"it's a hot engine, the coolant will be consumed more & it will evaporate.. WTF?!?" your mech does have a good sense of humor. I would suggest you bleed your system if you haven't. If you've bled the system well, very well. Actually evaporation does occur, but, if anything, not more than a few ml, due to extreme heat, as coolant is basically water and additives. Mild coolant leak can evaporate outside the engine and won't show up as a leak, but your reservoir level shows you what's happening. Secondly, coolant mixing with oil can be easily found out by draining the oil during service, the oil would be watery, creamy and frothy and what not. Do keep a close eye on your coolant level, you just "might" end up replacing your impeller seal sooner or later.

In my bike, there is gap between the rear seat and the brake light and water goes through that gap and wet all the cables there.
High pressure washing does that, though it should be slightly wet, it shouldn't be close to a puddle like wet. Try not to direct water directly in place where there are panel gaps and especially under seat, as sensitive electronics lay nestled underneath the seat. Open the seats and use compressed air to get rid of all the water accumulation under the seat after a pressure wash, works effectively.

        Thanks for the reply.
Even with normal washing, water gets inside. I will post a pic tomorrow of the gap between the rear seat and the panel.

        Ride safe and have fun.

Duke 390 have issues, you can wait till 4 to 5 months, KTM may fix the issue. Again it's based on luck.

Dominar is heavy bike compared to Duke and have less issues, panel vibrations can fixed. Exhaust is mounted low, scrape in cornering. If t's okay good to go with the dominar.
The percentage of Duke 390 2017 bikes with issues is low enough to call it a reliable motorcycle. The issue with the digital meter/screen software is present which can be corrected by a software update . The Bluetooth functionality however, I agree is not successful. On the other hand the number of Benelli bikes on road is just a fraction of the high number of KTM bikes. The number of Benelli’s on the street is not high enough to bring any issue-ridden cases to mass attention. For duke 2017 even if a small fraction of bikes face issue, it would catch a lot of attention due to the high number of bikes on road.

Also, it looks like you are tooooooo good in your cornering, i haven't seen anyone come even close to scrape their exhaust. It is an upswept exhaust by the way.

          Cheers mate

Yes I agree. Heat on the left side in b2b traffic is another not so god thing about the duke. But the test drive I took did put a grin on my face.. Anyways will wait a few more months...

Yes I agree that only few users have reported coolant leak issue but I just dont want to take chances and be among those unlucky ones after spending so much..
The power of this bike beyond the capacity of other machines in this segment.
The heat dissipation issue has been addressed by KTM and the 2017 models atleast dissipate heat much better than before. Unless you are riding with naked legs in shorts , the heat is not that bad. To note, we are not supposed to ride such powerful two wheelers without proper riding gear or atleast a decent pair of jeans (jeans provide a very basic abrasion resistance when we hit the tarmac).
There are unlucky ones everywhere, any vehicle can be a lemon. Instead the more appropriate doubts should be – are the service centers equipped enough to handle such issues? I have driven this machine consistently for hours at a stretch.

          Cheers

If you book in Dec 2017 you'll get Nov 2017 stocks.
If you book in Jan you'll get 2017 Dec stock.
Cycle goes on. Cuz that's how they get new stocks. When old stock clears, new stock arrives.

                    Hey VJ,

Regarding the coolant vanishing issue, I along with a few other guys are facing it too. I've drained and bled the entire system properly as well as Checked for external leaks (Zero).

I did see another bike 17' 390 with the engine dropped to check for a blown head gasket but those guys found nothing wrong with it. They opened the engine for nothing :/

I've checked my oil, looks fine with no traces of coolant. No white smoke from the exhaust also.

As you mentioned, should I go ahead and tell those guys to replace the water pump/impeller seals?

I also added water for the time being as a stop gap measure. Is it possible for the water to evaporate and result in a drop of coolant level and me thus interpreting this as a drop in coolant level?

Evaporation of coolant does occur, but to an extent that it is extremely minimal to be of a concern. I'd recommend you to fill the reservoir to the max mark and observe from there on for a week. If the expansion and contraction keeps the coolant level stable, it might be just that a little extra coolant is all that the bike needed. If you see the coolant going past half mark within a week, a pump impeller replacement can be considered. Keep us posted.

                      Cheers!

                        Hi All,

                        A quick update.
So i was facing two issues repeatedly from quite some time.
                        1. I was facing an issue of a rubbing noise from my front dist brakes( something like chuk chuk chuk...). This became quite irritating as the sound sometimes was becoming loud as i rode for some time. I went to SVC twice after my first service just to show this issue. Every time the svc guys just took out the brake pads, cleaned them on sand paper and put them back it the sound went away. But after coming from svc hardly withing 5 kms it started coming again.
This weekend i took it again and showed them.
My luck somehow, i met a KTM Rnd engineer who also came to get his bike serviced. i mentioned this to him and they told me that this is a known issue and they are working on it. There is probably a software update coming in december.
After lot of discussion with their head and service engineer from Pune, i was told that there is an issue with sintered brake pads, they tend to rub as the clearance was very low. i was not convinced and hence wanted them to change it. Then i got a reply that in the new dukes these brake pads are now coming with something like a cover which basically does not allow the particles to stick to the brake pads. I got these plates fixed and (finger crossed) i have not faced any sound issue till now ( after around 50kms). But somehow i lost the bite of the front brake. I told this to the guys there but they told it was normal and i would get the bite within few days. I will update on this.. So if anyone is irritated like me they can ask for this cover on sintered brake pads. It should solve the issue.

                        2. Noise coming from headlight area.
This also was becoming a pain point for me as the rev grew higher, the sound increased. I asked them to look into this and the svc head opened the headlight and immediately asked to put a spring on the top screw of the headlight. This screw is sandwiched between the outer orange casing and the black cover behind. He told me that the new dukes are coming with this and this would solve the issue and suprisingly it did. When i asked them that if this is a known issue why is the ktm not calling an official recall to resolve this issue? I have seen many people complaining about this. He told me that they are only fixing it for the customers that are facing this issue . ( Not sure of this reply though as i cannot confirm if it is a jugaad or official solution but it is working for me.)
So if any one has these issues, they can mention these solutions and probably it can help.

                        Thanks
                        J

Even with normal washing, water gets inside. I will post a pic tomorrow of the gap between the rear seat and the panel.
I cleaned the bike yesterday and i confirm that the water gets under the pillion seat and under the driver's seat.

I have small query. Is anyone using bluetooth intercom here? Today I tried connecting my OnePlus 2 to the bike and my cheap intercom unit, which I bought from Aliexpress for 2500 bucks.
While my phone got connected to both the devices, but the I couldn't control the music from the bike's audio control. It did display the song that was playing, but neither the audio control worked, neither the play / pause button worked. Is there any setting that needs to be done for it to work.
If this has been answered previously please link me to it. I couldn't find it in search.

Also, is there any Facebook / whatsapp group for D390 owners? Would be glad to join it.

                              Hey all!
I'm new here😊..should have gone through this thread before getting the bike though.😕
Had enough issues with my bike to a point where i was mentally stressed out & was thinking to sell it off!..yeah guys...it was a very very disappointing ownership experience.Problems i have faced:
1.TFT condensation-Got it replaced, no changes whatsoever, lost those kms!..Got an update from another member that newly modified TFT's will roll out JAN 2018 and everybidy with the issue currently will get a replacement under warranty

2.Oil FIlter leak..Duh..just after 10 days of delivery!..the screws holding them had some issue

                              3.Headlamp fogging/Vibration-have asked for replacement..still pending😤

4.Coolant Leak-The WORST Thing that has happened to me!..noticed dry reservoir at just first 450kms...refilled...again dropped after 150kms...gave the bike for service..they were studiying on my bike😠...took them 2 weeks to figure out the leak...they changed the water pump seal first, still issue persisted..then changed the Impeller seal & was finally solved!..all tjis time the coolant was mixing with engine oil!😡😱..Damn you KTM...By this time(2 & a half weeks) i had made an owners club for all india 2017 duke 390 owners..and learnt from another member that he too had the same issue & his service centre manager told that 'the robots in the assembly line had not applied the engine seal correctly which caused a batch of bikes to be like this"...What the actual F#*😲!

5.Premature clutch wear-It happened when i gave my bike for first service & the service guys had adjusted the free play according to their wish which resulted in being the bike being ridden on half clutch.I rode like that without any such idea & i was experiencing clutch slipping after acclerating past 5k rpm...eventually it worsened & one fine day when i was riding back from another district(90kms from home)on the highway i gave a shot & the bike revved a lot but didnt catch up speed!..couldnt go above 50kmph!..was stuck like that & rode for about 70kms...and burnt my clutch!
Since clutch was not covered under warranty, i had to pay 4k for the replacement assembly which i had nothing to do.All because of the inexperienced service guys😠.Me & my dad had many talks with the ASM regarding each issue & the replies were just lame...infact we were planning to file a case in the consumer court as i was really fed up of these issues popping up one after the other!..I had high hopes for this bike & it was hard convincing my parents to get this bike as we all know what all a Duke is being compared to😕..Synonym of Death..BS
Any ways now the only thing i'm facing is a minor clutch slip when i revv the engine hard(slips between 7k-8krpms for a second or two) and that kind of scares me!..Dont what to do & i 've to get it checked again..also i've to get the headlamp replaced.
                              5months of ownership,5 Varieties of Issues...what a package!😣
