  • Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences

Moisture condensation in console is not an issue. It happens around the corners of the display and dries up in the sun. My bike stays parked outside through the night even in monsoons and there is no issue.

Recently I didn't use the bike for 2 weeks and the battery voltage had gone down. Started after 5-6 attempts.

The only real issue I feel in the 2017 Duke 390 is the intense heat on the left side of the bike in bumper to bumper traffic. It becomes too much if you're riding in the hot sun. Apart from that it's a good bike. No other issues.

      Hi Guys
I have been a silent reader of this thread since along time. I am planning to upgrade to a higher capacity motorcycle. I have shortlisted three of them and I am confused between them.
      1: Benelli 300 ABS
      2: 2017 DUKE 390
      3: DOMINAR 400

Service cost are on the higher side for benelli and the headlight design spoils the otherwise beautiful looks of this bike.

I found duke 390 to have lots of issues after following this thread. Radiator coolant leaking into engine oil is a major one. Water seeping into LCD console is another issue that I am concerned of.

Dominar has vibration issues, panel gaps and does not give the feel of power as seen on paper.

Do you guys have any suggestions. Which would be a good choice. Especially the current Duke 390 owners. Do you guys think there is a quality issue with current duke 390 models?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks guys..

I've read all about the problems you mentioned before i bought the bike.
      My conclusion is this.
You shouldn't worry about radiator leak. Not many users have this issue and consider that the motor is already tested from the previous 390 Dukes.
For the vibrations, remember that we are talking for a one cylinder moto. It is the norma to have vibrations on these machines.
The humidity in the LCD, i believe that even if you see humidity you will have no problem, but consider that the lcd will stop working after years and also have in mind that all the new models (not only KTM's) will have LCDs.

Extend your budget and get the ninja 400. There is no comparison at all.

Immediately asap. They are cleaning up the 300 stock with a good discount at the moment.

Not every showroom is offering discount, and they might launch 250 not 400.

I believe Kawasaki is planning to bring the Ninja 400. They aren't considering the 250 for the Indian market as of now. Atleast this is what I heard.

Yes I agree. Heat on the left side in b2b traffic is another not so god thing about the duke. But the test drive I took did put a grin on my face😁.. Anyways will wait a few more months...

I would suggest you to wait if you are not in a hurry to buy a new bike. Since there will be lot more to choose from next year like the Huskies or the ninja 400 and even the new RE's..

A very few people are facing major issues like coolant leak,, main problem is with the software and it can be fixed.. listen to me and go for Duke 390 ,, thank me later... Invest your money in d 390 and buy some top quality riding gear instead of waiting for ninja 400, which produces almost same torque and power like d 390.

well the duke 390 is superb road machine.. you can literally do what not with this bike.. i love every single time i open throttle. i haven felt bored at all. every single time i open throttle i really love it, brings a smile on my face.
it all depends what the bike is gonna be used for. day to day city use i dont recommend if there is bumper to bumper traffic, you will start hating the bike itself. barely you can shift to 3rd gear in that case!
not that people dont ride. but you will start to feel irritated with radiator sound & the harshness & that unbearable heat being diverted all over your legs. if your gonna use it for normal traffic use & highways, 390 is an awesome machine.
those brakes! damn they give me so much of confidence!!
the coolant gettin mixed with engine oil, TFT issues, Headlight issues are some that are born with the bike & considering the warranty given you will not have to spend much.

Domi is like duke's youngest small brother.. vibrations are something that you need to live with. every bike vibrates given its not a 20L-25L bike.
benellis are a pain to ride in city.. lowest torque. you have to always work the throttle to keep the bike moving, but that sound! yea! it doesn come close to 600i but at least it doesnt sound like a Rickshaw.. its a pure symphony!
but i still feel 390 is a superb machine given what if offers on the table.
                      unlike the Kawasaki, Benellis!

Before buying a bike make sure you also peek into service costs as well. Kwackers no doubt makes pretty good bikes however even if you will be able to afford the bike the service cost is something that will constantly keep pissing you off. Mind it the service charge for Kawasaki 300 is 1200 per hour. This is just the labour. Good luck if something goes Kaput in the bike and is not covered under warranty. Hence Kwacker and KTMs are not in same league. One is in premium segment other is in not so premium. KTM comes with niggles but I am sure that most of these would be fixed under warranty since the warranty goes all the way to 30K kms. So make a informed decision since Kawasaki and Benneli's comes under premium svc costs while KTMs are in a different league all together.

PS : I am that unlucky soul who is facing the coolant disappearing issue. It is yet to be resolved.

Yes service and spare costs are definitely one of the things on my mind. Decided to wait some more months before taking the plunge🙂. Sorry to hear about the coolant leak issue on your ride. Hope it gets fixed by KTM very soon. Have you checked where exactly is the coolant going? Is it mixing with the engine oil or is getting evaporated due to some reasons. Isn't this a manufacturing defect (a major one) that should be fixed by replacing the bike or atleast the engine? I believe anything other than engine oil in the engine compartment is a disaster. Hope I don't hear similar issues in the upcoming batches..

I also hope it gets fixed soon. I am not sure whether it is getting mixed with engine oil because i cannot see visible traces of coolant neither milky formation in my engine oil. I have never seen bike getting replaced. For sure this is manufacturing defect however svc center needs to figure which part is causing this issue. Yes it is a disaster. It cannot evaporate definitely. Not sure. Will keep you guys updated on the issue.
