I second that. CBZ to impulse/discover is definitely not a good idea. What I'd suggest is to give CBZ one more chance. She'll prove herself, I'm sure of it. As I mentioned earlier, I was facing identical problems, but I'm still riding the same CBZ, never want to ditch her because these problems are curable.

I also have two minds all the time guys.. But I might be back to college for mba pretty soon.. And no bugger of a mechanic will even turn the wheel properly to see what the problem is.. I lost upto 10 grand and no progress.. Hence discover for mileage for a students pocket..

discover sounds like a good one if you are looking at budget and mileage with a bit of performance. go for the discover 150!
they are pretty damn reliable (experience from riding a friends discover 135 that has done over 1lakh km in 3yrs with very minimal maintenance)
sad to hear you had to spend 10k for such an issue. and i hope the engine is in good condition and you never ran with very low oil (ive seen friends who have no clue on oil changes)
and ecil is too far off if you are looking to come to yousufguda (and i hope you don't intend to leave your bike at the mech without your presence) << i'd never do that!!
let me know if you plan to come down, maybe we can look around together and i dont mind sitting with the mech (i prefer doing this than hanging around a coffee day or pub) and ofcourse my reward would be i'd get to ride a cbz!!

Okay.. Will do it.. But i would do it in april(got my mat results yesterday and have a lot to do).. I always stay with the bike while it gets services.. 10k was lost in installments (lol), not at once.. Yeah I always make it a point to tell the guys to keep an eye on the oil..

            • Super Sprinters....no update for weeks now... Where are you all? What is happening? I hope you're all now equipped with workshop manual I uploaded here. Were you all able to make any restoration/upgrades to your CBZ with its help?

              • Guys, I'm not sure whether I'm asking a stupid question. Does changing the cam-shaft affect firing of the two-wheeler? I'm asking this because authentic firing of my Classic is lost ever since its cam-shaft was replaced. I re-checked the air-filter and confirmed it is of CBZ itself. But the firing kinda resembles Apache's and I want the old firing back at any cost. Any idea what is wrong?

Yes, changing the camshaft changes the firing of bike. Which camshaft did you use. Did you not use OE cbz camshaft. Also check the tappets because if they will be tight then same problem of firing will occur.

i had similar instance once in fading memories.. i believe its a short spark plug.. change the spark plug and also get the AFR tuned..
still seems to be the Spark plug..

at the minimum, get the following done :
                        1. Petrol tank and fuel filter/petcock cleaned
                        2. carb removed and cleaned throughly
                        3. air filter and spark plug replaced (when was the last time you cleaned the filter or replaced it ?)

i have new spark plug fitted, and yes fine tuning of AFR helped a bit. but still its not revving free..

Damn, I never expected changing camshaft will mess with firing. But yeah, I had given her in an authorized (and the largest HH center in Pune - Singh Motorcycles, Bund Garden). So they messing up with camshaft is highly unlikely. But yes, tappets...!!! Tappets are tight it seems. Because that particular sound is rising from engine and the service center themselves told me not to mess with tappets, or I'll be messing with average. So, I let go the tappet sound. But no...!! Right now heading to the SVC and gonna clear the tappet thing first... Thanks, mate..!!! :-)

Yes, guys.. It worked to an extend, I must say. I adjusted the tappet on Saturday itself and vehicle is now returning somewhat clear firing. I'm sure it will take some time till I get the original firing back. But yes, tappet played its role. There's still a feeble sound from engine if I listen very carefully, which I'm sure is of tappet again, for which I'll be approaching the mech shortly. Meanwhile, please let me know how to reduce/nullify that vibration rising from fuel tank when I hit 70-80. Tank vibrates badly, producing sound. I checked the bolt at the rear end of the tank and it is pretty tight. Did the bushes in the front end of the tank wear out? Gotta check...
