ok guys, I did a trip recently, after about some 230 kms it started to blip low fuel. got scared, no choice, went on for about another 30 kms or so, tanked up, the tank took about 10.19 liters.. so we have 13.5 liters.. 1.5 is supposedly the reserve, how is it playing out for the rest of you?? when are you getting low fuel & how much is the tank gulping before its full??

what I heard from others is that you need to keep the app running in the background & then do the pairing.. sorry man, I have an iphone that works just fine.. no app for me.. maybe someone else who has the first hand experience can help..

I did the filling and observed in last 3-4 fillings, highest I filled was 10.6 litres that was 30 - 40 Kms after low fuel warning. It gulps 8-9 litres if you fill as soon as warning comes up. I have have also observed that the fuel bar suddenly turns red and start flashing couple of Kms post warning. Not sure about the reserve capacity.

TIA
Hello mate,
Yes i meant about the 2 sec cutoff issue only. Yes I got my bike after service.Along with it, they changed the headlight Assy. and flashed the software(same DV39). Now headlight issue is solved. I didn't go for any top speed drag yet.

forget the concept of 'reserve'.
even on the older duke, as soon as it hits the low fuel warning, there is still approx 2~2.5 litres of fuel left.
so probably its a bit more on the new 390.
your FE seems to be pretty decent.. and now you know how far you can stretch out on long rides.

yep.. FE was about 26-27.. recorded using the trip meter of Sarvajit ... my trip meter failed to record some KMS in between... did some approx and average and all.... worst is 26.. best would be 28... can't wait for the first service & do a tank to tank test.. I hope that the trip meter works this time at-least lol

• Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences

I have been riding Hero Honda Karizma, the original 2005 model, since last 13 years. I wanted to upgrade but I was looking for what Karizma was in terms of technology back in the days (Yes 223 CC, digital meters were a big thing in 2005!) and my heart called out for Duke 390. (Honestly, I did not see any other bikes worthy of upgrade as my Karizma is still as smooth as she ever was.)

So why did I zeroed in on KTM Duke 390:
1. Technology - Bike is at least 2 steps ahead of future competition and would not get outdated easily.
2. Pillion - Wanted something which is comfortable enough for a few 100kms weekend tours with pillion.
3. Power - Karizma was falling short in power for pulling with a pillion and luggage. With Duke’s power, refinement and low weight, I though it would be easy in traffic with pillion and also with luggage on tours. It doesn’t struggle a bit.

So after lot of thinking and research…I booked the bike last Thursday and taken delivery yesterday from Pune Wakdewadi KTM. I went with this showroom as they always have a fresh lot due to heavy sales. Checked the software version, it was the latest, did some preliminary checks as well. I got to choose my bike out of a lot which was unloaded from the factor truck. That’s a great feeling!

When I look at them side by side, it feels like a older mature sister teaching a younger dynamic and talented one to stay humble. Just a thought.

Here are some of my initial observations:
1. Bike is awesome! In every possible sense.
2. I am 5 feet 7. So I was tip toeing a bit.
3. Pillion (my wife) found the seat comfortable. This was a BIG relief!
4. I was able to ride with the pillion with more control and ease in traffic as compared to Karizma. It’s obviously due to refined power delivery of the bike.
5. Rear brake is useless as of now. Absolutely no stopping power.
6. Heat! Yes, as many pointed out, bike heats a lot in traffic, but no complaints as it’s her character.
7. I found the position of indicator switch and passing light switch a bit uncomfortable to operate. The 4 button layout for operating the TFT is perfect but on the go, you don’t use it that often as you do the indicator and passing light. I had to reach for it, it was not intuitive.
8. Bike immediately connected to my android phone after I downloaded the KTM My Ride app. TFT shows the caller name and number.
9. People stare endlessly, trying to understand what they are seeing!

Few questions:
1. Bikes idles between 1800 to 2000 rpm. Is this normal?
2. HOW SHOULD I BREAK IN? Initial 30 km was in heavy traffic (I had no option!) I saw few videos on you tube suggesting to change the oil after 30 kms and put a set mineral oil till 1000km. What’s the best way if there is any?

I was following the thread from the beginning and want to thank everyone for all the valuable suggestions. You guys are awesome!

2. 390 not comes with mineral oil, no need to change it. You can ride normally without pushing it hard.
