My ZMR has now emitting a metal sound from engine like tik tak tuk, not all the time but after a cold start, when ridden for some 10 km then noise subsides. Stop the bike, kill the engine and again start the engine, sound starts coming for few seconds, go off for few seconds and again on.It sounds like a diesel engine clatter. My mechanic says there is an issue with the crank shaft, timing chain and valvetrain.

Recently I rode in rain, the bike stopped as if there is no petrol. After many cranks it started again but hesitant to rev, I had to wring, wring and blip it many times to keep it moving. My mechanic advised to put a higher viscosity oil to contain the sound. I had added viscosity improver from Abro in the engine oil. I am using Motul 300V 10w40 full synthetic oil.

Now I had put it in peace and riding only if there is no other bike to ride. I just want to bring it to my main course again. The unbeatable long distance cruiser. Any suggestions!
Anything and everything can be solved. If it can't be then i am useless.

Give me details why when and how the sound started.

A video will help the matter.

It just a disease that needs proper diagnosis and then medicine and for that a good doctor is required.

And i am that doctor for your engine.

Thank you rreneav1987 for quoting me there!

As for the issue, i am pretty sure its the piston slap. The symptoms are ditto and if you carefully observe, you can feel the vibes through the handle bars as well, when the sound comes. Ive been using nulon for about 2years now iirc, huge thanks to sibun!
Its done the job pretty well, far better than my expectations. Had posted a month back saying the problem had vanished, but alas, its come back again. So still using nulon. Sometimes, even nulon doesn't help.

Solution is to let the bike idle for a minute MINIMUM during cold starts. The sound vanishes when the engine heats up. Else, like me, you can try using nulon.. A really great solution, but a temporary one. After a couple of years (2 in my case) you'll have to overhaul the engine as most of the parts would have been effected. I was waiting for my studies to end and get employed, as i wanted to service it in my salary. Lol! So the timing is perfect.
Immediately start using nulon. Down the road, time will let you decide when the engine needs work. Good luck!

Is there a way to clean horn button ? Or replacement is the only option ?

Open the switch-gear assy. Carefully open the internals and switches (take pics) and WD40 the whole thing.

Thank you very much for all for the support. Yes, there is vibrations in handlebar and especially in the footpegs. The vibrations are harsh in the pillion footrest too. Tomorrow I will take a video of that and present before auto gurus. Thank you once again.

Check chain slack and thoroughly clean + lube it.
Check for loose fairing bolts.
Double tape the fairing
If cam chain is worn , it will give vibrations
Use iftex/Adon with fuel . This should reduce vibes.

I have completely removed the fairing. I was very much annoyed by fairing vibrations.Click image for larger version

Recently got screeching sounds from my rear disc brakes. So much so that I stopped using my bike and took it to the SVC. Folks there said the pads are gone and the disc plate had gone as well. The rear disk plate has some lines engraved as seen in the pics.

This is surprising as I changed my factory fitted REAR disc pads @ 25000Kms. The FRONTdisc pads are good, even though those were changed @ 22000kms. My present reading is only 35000kms!!!

Shouldn't the front ones go first? Why was the disc plate damaged?

The present pads were all NISSIN from HH SVC, so I doubt there was any duplicate used. I need to pay 1300 for disc pads and 1800 for the disc plate it seems.

I am thinking of trying out a cheaper disc pad without changing the disc plate, just to see how it does. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

i hear an engine clatter kind of sound when i start the bike after a few hours. But the sound subsides in a matter of few minutes or one km. I don't feel any loss of power and i replace my engine oil in service center 3 months back. My bike has run 37k kms. I have a feeling that it is related to the oil. What do u guys think would be behind this problem.

Try changing the tensioner. I was getting some clatter noise which used to disappear after few minutes of cold start.

How much did the cam chain tensioner cost you?

I replaced only tensioner, not the cam chain. It was around 450 bucks.
