If you're so confident with your mech in Lonavla, I'll take my baby to him if the Wakadewadi guys fail. And yes, my daily commuting doesn't even need a bike as my work place is just a leap away from my residence... So, no worries on that. One more thing.. If I could leave my bike with an idiot who took 4 months just to screw her up, I can leave her for 15 days with your expert in Lonavla on good faith... I'll keep you posted buddy, after consulting the Wakadewadi HH guys...

Thanks and ton for quick reply... Just that, I love this bike too much...just too much... My friends were laughing their ass of at me when I purchased 2001 CBZ with loads of mechanical work on her... But you know it, I was smiling inside...
My pleasure, friend! I can never see a Classic bite the dust, ever!

Different brake pad and assembly from Xtreme and Classic might have caused the problem. I feel it did not fit in comfortably, or forced to fit in by the previous owner and other mechanics you have consulted.

Anyways, please check at Wakdewadi and let me know!

      hi

can anyone tell me what these tubes are for (attached below). They are attached to the air-filter box.

So want to know if i go ahead and fit the K & N filter to the carb directly and remove the airfilter box completely, will it effect the engine in any way?

I am assuming that these tubes suck the air into the engine via the air filter box. So if i remove the air filter box completely then all the dust, dirt and grim will get sucked into the engine in the absence of an airfilter, eating away the engine parts slowly.

Am i correct from the above?

Well buddy... even I'm thinking of fitting a K&N air filter to my Classic... I'm waiting for some expert's reply on your query so I can also make use of the same advice...hehehe...

          • Parts for a CBZ classic

            Hi,
I own a CBZ classic (2002). I bought it used a couple of years ago, and have had fun riding it. It accelerates effortlessly and is a breeze to drive in traffic.
Of late however, I'm suffering from oil leaks around the engine head and the acceleration had dropped considerably as well. I believe I need to change the head gaskets. Should anything else be changed?
According to my neighbourhood mechanic (very reliable fellow), the CBZ's engine is alright, but he will need to change the clutch plate, as that is the cause of the low performance.
I am also changing the tyres, are the MRF Zapper FS for the front and Zapper Q for the rear good choices?
Also, since I want a grippier tyre, should I install a 110/90 instead of the 100/90 ? Will it make a huge difference?

The chain/sprocket set seems to be wearing out as well, so (I posted this in the sprockets thread, but perhaps someone might have some inputs here) would the chain/sprocket set of the CBZ-Xtreme be a direct fit? I would probably stand to lose a bit of acceleration, but would it be worth it?

by low performance i assume poor acceleration. Even i had the same problem a couple of months ago. But in my case the entire case had gone bad. If you trust your mechanic then it will be a good idea to get your clutch plates changed. Get OEM parts as local ones wear out very early but it also depends upon your riding habit hence results can change with OEM as well.

I read somewhere that replacing clutch springs with more stiffer ones improve power transmission. Don't know much about it may be the senior members would be able to help you in this regard.

for leaking head just replace the the gasket with a new one. As an extra while installing the new gasket just add a layer of liquid gasket on the head walls as this will seal off any gaps between the gasket and head wall.

Wide tyres will give good grip but will reduce acceleration. better to stick with stock size for best of both worlds (looks & performance).

Change the chain set as this is your final drive transmitting the power from the engine to your rear tyre. Healty chain set will improve performance. Again try to stick with stock and OEM parts only. I recently changed my chain set 14/46T costed around Rs.850 (OEM)

Thanks much for the reply, I'll ensure that we get original parts for the same. The mechanic is very reliable, he never overquotes, and has always tried to save me money.

I had no idea about that, perhaps someone could provide more inputs.

My mechanic had a look at the chain sprocket set and said its good for at least another 4-5K kms - the chain needs to be tightened. But yes, I do feel I need better cruising speed. The engine seems stressed at 80 or so, there would be no question of steady travelling at 100 without a hitch. What do other CBZ owners feel here? Is the default 14/46T good for cruising at this speed?
According to the speedometer, I'm doing 50kph at around 4K RPM and 60ish at 4.5K RPM. Is that correct for the CBZ? What is the maximum that you've gone to? What are safe rev limits for this engine?

I checked the very same today morning while riding to office. My girl is doing 50 at 4k and 57-59 at 4.5 k. So I think we're in the same line here.

I remember about 4 or 5 yrs back i had serviced my bike from HH svc in gurgaon and i had some problems with pickup and i told the same to the service guy and also told him that if everything goes as per my expectations i will give him something extra.

i do not know what adjustment the service person had made but the pickup was awesome, gear shifts smooth and the bike was running superrrr smooth at 60 kmph at 4k rpm . I had never experienced such performance even i bought the bike. That was the first and last time i saw my bike running that smooth and after that it went back to the same old way.

Unfortunately that was the last time i saw that mechanic hence couldnt ask what exactly he did to the bike.

                        Hi Sunil,

I have a Yamaha fz 16 and these air tubes are part of the Air induction system.

If i am not wrong, this system is will aid in effective burning of exhaust gases by supplying air.

Make sure that the pipes only are supplying to the exhaust port and beyond and that there's no connection to the intake manifold.

I have a conical air filter attached to the carb directly, but havent removed the air filter box.

May be he did some magic and then vanished in thin air after taking that "something extra" you mentioned. Hahaha... Just kidding!! Anyway, 60/4K is amazing. Really amazing!!! But I think that was the initial performance every two wheeler gives for 1-2 days just after a proper servicing. Then, as you said, it comes back to normal. Even I feel the same every time after I take my bike back from servicing. Everything from gear shifts, clutch lever, brakes and handling will give you a feeling you're riding a brand new bike. I'm sure I don't need to tell you all this. You're already a pro. But still, 60/4K is...damn..!!!

Yes that performance only lasted for a week i guess not more. But after n number of services i have done so far that kind of performance never showed even for a single day.

Hehehe.. Please find out and post it here, buddy. Even I'm waiting for something on his. I'm very keen on installing a K&N on my Classic. Thinking of R-1100 combined with an Iridium tip spark plug.
