I took a test ride yesterday - the bike had done just 62kms on the odo. The seating position is less cramped than the previous iteration - I found it to be more comfortable. Heating does happen, but that is probably because it was an absolutely new bike. There were also vibes at the lower end of the rev range. Pulling power is fantastic (me coming from Royal Enfield bike). Planning to book one after the monsoons.
