If no, time to get a new one. If yes, follow steps as mentioned:
    1. Dip it in half a bucket of water with 2 tsp detergent. (ariel/surf/tide etc)
    2. Agitate it slightly so that it gets soaked in the foam well.
    3. Leave for half an hour.
    4. Agitate it again.
    5. Rinse all the surf in running water. This has to be done properly, else pores would remain clogged.
    6. Let it dry in the sun (and not fan) - natural drying is recommended.
    7. Re-oil it with a regular motor oil/aerosol oil spray. Do not dip it in oil though. It should not be drowned in oil.
    8. Wrap it in a newspaper and squeeze it slightly to let the extra oil dip out. - @ashwinprakas, please guide us for point 7 and 8.

I'm unable to locate Ashwin's thread on cleaning his filter. Darn, I hope I didn't miss anything.

And please refer this DIY - http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/do-yours...-hd-video.html
Well, the steps are for a foam filter. But mine is a conical one. Dipping in oil is totally out of the equation.. Am puzzled as to how to go about it. The box says its a life-time filter...

I know. I asked you to refer to that DIY thread for getting a gist of the process.
Conical filters are only sprayed/evenly coated with a thin layer of oil/aerosol oil spray.

Ok, coming to my experiment with Shell Rimula. 90 kms done, gear shifts are smooth, as expected with a new oil. A ride over the weekend will test its real abilities.
But, I seem to have lost some pick up. Its 15w40 grade. Is it actually true or me being stupid? (It was on a 10w40 diet earlier)

For # 3, KTM is selling like hot cakes. Bajaj was never termed reliable n KTM unknown.
Bro, KTM is one of the biggest bike manufacturer in Europe & one of the oldest as a company too!, yeah though was a lil unknown to Indian market when it got launched.. but as I said, in such cases what is needed is "something mind blowing & at an extremely competitive price"; KTM has done just that only.. Duke as we all know is a tremendous bike for the young; so trendy yet sturdy in looks, something that sets it apart from the other bikes; with one of the best 200+ cc engines on Indian streets till date; an outright performer with 25 PS & still at a price tag of 1.3 lacs !

All I meant to say was this is the kind of stuff HMC needs to bring on the table.. It got to be highly aggressive particularly when it has lost some bite... If you see the sell of Duke was not a runaway first day first show hit... it has been gradual; while it sold a decent 8500 units in 2012, 2013 is now seeing a hefty rise in the demand; almost 35% increase in the first quarter..

& btw, Bajaj is too smart not to sell Duke under it's own brand name.. Instead Duke is intelligently sold under KTM brand & people buy believing in KTM ownership...

        My Bikes:
Yamaha RD (The one which taught me what riding is; Can never forget this one)
Bajaj Caliber (The one closest to my heart; I still have it after 15 yrs !)
Yamaha R15 V2.0 (The best I had; Ah it let me become the college hunk I once used to be :) )
Hero Honda Karizma ZMR (The bike for the family man in me; The practical one; The current one)

You are lucky to have smooth gear shifts...which oil was used before Rimula ? The Acceleration was reported to be better by both ZMA and ZMR users of R3X and R4.Engine heat reduction, better cold starts, less vibes at higher RPM,and better top end cruising were some of the other betterment told to me by other Rimula users....
Do share your experience after the weekend ride...

Sir, I was using Mobil1 10w40 FS until now. Loss of pick up may be my psychological feeling as well. I thought since the oil would be thicker when hot (compared to Mobil1), it would affect pick up.

Logically you are correct... but the compounds in the oil matter too.. and yup.. psychological feelings do mess around with us every time i used to find the Motul 15W50 great.. but ever since you said the bike will feel sluggish.. i started feeling the same.. but before that i never had that feeling thanks to you

You had used a Fully synthetic oil before, and now a Fully Mineral Oil...It is good to know that both oils are more or less the same in all aspect except acceleration....If you look at the Kinematic viscocity of R3X or R4 at 40 C , it will be close to the FS figure.....in other words these oils are the closest mineral oil ,you can get at mineral Price with near FS performance...
Do keep us posted with your observation....

I had planned to cut the chain cover from inside....

Actually; yesterday i feel the tyre is not moving freely....so take to the tyre shop ....the alignment was out and after correction it was fine...but he suggested to get chain cover cut from inside if in case this happen while riding will spoil the disc and tyre too...

Pls don't cut it. Get yourself a Yamaha Enticer's chain cover. Keep parts stock. Cutting it will let dirt/mud etc in and chain cover would be useless.

I think it better to have a cut instead of a open chain cover....

Cutting will cover 95% of chain ...but in enticer/half chain cover it will be a 100% open chain...

                        Please do as Divya says

But My suggestion would be not to remove the chain guard nor cut it.. the life of the chain will reduce and remember.. ZMR's dont come with O-ring chains.. and you will need to lubricate your chains at regular intervals.. else it will get dry and riding it dry will in turn reduce the life of the sprockets and the chain..

Correct me if I am wrong

Oh No.. You got it wrong.. its better to be either full open or full closed.. reason.. if its full open, you can easily clean the chain.. if its fully closed.. you don't have to worry about the mud or dust.. but if its 95% closed and 5% open, it will be difficult to clean your chain which in turn will spoil your bike's sprockets and chain..
