ask your svc to give it in writing that they will not accept the oil that you bring . they are just scaring you into spending money by buying oil at the svc.
whenever you take your bike back from service, make a remark in the job card (like , "used XXX oil that i bought myself but svc claims warranty will be void")
So I'd say stick to the 7100.. 300v might be an issue (maybe not for bike but for warranty purposes). 7100 is a very good oil and more than sufficient for the ktm's. the purpose of the 300v is totally different, though that doesn't stop some folks from using it (we humans fall for a lot of fancy stuff and fancy marketing without understanding the technicalities)
      S1d,

suprisingly on the new 390's, 7100 triggers the low oil pressure light when hot and idling. A friend who switched to 300V doesn't face this. And i'm talking about ALL 2017 390's.

you have one additional thing that might help you in some situations.. and it's always better to have a little more safety net. tailgating a bus and expecting abs to do miracles is stupidity. in most cases it's the riders' stupidity that surpasses the equipment safety resulting in fatal accidents.
shit happens and happens all the time.. so having an extra bit of safety might in some cases mean the difference between a fall and a save or maybe even life and death.

        .
abs is a safety system with limitations. just like riding gear. some ppl think with abs they can do whatever they want. like touring at 130 kmph when brakes wont stop you from those speeds quick enough. ppl need to understand abs doesnt mean they can compromise on safe speeds.

a lot of ppl even on this forum. nothkng wrong in pointing out its limitations. even moto gp riders with those rider aids crash a lot of times.

every time someone successfully applies brakes, they say its cause of abs.

        look at this video

he says he was saved cause of abs. i think non abs bike would ve done same in this situation.

            Hi Guys,

I finally got delivery of my Duke 390 from Indiranagar KTM, Bangalore on June 2nd. Bike was displaying 1km on ODO.
When I first rode off I though they'd delivered a Duke 250 to me, that's how smooth and silent the engine felt

Been riding whenever I got an opportunity and the bike is now at 300km on ODO. Here are some pics for your viewing pleasure:

In mixed city and highway riding the bike returned 25kmpl, checked by full tank to full tank method so it's accurate.
Console showed 31.8kmpl max when I was cruising on the highway varying speeds and rpm between 70-100kmph.

The bike came with the updated v39 software, but my headlight still went off for 2 secs on three occassions in the last 2 days.
Also got the ECU failure error once. I'm not too worried, the bike is mechanically strong!

Thoroughly enjoying the ride as of now, although don't feel like using it in the city at all.

seriously !? i doubt it has anything to do with the oil brand, provided it is of the correct grade. ktm should pay you a bug bounty i think
first time i am hearing about such a behavior (and i haven't ridden a new 390 extensively bar for a short test ride nor spoken to different owners about it)
keep us posted on this issue..
what oil comes filled from the factory ? (i don't think its the 7100). the bike i test rode, had its fan running (was being test ridden on a hot summer day by multiple folks) and i did not notice any oil pressure warning.

btw, i am not saying the 300v is 'bad' per se.. it was known to cause minor leaks and also this oil is not designed for regular everyday use (i.e. it might not have the capability to keep up with longer drain intervals or maintain engine cleanliness.. due to the different additive package/oil chemistry)

what you and me said is essentially the same. but definitely abs is an added layer of safety wrt brakes.
and that video, maybe the abs saved him (preventing the wheels from locking up and skidding).. we can't sit here and contemplate what happened. the rider is the better judge of it.

and again as you said, it's also up-to the riders skill and braking technique.. just because the bike has an abs one shouldn't expect it to do miracles. it's just a aid and some experienced bikers might be able to brake just as well without abs in certain situations.

here is another video showing you what abs can do to help:

During the warranty period, all service centers of any make, recommend to use their own proprietary-sourced oil or oil that is officially supplied to the showroom. For a common man, what goes in isn't a big deal, but for a few enlightened ones, what goes in does matter. Usuallly, Bajaj and KTM officially repel any oil supplied by the owner. 300V or any other oil for that matter can be used. But, in case your engine happen to go through some trouble, the SVC would happily defer the case as owner negligence and write off the warranty. KTM recommends 7100 which is perfectly suited for the 390, they don't bother if the 7100 is self purchased or bought from them.

Congratulations enjoy all the Kim's of being on saddle, agree with you, the bike is very smooth, and ride like a dream, the torque is just mind blowing, had a peculiar feeling or rather two feelings, my bike has also done 340 Kim's, felt the following, 1. The bike sounds almost like two bikes, so there is a separate sound from the engine block and a separate one from the silencer, very strange but true

                              2. Have ridden it only 3 times since it got delivered, but each time feel that there is a metal sound coming constantly when you ride, but each time the bike was put to rest and driven again that metallic sound disappeared, not sure but felt it,

Got one added from the current 390's accessories list, imo it looked weird and didnt provide much wind resistance either, there's a gap between the headlight and the shield placement if you notice it, unlike the older model where the shield would sit on the headlight mount. Removed it after a week, now waiting to replace it with a proper one meant for the new model, which might take some time.
