Yes this bolt needs to be secured properly. Its directly connected to the gearbox casing. It leaks engine oil if not tightened properly.Originally posted by ksuresh92 View PostToday after a hard ride, while parking the bike I saw some traces of engine oil kind of stuff from the bottom bolt of the chain sprocket cover.
It was not too much but seems like an oil leak from engine. Does this bolt leak oil ? If so what can be done for that
It was dark so I couldn't click a pic... Attaching an image from Google for understanding.
Thanks in advance

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Enjoying the bike so far. Have done close to 100 kms. Some impressions :
1. Much more comfortable than a sports bike. Am enjoying aimlessly pottering around.
2. Its a breeze in city so far. Likely due to thin traffic due to festive season.
3. It has mild vibes that I like. Its new engine so don't want to lug it. But hard to make out when it is protesting due to vibes and its sound character.
4. Having some difficulty in finding sweet spot for sports riding. Having upper body relaxed is easy but holding bike with lower body is a bit challenge for now. Heel plates seem to be smaller than r15 so keeping your toes on pegs does not work as well. I think its a matter of time.
Overall enjoying the adventure. Intend to do some weekly checkups myself regularly to keep it maintained. But owners manual is very limited. Yamaha manuals are small technician crash course in comparison. Also wiring under seat is shockingly bad.

Also
5. Breaks are progressive and powerful. Not pin sharp as r15 but benefit is you don't crash into handlebars as hard as that bike.
6. Enginewise there definitely a power band like old 390. But it has been brought down the rev range it seems. So most of its horses can be used in city itself at lower speeds. On older 390 you had to be doing very unsafe speeds even in 2nd gear to get kick in pants feel.
7. Tires are harder compound than r15 v1 stock rubber. But seem more reliable. Is not bothered by potholes as much.
Will post more after more riding.

If my memory serves me correct, it was you who asked a similar type of question a while or so back, and you did post the bolt sizes too, am I right?Originally posted by ksuresh92 View PostToday after a hard ride, while parking the bike I saw some traces of engine oil kind of stuff from the bottom bolt of the chain sprocket cover.

Nevertheless, yes, Suresh, the 390 has a sprocket bolt that will leak oil if it is not torqued properly, usually in case of loose bolt or a stripped thread. As Chirag mentioned, that bolt directly slides inside the gearbox case, so the leak. Tighten it a wee bit and observe if it leaks. If it leaks again, either your bolt or the thread at the casing is stripped.
For now, torque it a wee bit, observe and keep your observations posted.
Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.
THE END

I have tightened it a bit. I didn't feel the screw has moved. Does the screw get loosen up because of the vibrations ?

apply Loctite 243 Threadlocker for loose bolts and tight them. This solves the problem of loose bolts with vibey motorOriginally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostThe vibes does loosen the bolts to an extent, a vibey motor in the end.

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Hi Guys,
Anybody know the exact on road price of duke 390 2018 in Bangalore.
I visited the showroom on the weekend and the dealer guy told me the price is 315950, which seems to be on the higher side, even if I include the handling charges of 1000 rs.
Can anybody throw some light on this issue. From Zigwheels and Bikedekho I am getting quotes of 3,13,435 Rs.

Ask them the breakup of the cost. Check the insurance price which I am sure will be on the highest side. Also note : insurance price keeps increasing year on year.Hero Honda Karizma -> RE Thunderbird 350 -> Duke 390 (current bike)

Showroom: KTM BTM, Bengaluru
Pic Taken Date: 20/09/2018
Here is the break-up-
1) Ex showroom price = Rs.2,42,835
2) Road tax(18% tax on Ex-showroom+11% Cess on tax amount) - 18% Tax on 2,42,835 = 43,710.3, 11% Cess on 43,710.3 = 4,808.133, Sub-total = Rs.48,518 + Rs.530(Smart card charges approx) = Rs.49,045
3) Handling Charges = Rs.1,000
4) 5 years Insurance non-zero Depreciation(only 1st year is Comprehensive, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th are all only 3rd party) = Rs.20,555
Grand Total = Rs.3,13,435

Guys one more thing. Might be a stupid question.
Do they take you to the storage place where there will be many Duke 390s and you can choose any one of them?
Or its like now the showroom guys only allocate the bike for you.
I am asking this I was able to do this with my Apache RTR 180 eight years back.

I hope they allow it now also.Last edited by sujithbvm; 10-24-2018, 12:28 AM.

When I bought it, showroom person was ready to let me select. They had only one bike in showroom. Others were in warehouse 10 km away.Originally posted by sujithbvm View Post

But i felt showroom piece was ok, revved freely and was manufactured last month only. So went with it.

Hmm. Guess i will too check the VIN number and check the date of manufacture and go with the pieces in the showroom itself, if they don't allow me to choose the bike in the warehouse.Originally posted by VaibhavPisal View PostWhen I bought it, showroom person was ready to let me select.
