Just completed my first big ride of 3500 kms ride (Mumbai to Kerala and back) on my Duke. Only one problem I faced during my trip. Whenever I apply brake after riding continuously for 1 hour or so, the brake lever would give me pulsating feedback. It was like its jolting very abruptly. Due to this, I was always worried about stopping properly. Is there something wrong?

If you had applied the brake suddenly then it would be the ABS acting. Nothing to work about. Just the ABS doing its job. Just remember not to panic and release the brake because of this feedback.Originally posted by vinay21987 View PostJust completed my first big ride of 3500 kms ride (Mumbai to Kerala and back) on my Duke. Well it was not a panic braking. Applying a normal braking too gave the same feedback. I also checked tyre pressure and it was as company had recommended it.Originally posted by nikhn View PostIf you had applied the brake suddenly then it would be the ABS acting. Nothing to work about. Found this video explaining the improvements on 2018 model. It shows the plate also. But i doubt about the claim for the radiator fan. It says that the radiator fan is bigger...m not sure of that..

ABS works when the wheel is about to lock. May be you applied brake on sand or your brakes have too much bite.Originally posted by vinay21987 View PostWell it was not a panic braking. Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
could be the abs or maybe your rotor is warped (a slight bend/out of shape mostly caused due to heat or external impact). not easily visible to the naked eye, but a warped rotor will 'push' the lever back against you whenever you apply the brake and it get very uncomfortable and impossible to use the brakes properly.Originally posted by vinay21987 View PostJust completed my first big ride of 3500 kms ride (Mumbai to Kerala and back) on my Duke. are you sure this happens only after riding for 1 hr, because a warped rotor will pulse the lever irrespective of how long you've driven. do you drive with your hand on the brake lever and maybe involuntarily 'riding' the brakes.
ride another 390 to see if it's the same.. also get the brakes inspected.

Thanks for the input. I was on a ride and experienced it after an hour of riding. Early morning breaking was smooth without any jolting feedback. I do not keep my hands on brake levers all the time. Will try your suggestion.Originally posted by s1d View Postcould be the abs or maybe your rotor is warped (a slight bend/out of shape mostly caused due to heat or external impact). not easily visible to the naked eye, but a warped rotor will 'push' the lever back against you whenever you apply the brake and it get very uncomfortable and impossible to use the brakes properly.

Payment and delivery
Dealer from whom I booked bike expects me to pay in full 4 5 days prior to delivery. Says he wants to get some PDI done after I pay. Is it normal.
When should I pay reasonably? Delivery day, a day before delivery or a week before delivery?

When I bought bike, I paid full in advance. At the time of car, paid 10% in advance.
make sure the showroom where you are paying is famous and exist for a long time.
I gave them account payee cheque with company name in favor and kept xerox copy as ref with me duly signed and stamped by them. Also ask for receipt.

Re: Payment and delivery
It is not Normal. Pay on the day you take the bike. Take their account number in advance and add it in your bank account payee list.Originally posted by rathores View PostDealer from whom I booked bike expects me to pay in full 4 5 days prior to delivery. Tell them that you have amount ready and you are fine with online transfer immediately or you are fine with DD's. Transfer the amount and take the bike on the same day.
There was a dealer in Mumbai, who took money from buyers and ran out of country. No one could do anything. Take a loan, if you doubt them. Bank will take responsibility to some extent, i think.

Heard there's a software update for the TFT, present on the 2018 Dukes which supposedly fixes the random rebooting issues, anyone know more about this and if service centers are performing this update on older bikes?
For all you Hip Hop Fans out there, check out our tracks at

Earlier bikes have already received this software update. Check few pages back, you will see many quoting the same. KTM rolled out an update to fix this issue.Originally posted by mzone View PostHeard there's a software update for the TFT, present on the 2018 Dukes which supposedly fixes the random rebooting issues, anyone know more about this and if service centers are performing this update on older bikes?

Thank you. I am getting tired of behaviour of this dealer.Originally posted by kris123456 View PostIt is not Normal. Pay on the day you take the bike. Take their account number in advance and add it in your bank account payee list.

Checked numbers on quotation, turns out he is charging me 5k extra for vehicle registration which was included under Insurance+road Tax.
Do all dealers do that? Will I have to do registration on my own if I want to save this 'registration charge'?

Thanks for sharing your experience. I tend to be paranoid when dealing with any big business.Originally posted by bikerrider View PostIt is normal to pay in advance.

Re: Payment and delivery
Never pay the dealer before your bike arrives at his stockyard and its allotted to you. I paid for my bike only after seeing the bike parked in front of the showroom and after confirming with the owner of the showroom that this bike is allotted to me.Originally posted by rathores View PostThank you. Also you need to do your own pdi and then pay. Duke is comparatively a fast moving product ....its not a Superbike for which he needs a guarantee (besides that is why you pay a booking amount anyway).
Registration charge is kind of an unspoken evil in our corrupt country (can't do much about it unless you are someone with contacts). If he is hiding charges tell him to give you the proper split up. Compare from multiple dealers and then book with the one who is giving you the best quote and delivery time.
Insurance can also be taken for much cheaper from online by yourself. If he is charging 5000 for registration he is probably over charging you on the insurance premium too.

I have decided to go rogue. I will check with other dealers if any of them are charging less than 2.5k for registration otherwise, I will get after market insurance and pay road tax and get registration done myself. Any advice you can give is appreciated. started a new thread for the same. will share the link when thread is up.
