What's the price of this oil, Krish?

Now I have done ~2100Kms on ODO and my ride is due for 2nd service. Can I switch to a SS oil now or stick with Mineral oil?

The price is Rs.300 and for now you should stick with mineral oil as the engine is new,Elf Gold and Shell are good mineral oils.Switch to SS during the 3rd service

I am not an expert here.Just getting to learn a lot from each one's experience here thats it.
Fully synthetic oils/Semi synthetic oils is recommended after your engine has opened fully when the components mate properly and set in,which is usually after 5-6k kms.SS oils are a blend of Mineral+Synthetic oils.FS oils will last longer, offer better protection, hold up in extreme temperatures, and provide longer oil change intervals.Every oil has a certain duration till which it maintains it's lubricating, cleaning and cooling properties. As time goes by the oil starts to thin due to the heat generated by the engine and it's additives get polluted. Hence your bike starts to feel rough and you need to go for an oil change.Fully synthetic oil can maintain these 'good' properties for a longer period of time.

NO.You should wait for atleast 5-6k kms and then switch to any good SS/FS oil.

First of all, +1 to the bold part.

Drifty, I surely second to everything you said and yes thats obviously correct too as it is coming from you
But I think, what he asked was why do we have to wait for 10-12K kms. before switching to FS oils, not the advantages of FS/SS oils . Isn't it Nishanth? Anyways, if I am right then here is the answer.
As Drifty already mentioned, SS and FS oils stick to the walls better, providing better lubrication to the mating parts and hence less wear and tear. Now if we start using FS oils right from the beginning, the engine parts won't get scratched up/mate correctly. Thats what we call in local language "piston rawa nahi hoga theek se". Thats why we use mineral oils initially so as to let the moving parts' walls can chip-out the metal better. Also, the other reason you can guess yourself is that initially there's lot of chipped metal in the oil inside the circulating engine oil. So, we need to change the engine oil more frequently to get rid of them. Hence, using the oils with lesser drainage period.

                  • But Garry, the TVS Tru4 oil used by SVC's in free services is mentioned as semi synthetic. Then how will our RTR engine's parts mate properly??

Thats the biggest thing where they throw plain shit! The oil mentioned everywhere(like our manuals) is TRU4, not TRU4 Premium. TRU4 is a 20w40 Mineral Oil and TRU4 Premiun is 10w30 SS oil. This is what the SVC guys never understand and still say that the recommended grade for RTR is 10w30 "bhaiya kyunki TVS ka tel dus-tees (10-30) mein aata hai".

I've banged my head so hard to make them understand this thing, but all waste.

Read the awesome KTM 200 review by xBhp. Here are some lines from that review, which-incidentally-applies very much to our ride-Apache 180

On a serious note I feel that the bike can be an amazing tourer, its light and fast and so much fun around corners. PLUS the ground clearance is a massive 165mm, 15m more than the Karizma! Getting Lehd on this would never be the same.
                                (Apache has 180mm Ground clearance)
