Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Both are different in so many ways. Suggest waiting for two more weeks and see what the Apache offers, if it comes with ABS as standard and is as VFM as the 390, you can take your call. Though its just the launch and the wait will be more till early reviews/deliveries start.Originally posted by h_bharti View PostHi Friends
Need your views on buying a new Duke 390 now as TVS Apache 310 launched date is announced.
Shall I wait for couple of weeks of just go for 390

It is better to go with already established Duke 390 than to opt for a newbie like Apache 310. U many face more problems than the existing Duke.Originally posted by dhanushdp View PostBoth are different in so many ways. Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Hello Xbhpians,
My bike has munched about 5000 KMS in about 6 months time. ( 40% highway and 60% city )
Coming to the issue I am facing since 3-4 months.
Bike stalls while riding. Engine stops running, as though someone switched on the Engine Kill Switch.Although there were no warnings(Temperature, Oil pressure etc) in the display, bike stalls.
It has happened multiple times especially while riding in city traffic.
Has any one experienced this issue ? If yes, please let me know what might have caused this?
ThanksLast edited by Long rider; 11-28-2017, 05:06 PM.

Stalling issues were frequent in the older 390s (I've a 2013 one)Originally posted by Long rider View PostHello Xbhpians,

If you fill regular fuel, try filling premium fuel for a couple of tanks.
If its still remains, go for a Throttle Body Cleaning.
Could you confirm in what gears this happens?

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
So Alas my coolant vanishing issue is resolved. For all those who are facing coolant vanishing issue do not neglect it. Because it is mixing with engine oil. This is a manufacturing defect for at least some batches. In Bangalore alone i have seen 5 or 6 bikes with this same issue. God knows how many unknown cases are there. Really wonder how can they mess up with such a major major thing.
So the issue is with the gasket inside the engine below the head. In Bangalore, Indiranagar SVC has repaired multiple bikes with this issue and hence one can go to them to get this issue sorted since now they are the pros to resolve this. The below image shows the coolant block inside the engine.

I have filled premium fuel only once in the entire ownership of 6 months. Now, I will switch to premium fuel for couple of tanks and observe.
I can confirm that stalling occurs either in 2nd or 3rd gear, not sure while up-shifting or downshifting.
It has never happened while cruising on the highway and I have experienced this about 5-6 times only while commuting in city traffic.

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Hi all,
I am new to xbhp and this is my first post. I was using a RE CL 350 for the past one year(bought my by dad) and i am planning to get a duke 390 by next week. I had a few talks with KTM dealer from pondicherry and he quoted an on road price of 249k with the following breakups. In which around 4k was for mandatory fittings. I haven't heard of this mandatory fittings quoted by any other dealer, and upon asking he vaguely answered its for the helmet which they have to provide, number plate charges etc. if anyone's from pondicherry can you please confirm this ? And others, did you guys were charged a similar amount when you had brought your bike.
PS: No i am not buying this on fake address or illegally.

Ok, my mechanic found where it lies this part that fell off.Originally posted by scapeghost View PostMy bike is six months old now and the same part fell off in the first month of ownership. It is marked 'BKT TUBE DRAIN JG 11 3816 01'. Notice the '01' at the end instead of the '02' as on yours. I am yet to check with the service guys about reinstalling it but it hasn't hampered anything that I know of. My Odo is 5k+ BTW I have seen/heard at least a couple of more owners talk about this part falling off.
Also, Its great to see the service manual, is it possible for you to post it here?
It is inside the highlighted area, so you must unscrew and check there.
The part exists on both sides.

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
I believe that could be due to some dirt in throttle body, thanks to our high quality Fuel.Originally posted by Long rider View PostThanks Niku for the advice. Appreciate it.

In my case, using premium fuel once or twice a month made the issue disappear.
Hope you get it sorted out.. Shouldn't be anything bigPegasus - 2011* - Hero Honda Karizma ZMR

thanks, will get that fixed. Right now I got bigger problems though. Engine oil leak - engine is to be opened and all gaskets to be replaced :-(Originally posted by slink21 View PostOk, my mechanic found where it lies this part that fell off.

Vinod, appreciate your follow up. Just that, if you could explain in a little more detail what exactly was the prognosis and what were the parts changed, it would be mighty helpful for this elusive issue that has plagued this motorcycle. In your picture we can't see yet more detailedly what and where the block was. All I could see was an arrow pointed a cavity. If you can perhaps throw in some more pics with the parts replaced, would be doubly helpful.Originally posted by vinodpakath View PostSo Alas my coolant vanishing issue is resolved. The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Yes Definitely. So let me start from the beginning what all i went through in last 2 months of this issue. So soon after 1st service i was facing coolant vanishing issue. The coolant was reducing from max to min mark from the reservoir every 400 - 500 km. I used to check my engine oil from the small glass however could not infer that coolant was mixing with engine oil since the oil seemed like used engine oil (a slight golden color). I went to SVC and following was done in every visit.
1. First Visit - They changed my radiator. I could see a portion which was wet always hence i had my doubts on radiator. SVC took advantage of this situation and changed my radiator and made me pay for it without any diagnosis. They did not even check if coolant is mixing with engine oil.
I went for a ride for around 400 kms and again the coolant was again at min and decided to visit SVC again.
2. Second Visit - Mechanic told me that there was some issue with pressure cap due to dirt trapped. He has a device to check the pressure and inferred that the pressure was low and he has corrected that and now the issue should be fixed.
I went for a 400 km ride again and issue remains the same.
3. Before my third visit i made a complaint to KTM. Third Visit - This time I was taken up seriously. They checked the engine oil. Found traces of coolant. They replaced my water pump seals and gave back my bike.
As usual I took out my bike for a test ride and inferred that issue remains as it is.
4. Fourth Visit - I went to the SVC and gave my bike. They said they will have to check the head gasket and said that it will take some time. I left my bike in SVC. While they were working on my bike i thought let me do a uninformed visit to SVC. The next thing that I see my opened up engine. I was very angry since they told me that issue is only with head gasket and I see not just the head opened but engine below the head also opened up. On further inquiry they told me that they inspected head gasket and found it to be fine. The picture which I have posted has a marked area through which coolant flows through the side walls of engine. There is a liquid sealant which separates the coolant and engine block. And that sealant was not pasted properly by Robots in Factory was the explanation given to me by everyone including Karnataka ASM. I got my bike back after 4 days of work in SVC.
I went for a long ride after this. Around 700 km this time and looks stable now. What I got along with the fix was an additional tick tick sound which I am suspecting due to valve clearance issue. A shim adjustment / replacement will resolve this according to my knowledge hence not really worried now. Will take my bike to SVC to get my shim adjusted. But the actual coolant issue is fixed finallyyyyy.Hero Honda Karizma -> RE Thunderbird 350 -> Duke 390 (current bike)

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Fantastic! So, the passage leak is so mild enough that it doesn't get noticed early and kudos to the Indiranagar team to find out that this was the culprit. These same issues have been plagued in other threads of RC 390. Do keep your ride observations closely jotted down here, so that we are assured that the issue is resolved once and for all. Wish you luck!Originally posted by vinodpakath View Post4. Fourth Visit - I went to the SVC and gave my bike. They said they will have to check the head gasket and said that it will take some time.
