Hey guys.. I did a long-ish ride recently from Hyderabad to Nagpur and back on my Apache 180. I noticed a minor oil leak from the cylinder head area, so I got it looked after from TVS ASS in Nagpur. On my way back, while cruising at 100-110, I felt a sudden loss of power (as if the engine was being starved of petrol) and the engine stalled [emoji33]. I cranked it twice, it didn't start. Upon inspection, I noticed this massive oil leak from the cylinder head area (same place as before). I thought that I had ceased the engine by depriving it of engine oil. But then I checked the oil level, it looked fine. Thankfully, after cooling her down for some time, the bike started. I kept her below 100kmph for the remaining 400km ride back, which was uneventful.
Now, I showed it to an ASS in Hyderabad ([emoji3]), they handed me a bill of 2200 bucks, saying that they had to 'thuru' some part of the head.

If you see the bill, they've charged me 450 bucks for labour, and a separate 750 for the truing job. They're saying that they got the truing done from a separate workshop, and the 450 bucks is for taking everything apart and re-assembling. Will the experts here tell me, is 450 for labour justified or did I get taken for a ride? Also, why did the bike stall on my way back? Any theories?
Quite similar to what Christo said above.
How are you "cruising" at such speeds on an Apache? Doesn't the RPM/Gear ratio for this bike cause the engine to be in an overload?
And also, how did you bear the vibrations?

Actualy, the oil leaking wont cause any problem. I had the Oil leaking for first 10K kms. After that, the packing was changed and it stopped. Cruising at 100 kmph wont cause any problem even(I have done it on no of occasions in long rides). It seems, what Balgi said is correct. I am not a tech person, some expert can help. But sadly, not many experts are active in this thread. Really miss the olden days...

        So General questions -
        1) What's the highest speed you have reached on the RTR? How does it feel, especially with the stock tyres?
        2) If you do go long distance touring, whats your stable speed and how are you handling the vibrations?
        3) Any long term reviews of the new Remora tyres?

            Quite the right adjectives there!
My first choice was definitely black but this white has grown over me

Guys i have a query. Today morning riding at 110 kmph at 6k rpm, bike started making a sound similar to that of a fan belt of car.(That screeching noise).
Below 6k rpm no such noise was heard. Bike started making the noise again when the rpm was near or above 6k. Noise was coming from rear of the bike near the tire.
Can anyone explain what maybe wrong?

                1) I've reached 131 (speedo indicated), I've not gone to such speeds on any tyre other than tvs tyres :P So i cannot make a comparison. (I've changed the front tyre to michelin pilot sporty though)
                here's the pic :P

                2) I have done a few short rides of <250km and constantly maintained 90-110 kmph without any problem (with breaks in between). The only effect vibrations will have on you is that your fingers will feel numb for a few minutes after the ride. Nothing serious
                3) I have the old tvs tyres and not the remora. So please do tell me how the Remora tyres perform in the long run

                  Abhishek - 131! wow
and why did you change only the fronts? And the handlebar vibrations, I have bought a good set of gloves so lets see !

and Remora seems awesome if you ask me, but yet to drive on wet tarmac and go above 50-60 anyway.

I changed only front tyre as most of the braking is done by the front brake and hence a better tyre will prevent locking of the front tyre.
Also, comparatively, a rear tyre skid/lock is easier to control and correct than a front tyre skid/lock during panic braking, hence only the front tyre change.

                      Your speedo must be trashed.

Correction, bike started making the noise at 6k rpm and above. 110 was the top that i managed. Didn't go beyond because of the noise.

Finally, after a few months of riding with an overflowing carb, got it fixed today at the svc.
As expected, the float was the problem. The float was not moving freely (getting stuck at a particular level) which led to carb getting flooded with petrol and subsequent vehicle stalling at idle and petrol being expelled through the drain pipe.
It took 5 visits to the svc (including 1 service) for the mech to realise that its a problem with the float and not the drain screw inspite of me telling him that it is most probably the float/float needle which is malfunctioning. The mech was hell bent on tightening the drain screw with all his might to stop the expulsion of petrol, he wasn't focussing on the problem, instead, he was treating the symptom. This inspite of other mechs around suggesting him to check the float.
Anyway, amidst all this, got the carb cleaned and exhaust tappet cover replaced, for free :P
Also, rear tvs tyres have started to show first signs of wear at 18000km with the central groove almost disappearing. The front Michelin though still has the central grooves intact even after 15000km. :O

Guys, i am hemnath from chennai, and i need your inputs on my RTR 160. MY problem is with the RTR tail lamp doesnt work when i press the rear brake, but works fine when the front brake was applied. I was due for the service today, and i have given the bike to PRABHA TVS, CHENNAI, SVC and reported the problem, i got a call after 2 hours, from the mechanic stating that the tail lamp got fused and it needs to be changed, as the mechanic has checked the wiring. He said the amount is rs 1300, but i refused to change. i am not sure how the tail lamp would have got fused when it works with the front brake and not with rear brake.

If tail lamp is fused then it will not work at all. It has to be a problem in the wiring , get it checked again.
Also, if your bike is in warranty period then the new tail lamp (if it is changed) should be free of cost.
