Hi guys, my stock tires are losing air in an abnormal rate these days. Yesterday, I had to travel a distance of 250 kms nonstop, from chengannur to vadakkancherry. 65% of the trip is highway NH47 which is great but the remaining is fully covered with pothholes. My pillion rider has a weight of around 90 and I weigh 70.

Before starting the trip, I filled petrol for 400 and from the same bunk, filled air, but it showed flat tire in the air filler LCD, and I had to press the fill flat tire button. Tire pressure for both tires were shown 20 first and then I filled the front tire with 29psi and rear with 34 psi. After the trip, again went to a petrol bunk to check air and front was showing 21 psi and rear 22 psi. Is it abnormal? I am not seeing any sort of punctures on the tire.
RVM is a good tool to see your buddys losing behind while racing :)

Out of both, one unit might be defective. Both the tyres cant have the same defect of loosing air at that rate rite? If this is your first experience of loosing air in both tyres then I bet one of the two air filling units is defective.
However considering a potholed road its highly rare that both tyres would have got a puncture. Wait for a day and check the air at a good bunk. If problem persists then might be puncture.
I have a feeling of the former being true. Defective unit.

Well, what I feel is, there could a slight bend on your alloy wheels as you mentioned potholes... even a slight gap between the tire and the alloy can cause this problem.. so what i would suggest you do is, take a bucket of water.. and pour the water along the side of both the tires and see whether air is escaping along the sides of the alloy wheels.. it is possible.. if that seems fine.. get the tires removed and put a coating on the inner of the alloy... like I said.. even a very small gap can cause the air to escape through...

After riding a Bullet CI for years, added a panther black ZMR on the 4th of May 2013. I must say this is a pretty capable ride.
However, riding a Bullet makes you prone to leakages it seems. They follow! My ZMR has an issue with the rear left GRS. There's some oil leakage.

Last Friday, I took it to the ASS for replacement and they agreed, only to be told an hour and a half later that the box supposed to contain the ZMR's shocker had a Splendor shocker inside. Subsequently, my order for a ZMR GRS was taken and marked with 3 stars and that I would be informed when it arrives.

Then there's this issue - After riding for around 4 kms, when downshifting while approaching a speed-breaker, things are smooth.......but when I upshift, even to the 2nd gear, there's this tak..tak..tak..tak sound as if the piston is giving way. Mechanically, this should happen when you upsfit to a high gear at ridiculously slow speeds. I don't know if fuel is the culprit or there's something with the clutch cable freeplay...or something else may be??

Done just 200 kms on the ZMR and my riding style is absolutley sane, and I am more cautious because this is the run-in period.

            Welcome to Zimmer family Raj!

Gear shifts will get smoother with time. Get the engine oil drained at 250 kms (before the 1st service). You can get this done at any private mech. Then you can ride for another 250 kms until your 1st free "authorized" service. Let them do it. They'll drain the oil again. This is only for your good.

Also. vary your rpms between 3k-5k in the run in period. Upshift after 3.5k to avoid knocking.

I'll keep your suggestion in mind. I get it now.....gearing funda of ZMR is different from Bullet CI. Glad that nothing else is wrong with my ride. As for the GRS, just praying that it gets replaced without any melodrama!

Welcome to the group... I was facing the same issue for last 1 to 1 and 1/2 months... I had to check air pressure every alternative day and still had a air loss of 15 points of even more... I always fill 38 for the rear tyre and every alternative day it went down to 22 or below.... Tried to solve the problem with hell lot of tyre makers but few days it worked and again back to same issue.. I am was facing this for last 6 months minimum... Initial it was 2-5 points lost pressure every 3-4 days but started increasing with days...

Thanks GOD got hold of PSD didn't loose a point in 4 days.. Keeping my fingered crossed.....

Got myself rimula r3x. R4 was not available. Many warned me not to go for a diesel engine oil. I just told them to go ahead. Well, vibes definitely have redused. So has the pick up. I had agip fully synth last time. Comparing the acceleration with this I can feel the difference. There's a bit lag. Might be other reasons as well though.
And engine heating I cannot comment. Need to go for a bit more longer ride. Its the best oil ive used till date..

Btw people at shell were forcing me to go for shell helix. They say its perfect for al-round usage and bit more better than shell advance. True?

Why not try the Dunlop Geo Cruiser 100/90-18? Used to come on the classic CBZ and is still religiously used by many Zma, unicorn, shine, pulsar(100/90-17), etc users. Its sticky but not icky-sticky ;-)

Right , you are upshifting at a too low rpm for this motor by force of habit from your bullet . Happy riding with new bike .

Shell Helix range is for cars AFAIK. (may be wrong here)
Refrain from using car oils as it will cause severe gear slippage.

Good to see another member taking a Bold decision...like the others you will not regret it....The R3X and R4 are 15w40 grade and if you had been using thinner oil before, you will definitely feel lesser acceleration.....The ZMA's original spec for oil was 20w40, hence this oil is in spec...Hope you have good experience with the Rimula R3x.....Helix is for Cars and not advised for Wet Clutch engines...

A 15W50 is thicker than 15W40 (when hot), and it will reduce acceleration of bike recommended with w40 oil...Rimula R3x and R4 are both 15W40 and the grade is best suited for ZMA/ZMR engines .
