Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
It's not completely related to bike weight, any bike at speeds can be unstable, I have seen enfields crashing because of these road humps. These humps could also cause tank slapperOriginally posted by razzer View Post

Does the bike tend to "take off" due to the light weight when going fast? Landing upright may be a big issue and will most likely result in a spill. My FZ being very light at front would always tend to fly on bumps and little unstable after landing on high speeds, but R15 not so much being much front heavier.Originally posted by Chandan92 View PostIt's not completely related to bike weight, any bike at speeds can be unstable, I have seen enfields crashing because of these road humps. I believe its not completely due to bike weight but their weight distribution.
*Just 30 minutes ago while I was coming back from my office and its raining hard here, a Duke overtook me in flying speeds. I was at 50 so he must probably be at 90+. I couldn't help thinking the same incident, too much trust on ABS or whatever.

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Hi guys, a couple of updates:
- Bike is now at 950km on odo, first service this weekend for sure.
- I had my eye on the coolant as I felt the level was dropping, the other day I couldn't see any at all! Got it topped up at SVC, now need to keep an eye on it again.
- Front brake makes metallic rubbing sounds while riding, not sure if it's dust/dirt, or if sintered pads make these sounds.
- I changed the engine oil at 500km on odo to Motul 3000 4T 15W50, bike immediately felt smoother, much more peppy and also a deeper louder exhaust note. Found lots of metal particles in the magnetic oil strainer. This bike does need a good run-in.
- Had to get the chain adjusted at around 450km on odo for slack. Just used gear oil for lubing as I couldn't wash the bike in these random rains.
- Bike is giving me a steady average of 25kmpl in mixed city and highway riding (40% city 60% highway). I'm very sure it'll give 28-32kmpl on tours and that makes me real happy.
Attached some pics for you guys as well. Enjoy! Hope your 390s are doing well.

No matter the bike, if you are sitting on the saddle when you come across an unexpected bump ull always loose control. So standing on the pegs for any bumps on the road gives better control over the bike. I usually stand on the pegs if I come across any bump or pothole no matter the speed let it be 20kmph or 100kmph.Originally posted by razzer View PostOwing to the light weight of the bike (compared to, say, a Dominar or an Enfield) is there a tendency of the bike to "fly" in the air or get flung when at reasonably high speed (like 80-90kmph) over a bump or hump.

I think it's the same sound I'm hearing. The sound from the front brakes. Metallic ghiss-ghiss-ghiss kinda sound right?Originally posted by oldman View Post2. Have ridden it only 3 times since it got delivered, but each time feel that there is a metal sound coming constantly when you ride, but each time the bike was put to rest and driven again that metallic sound disappeared, not sure but felt it,A good rider has balance, judgment, and good timing. Hi neoakshay, so two things, 1. The sound has more or less vanished now 2. When it is there is a sound of rotating metal, maybe from the megnet side or the clutch, no idea, but fortunately much less now, no it's not the brake noiseOriginally posted by neoakshay View PostI think it's the same sound I'm hearing. Hi Guys,
I have noticed that the radiator fan pushes the hot air only to the left leg during stand still traffic.. Wer as the the right side seems to be fine.
Is it the way the radiator fans works. ?or is it oriented to something else.. ?Last edited by nikkswest; 06-15-2017, 11:25 AM.

Of course I know him personally and they do a good job except for washing and polishing which I get it done near my house.. I was looking for a 3rd party service center.. Coz some times they do a great job.. Like Purushuttam Garage at Battrahalli who recently serviced my NS 200 and it's a brilliant job doneOriginally posted by msuthar25 View PostAuto Service, Banashakari.

razzer - Not sure what you currently ride however the new 2017 D390 is a safe bet hands down.. That's the reason i am picking it up will get the delivery today or tomorrowOriginally posted by razzer View PostDoes the 2017 Duke 390 come with steel braided brake lines? I took a test ride yesterday - the bike had done just 62kms on the odo. The seating position is less cramped than the previous iteration - I found it to be more comfortable. Heating does happen, but that is probably because it was an absolutely new bike. There were also vibes at the lower end of the rev range. Pulling power is fantastic (me coming from Royal Enfield bike). Planning to book one after the monsoons.Ride HARD but Ride SAFE

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
so far on this thread i have not noticed any major problems. is new duke really that much more reliable than old one?
sure there are some lcd problems and software related issues. also vibrations and heating are part of ktm ownership experience i think.
but no breaking airboxes or gaskets. or fast wearing chains. or any big mechanical problems so far that might leave you stranded in middle of ride. or am i missing something?

Your concerns are very genuine
The new 2017 KTM Duke 390 is way more refined than the out going model and I mean it's less raw in terms of power.. This is kinda of fully baked with all the additional goodies like ride by wire, TFT screen and gorgeous led headlamp
However having said all this it is still a big single cylinder with long stroke so its viby and thanks to the high compression ratio it heats up fair bit in bumper to bumper traffic
There are software bugs and am sure ktm will fix it and only improve this going forward
All said and done this is the most value for money performance bike in India today since it is made locally.. Nothing else can come close given the price to performance ratio.
Hope this helps [emoji5]Ride HARD but Ride SAFE

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Hi all,
I finished my D390's 1st service last day. Covered 450km's on the prior Sunday in a stretch heading Mcity-Pondy-Chidambaram-Pondy-ECR-Guindy-Mcity.
The ride was so awesome. There was no bad things to talk about actually, except the close calls with 2 holy Cows on ECR.
The flickering issue of headlamp was present through out, but the sc guy has told me he will fix it on the first service time.
I gave it for service and they changed the Headlamp assy. & flashed the software again. Finished the service and got my Sonic(d390) back last day.
No more issues left. All cool for rides now.
Ready to explore some new routes this weekend. Thinking which way to go and keeping in mind, no more 6500rpm/105kmph barrirers

Happy riding everyone..Last edited by rejitee; 06-16-2017, 06:40 PM.Orange Regards..

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
sorry my friend.. it is NOT a long stroke.Originally posted by Javed Basheer View PostHowever having said all this it is still a big single cylinder with long stroke so its viby
it is in fact a short stroke (or oversquare) i.e. big bore & short stroke.. i.e. wider bore but shorter length(stroke). which is why it revs to the moon.
on the other hand, the bullet is a long stroke.. hence the 'thumper'/torquey characteristics as lower rpms and doesn't rev much.
----consecutive posts auto-merged-----
the 390's since 2016 were rid of their small niggles and the 2017 model is more refined thanks to the new exhaust and the ride by wire. the rest like the console/headlights are just cosmetic changes and do have some bugs as users have reported and not major issues.. hopefully they'll be fixed for good soon.Originally posted by VaibhavPisal View Postso far on this thread i have not noticed any major problems. is new duke really that much more reliable than old one?

the exhaust alone makes a significant difference in the perception of refinement.
