  • Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences

I just decided on Sunday to upgrade from my 2013-model Duke 200 to the 2017 Duke 390. The process so far is going so smoothly that I'm suspecting it's a dream.

Monday: Left details on Bikewale, requested callback from Khivraj motors. But couldn't contain my excitement, called up Langford KTM myself. Lady on the other end was very polite and helpful, said that we could discuss financing options if I came down to the showroom in person.
Tuesday: Morning, Khivraj motors called up. Said that they could put me in touch with Langford KTM. Ten minutes later, Langford KTM called up again and said the same thing as the previous day. I set up an appointment for Sunday morning.
Wednesday: Cousin offered to buy the D200 off me. While we took it to a mechanic nearby to get it spruced up, I called up Langford KTM but got no response because it was a holiday

Today morning, Ganesh from Langford KTM called up after seeing my missed call from the previous day. When I told him I'm looking for a 390, he said that they were getting a fresh batch of 390s today. Then he said that if I could make a payment of 1k today, they would reserve a bike for me so I can make down payment (around 65k) on Sunday comfortably. When I asked how long delivery would take, he said I could collect tomorrow if I completed the down payment today. A few minutes later, I sent the 1k, arranged for the down payment amount and am now sitting in office fighting the urge to go there and complete the rest of the formalities. Controlling my excitement was never so tough!

I'll reply with updates later on. Really, really looking forward to living with this lovely and scary beast. Life isn't gonna be the same any more! :P

    Cheers everyone!

    Update:

Kept on counting down the seconds till 5.30. Finally got into a cab and went to the KTM showroom just before 6. The dude named Ganesh was waiting for me there, and surprise - he and I went to the same school, and had even seen each other in the school auto a few times! Small world eh?
I told him I would be going for financing - 6.75% interest. Worked out to a down payment of ~61k and 12-month EMI of ~21k. This done, I provided the documents (payslips, bank a/c statements, PAN card, Aadhar, and what felt like hundreds of signatures. Had to give 5 photos and 2 cancelled cheque leaves, but didn't have them so promised to get them tomorrow when taking delivery)
Completed payment, ogled my new bike (it was sitting in the showroom, just have to clear some registration and verification formalities tomorrow before I get the keys) and headed back home. The whole time, I had a big, moronic grin plastered all over my face. Pretty sure it won't be going away any time soon.

Seems like my bike has lost its crazy acceleration, it has lost its bite. It doesn't feel like riding a 390 from a week or so. Bike has just been ridden for 2950kms.

It's like I need to rev it past 7k for the power but before there was lot of torque lower down and I never had to rev it past 7k to feel the power [emoji17]. Now it's like a d250 you have to rev it for 7k for the power[emoji20]

Is it because i have gotten used to the power or the bike has really lost its torque. If it's the latter than Itll be that old nightmare back again as I had the same issue in my previous bike 220 i.e it didn't had the power of a normal 220. God forbid I don't have to go through this again.

Remove the seats and check the condition of air filter. Clean it, if it’s dirty.

            Performance should be back.
If air filter is good, you need to visit Service center.

If KTM says bike is good, then you may have gotten used to it’s power.

I have showed it my friends who ride old 390 and confirmed engine oil looks okay. even SVC folks confirmed that engine oil looks good and moreover there is no white smoke. I have been visiting SVC center multiple times and those folks just try to come with easiest solution. 1st visit they made me change my radiator. Yes they changed the radiator without checking the issue thoroughly. The reason given was there was external damage to my fins. Even i could see the damage hence i did not argue further. The 2nd time they said pressure cap has some dirt in it and the pressure was not maintained right and they have now resolved it. However, even after all this the issue remains as it is. The coolant is still reducing. So now i suspect only improper bled system. Could you please let me know what is the process to rectify improperly bled system ? and how can we confirm if it is improperly bled ?

Does anybody know a good KTM SVC Center Mechanic in Bangalore who we can trust ? I have been running behind my coolant issue and following up with Indiranagar SVC center however i feel they have been making excuses and do not dig issues deeper. They say they fixed however the issue remains as it is. Any leads on this would help me !

Update on my coolant disappearing issue :- Visited SVC for the third time. In Parallel I raised a complaint in KTM website. There was quick action. Got a call from KTM Indiranagar manager asking me to drop the bike ASAP. Dropped the bike next day. This time they have changed the water pump oil seals. Changed the engine oil and oil filter. At least this is what they claim. Since this issue has been prolonging i could not spare a day to go to svc and stand next to bike while all this was done. I am skeptical about oil filter and oil change. They said there was slight mixing of coolant in engine oil. I will test ride this weekend and update whether it is fixed or no.

I have also felt the same thing, the day I first rode my bike it was different in the 2nd gear at certain rpm, it used to go forward giving a lot of adrenaline rush in me, but now it seem like its lost. No clue what happened, I might need to test ride another duke 390 if its the same with the other bikes. I used to get really confused when reviewers say that the bike starts to show its power after reaching certain rpm and I first hand experience this with my bike and now its gone.

The reviews of the 2017 duke 390 says that the power of the bike is felt after reaching 4k rpm but I don't feel anything.

This is a known issue that the meter resets after you pick or receive a call, only solution is not to connect your phone with it you have to live with the issue till a new software update comes.

                        Hi friends,

Day 3 days back gave my 2017 duke 390 for 2nd service.

After the service, Immediately felt clutch feel changed completely and even the throttle input felt like its on the old duke 390 without RidebyWire. it was so rough.

Today noticed the engine oil is in some dark brown/chocolate color. Its not clear/transparent for 4 days new oil change.

Previously 1st gear to 2nd gear used to be rough.. now even 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th also rough and. all these mentioned gear cchanges giving tak sound. evn pillion could hear it.

Please enlighten me. is there any problem with oil or its normal???

They have used motul 7100. The one which came when the bike was new is probably the bajaj oil which is 'transparent'/golden in color. Are you sure at the first service they replaced it with motul ? The motul is red in color.
Can you check the coolant level ? Has it dropped ? From the picture I can't make out if the oil is red or has a greyish appearance (if its greyish it means that you have coolant mixing in to the oil caused either due to a head gasket leak or a water pump seal failure)

Get the clutch free play, chain adjustment and the gear lever adjustment checked/adjusted to spec.

Hi folks, i accidentally checked my engine oil level today. There seems to be no oil at all to my shock. Is there any issue or is it like that only. I have seen people mentioning that the default bajaj engine engine oil is very light in color, but i think it would be visible. The bike does not indicate low oil pressure or anything at all. I have clocked around 500 km till now. What should i do? Please suggest
