Hi, Coming from a karizma and going towards an RE, i hope you do understand, in depth that both these motorbikes are worlds apart (karizma and RE).Can help you make a choice better if we understand what thought went into deciding for an RE.And on which points did your friends advise you Against a TBTS.

Right now I have nothing but my foot. Saving up money to buy myself one in the future. So just do what you think, let no one make you doubt your decision (and you).
      Cheers.

Before I Bought Zmr Thunderbird Was My First Choice At That Time Waiting Time Was Around 6-7 Months Odd So I Opted For Zmr. After Owning A Zmr I Am Not Into Bikes Which I Consider To Be In Same Category In Terms Of Build Quality Such As Cbr R15 Duke Etc Hence Leaning Towards RE. Two Of My Friends Who Owns Classic 350 And Standard 500 Said You Will Get Bored After A For A Year Or So Because Of The Riding Style And Is Difficult For City Rides Most Of My Rides Will Be In City.

Hey guys need some help in choosing my first bike. I'm having TB350 in mind but after listening through the reviews like engine oil leak problem and high maintenance I'm little bit confused. So please TB350 owners share your experience. I'm looking for bike that shouldn't be pain for maintenance.

Go for Yamaha or Honda. Royal Enfield won't do

Engine leaks don't happen these days..it used to happen in old engines.maintenance is normal if you care about bikes.if riding at ease is your goal..go for a Thunderbird. All Royal Enfield's share the same thing.

If thats the case, then your wait may have very well been worthwhile because the current Gen RE bikes are getting better and better. If TBTS is what you like then go for it!

I have one for a year now and I too bought it after much speculation and wait and i haven't faced any problems. (Touch wood!)

Do check other bikes' ownership threads, you might find more options to choose from.

Choice of model is solely your choice mate. Some features such as posture, disc brakes, etc. will only change. Other than that the overall performance of all motors
(of respective segments) is one and the same.

Thunderbird is a great machine. Quite adept at handling most terrains that you can throw at it. The maintenance required is just the usual, provided you take good care of it. Have been owning a TB 500 for close to 2.5 years and for 30K+ kms. Each machine's experience would be different though, and it will heavily depend on how you treat it.

Having said that, if maintenance is too big a concern, it would be better if you consider other options. Any RE will require some attention, a tad more than the others. Its the passion which drives it. All the best!

The basic thing that you must consider is the quality of parts used. The parts are mostly dirt cheap which is good but also very dodgy in quality which is why they fail so often. I would pay a premium and would not want poor quality control ruin my riding experience. I would request you to ditch the thought of buying any RE for that matter. This bike will ditch you when you need it the most. Mind you regular maintenance is always required but that won't help. Btw I own a RE Thunderbird and it works well, gets me to places.

I have almost dropped the idea of buying RE.

                          Hi friends,

Am new to this forum and this is my first post.

my TBTS 350 is less than a month old, after first service there is a minimal engine oil leakage from the front top bolt head on the right side of the engine cover with oil strains in the furrow for the bolt. The oil level is up to the brim with no demarcation and is more than the maximum level.

Took it to the ASC, the mechanic measured the engine oil quantity it was 2ltrs 300ml added 200ml more, saying 2.5ltrs should be put. The oil level window now same as before. Gave reasons such as the oil level will fluctuate, not an issue if it's more than the maximum level. ( read somewhere there will be pressure on the gear if oil is in excess, my gear shift is smooth though, only downshifting, is a bit hard)

Friends how to check the correct level of engine oil ? and Is it alright if the oil level is more than the maximum level ? What to do if the leak persists? Please enlighten me.

You can always measure and pour. 100-200 ml here there won't have any effect. You cannot do anything about the leaks.

The most you can do is to check whether the engine oil drain bolts are tight..
