Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Hi _the_petrolhead. I am also facing coolant vanishing issue. Seems like many of us are facing this issue. SVC changed my water pump seal as well. The issue was not rectified. My svc manager also told that 'robots in the assembly line had not applied the engine seal correctly'. they opened the engine below the head and applied that liquid paste. Is that what they did to you as well ? Is there any change in noise from the engine after the repair ? For me i am getting tik tik noise from engine after the replacement.Originally posted by _the_petrolhead View Post4.Coolant Leak-The WORST Thing that has happened to me!..noticed dry reservoir at just first 450kms...refilled...again dropped after 150kms...gave the bike for service..they were studiying on my bike...took them 2 weeks to figure out the leak...they changed the water pump seal first, still issue persisted..then changed the Impeller seal & was finally solved!..all tjis time the coolant was mixing with engine oil!..Damn you KTM...By this time(2 & a half weeks) i had made an owners club for all india 2017 duke 390 owners..and learnt from another member that he too had the same issue & his service centre manager told that 'the robots in the assembly line had not applied the engine seal correctly which caused a batch of bikes to be like this"...What the actual F#*!

Well yes, this bike is riddled with a lot of issues. The coolant vanishing being the worst issue. The list goes on and on. This bike is back to 2013 era where they had most number of issues. Whatever slight change has been done in this that part is riddled with issue. Issue list goes on like this.Originally posted by _the_petrolhead View PostHey bro!..Congrats on getting the bike!

Hey all!
I'm new here..should have gone through this thread before getting the bike though.
Had enough issues with my bike to a point where i was mentally stressed out & was thinking to sell it off!..yeah guys...it was a very very disappointing ownership experience.Problems i have faced:
1.TFT condensation-Got it replaced, no changes whatsoever, lost those kms!..Got an update from another member that newly modified TFT's will roll out JAN 2018 and everybidy with the issue currently will get a replacement under warranty
2.Oil FIlter leak..Duh..just after 10 days of delivery!..the screws holding them had some issue
3.Headlamp fogging/Vibration-have asked for replacement..still pending
4.Coolant Leak-The WORST Thing that has happened to me!..noticed dry reservoir at just first 450kms...refilled...again dropped after 150kms...gave the bike for service..they were studiying on my bike...took them 2 weeks to figure out the leak...they changed the water pump seal first, still issue persisted..then changed the Impeller seal & was finally solved!..all tjis time the coolant was mixing with engine oil!..Damn you KTM...By this time(2 & a half weeks) i had made an owners club for all india 2017 duke 390 owners..and learnt from another member that he too had the same issue & his service centre manager told that 'the robots in the assembly line had not applied the engine seal correctly which caused a batch of bikes to be like this"...What the actual F#*!
5.Premature clutch wear-It happened when i gave my bike for first service & the service guys had adjusted the free play according to their wish which resulted in being the bike being ridden on half clutch.I rode like that without any such idea & i was experiencing clutch slipping after acclerating past 5k rpm...eventually it worsened & one fine day when i was riding back from another district(90kms from home)on the highway i gave a shot & the bike revved a lot but didnt catch up speed!..couldnt go above 50kmph!..was stuck like that & rode for about 70kms...and burnt my clutch!
Since clutch was not covered under warranty, i had to pay 4k for the replacement assembly which i had nothing to do.All because of the inexperienced service guys.Me & my dad had many talks with the ASM regarding each issue & the replies were just lame...infact we were planning to file a case in the consumer court as i was really fed up of these issues popping up one after the other!..I had high hopes for this bike & it was hard convincing my parents to get this bike as we all know what all a Duke is being compared to..Synonym of Death..BS
Any ways now the only thing i'm facing is a minor clutch slip when i revv the engine hard(slips between 7k-8krpms for a second or two) and that kind of scares me!..Dont what to do & i 've to get it checked again..also i've to get the headlamp replaced.
5months of ownership,5 Varieties of Issues...what a package!
1. Headlight Vibration - Minor
2. Noise from Brakes - Not sure minor or major based on what are the consequences over a period of time.
3. Coolant vanishing issue - Major Major issue
4. Headlight, TFT, Tail light all fogs up - Result of Cheap Quality - Minor as long as bike is running
5. ECU failure - Minor. A restart would clear this issue.
6. TFT goes blank while riding - Minor. A restart would clear this issue.
7. Software issues
There are a lot of issues. For those who are considering a niggle free bike wait for another year to get Duke 390. At least some issue will be rectified for sure. Definitely this bike at this price cannot come without issues considering the cheap components being used. For those of you who just can take all this and do not care much about their bike can take this bike. For those who are thinking a car like ownership experience sorry this might not be the right bike. From the inexperience svc to the quality issues this bike is just not the right bike for a niggle free ownership.Hero Honda Karizma -> RE Thunderbird 350 -> Duke 390 (current bike)

Switch off the Bluetooth and forget about connecting your mobile to the bike till we get a new update. You won't face any software related issue at all. Like Speedo going blank or restarting, ecu failure etc etcOriginally posted by _the_petrolhead View PostHey bro!..Congrats on getting the bike!

@_the_petrolhead, in all probability, unfortunately you might have gotten the ugly duckling of the lot, a lemon. I'd suggest you to report your issue to KTM/Bajaj customer care and try to get in touch with their regional sales manager. KTM does take complains very seriously; raise the issue, drop your points to them and next course of action you're going to take. Hey all!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

B7ACKTHORN - Yes KTM takes those email seriously. What they do is they call up the SVC manager and pressurize him to correct the issue. All of them including regional sales manager asks to get the bike to svc. Thats all. As long as we have the patience to get the bike to svc the issue may be resolved one by one. There is nothing much one can do more than this. All one can get is a heavily repaired bike for all these issues by KTM SVC which can never give a factory fit.Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View Post@_the_petrolhead, in all probability, unfortunately you might have gotten the ugly duckling of the lot, a lemon. Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
I am currently facing one problem. I hear weird click sound when I turn on the kill switch. I hear this sound during console electronic boot up. It is more like ECU boot up sound. Is it is normal. Yesterday I got rpm raised to 10000 and losen clutch through clutch wire. Also I am not from racing background hence unaware of rev matching and downshift stuffs. It would be highly appreciated if someone can tell me the appropriate way to learn that.Last edited by appushri; 11-22-2017, 05:11 PM.

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
It's normal nothing to worry. Infact in silent place when your engine is off and kill switch is off try to twist the trottle Even a bit, with your ears close to the right side of the engine. You can hear the ride by wire working. I.e it keeps waiting for a few secs for the trottle input and goes back to standby mode again if no input is receivedOriginally posted by appushri View PostI am currently facing one problem. If that sound is some whirring sound, like a motor is spinning, then you don't need to worry, it's the fuel pump being primed. That's important for it to do and completely normal. Also, you shouldn't start your bike while that sound is coming.Originally posted by appushri View PostI am currently facing one problem. I hear weird click sound when I turn on the kill switch. Hey, revv matching and engine braking etc are not something only racers use. Pro riders also use these in day to day conditions and it is good to learn and apply it.
Watch some YouTube videos, you would learn it better from them.
The only way to learn is to practice and practice.Vrooming Soul..!!

Thanks. But I never heard such noise before. It started coming since yesterday. Yes, this sound comes right side beneath the front seat. do you know what this is all about.Originally posted by abhiiceman View PostIt's normal nothing to worry. Fyi - I hear this sound when I switch on the kill switch and shut it down. Not while riding or starting the engine.Last edited by appushri; 11-22-2017, 05:23 PM.

The fuel pump (i.e the noise which you heard when switched off the kill switch) will be working even when engine is running but the engine noise will over shadow that mild noise hence you won't hear. You might have not observed it before hence you only noticed it yesterday.Originally posted by appushri View PostThanks. But I never heard such noise before. It started coming since yesterday.
