    1. Would old unicorn's rear rim directly fit the cbz? I doubt it. I ask because the store keeper said it would and pushed me to buy it.

    2. Is it true that the cbz's engine has to be completely taken off the bike to do a valve or gasket replacement job?

bro is your AFR screw gone bust or the IDLE screw.. IDLE screw can be accessed through the hole over the carb cover. the screw at bottom is for air-fuel mixture..
    confirm which one..

the rim width of old unicorn and that of CBZ is diffrent. you can try old ambition rims..

mouting and un-mounting is no big deal. my cbr engine gets down once a while for shim checkup and spark plug inspection though never got to do that on the CBZ. touch wood.
the same work can be done with the engine mounted but easy access and time saving is benefit of getting it down

The AFR is cool. It has to be the idle. Help validate. The AFR is on the side and I was able to work on it. The idle screw was missing. How could it be accessed from top mate?

Hello all, I am from Chennai. I am a proud owner of 2003 model CBZ Classic and planning to restore it to stock condition. I am missing some plastic parts like the TPFCs and tail pannels. The rims, spokes and engine compartment are rusted. I want to repaint them and chrome plate the rims. I have learnt the cost from this thread but they are pretty old posts.

                  1) what will be the cost currently for completely repainting CBZ and chrome platting the rims. My local mechanic is demanding Rs.8500 for painting alone. He says chrome plating is done in kilos and need Rs.4500 for that.

                  2) I have ordered the plastic parts from SAFEXBIKES.COM
But after the payment, there is no response from them. Its been 5 days. Is any body aware of this website? Did i make a mistake??

Friend complete painting of the bike will cost u 5000 at the max including engine matt black.ur mechanic is bluffing u of sure. Its not a good idea to chrome plate rims as it will peel off within months ,rather u can do powder coating which will cost 1500 for 2 rims at max.but powder coating can not be done in chrome color, its done in full black, matt black, white ,orange, red etc.

plastic parts can be bought from a used bike market u can get it easily as u r from chennai and there are a lot of old market there.I recomend old plastic parts as it will be original and good quality plastic and as u need painting job to be done.regarding site these sites are not believable ones.wait for a week time and see it normally takes time bro.best of luck for ur restoration work and nice to see u guys taking initiation to maintain CBZ "A real legend". inform me for more help bro.as am a bike modifier and a mechanic too.

Thank you so much lichin. I will definitely keep you in loop with whatever i do.
I have asked my friends to enquire about the painting cost. They will revert in a day or two. And as u said, i'll wait for another week for the website store to deliver the parts.
Apart from painting, i also have to replace my tyres. They are the stock ones that came with the bike in 2003!!! Haven't changed it yet.
                        1) I am thinking, why not i go for a tubeless tyre? I know i have to change to alloy wheels then. Will it affect the stability of CBZ?

                        2) How much does a pair of this alloy wheels cost? And also the cost of two tubeless tyres? I guess all together it will cost around Rs.11,000.
                        3) OR... should i stick with the company recommended normal tyres?

Hi Meow good to know that you are bringing back the true legend into shape..... am also from chennai..... PM your number so that we can have a talk directly as i too have the same legend. Going for the alloys you can go with the setup of Karizma alloys and MRF Zapper tubeless as i have the same setup in my bike.

where ever you go for painting make sure you get it sanded well and primer coated and then gloss coated. dont go for local painters. rather ask mechanic to open parts take it to a good car paint booth. they might charge you more but you will have far better paint quality in the end

They will revert in a day or two. And as u said, i'll wait for another week for the website store to deliver the parts.

change or MRF else Dunlop Geo Cruisers. stock fit ones. does the job well..

these are local made alloys and wont have reliability of OEM alloys. rather opt of ZMA else cbz extreme alloys. i am sure xtreme alloys will be a direct fit.
these local alloys are heavy and unreliable and can affect stability at high speed

                              3) OR... should i stick with the company recommended normal tyres?

you can go for tubeless if you opt for alloys. no harm in that

mechanics don't have any idea of what to do specially for tyres unless he is an expert. go for stock size.hunt online for the best tyre and buy it from the shop.
