About K&N air filter, installing just that isn't gonna help you much.
You need to get upjetting done. The air filter increases the air intake of the carb, with stock jets, the Air Fuel Mixture (AFR) becomes too lean, this can harm your engine a lot.
A lean mixture will overheat the engine. Problems are eminent.
Its important to upjet, simply meaning replace the stock jet with a bigger size jet.

So no engine overheating after continuous 100km ride? What's your experience?

That's an important issue, Don't you think? Thanks for the DIY mate.

Engine is going to heat ofc, but as regards to the hot weather here, engine heats up more than usual. It is good to take short breaks in the journey, say about every 60-80 kms, if you plan on riding long distances.
In my experience, i had ridden about 100 kms continuous from Dombivli to Igatpuri.. It was winter so the engine didn't overheat that much.
It also depends on your riding style.. I cruised at about 80-85 kmph almost constant..

          • rpm on neutral query

I bought a Pulsar 135 LS 2012 model and rode for 9 months with only 1 servicing so far and slightly above 500 km run.
I'm confused to what to keep the rpm on neutral position just after start, because too much rpm causes sound on 1st gear and too less makes it to stop suddenly in traffic.
            e.g. 1 or 1.5 or 2 ?

The bike hasn't even completed a run in yet! Get some kms on the odo, let the engine get some heat, its not going to work well if it isn't ridden at all..!
The usual idle RPM is 1.5

dude keep ur rpm needle just above 1 in ur console
                  dats enough
if u keep it at 2 or above ur bike starts to drink more and u wont get a feel of new bike due to its sound

Up jetting is not a tough task, but an experienced hand is a must. Local mechanics aren't reliable in such delicate mods, they will **** up the carb.
Bajaj svc won't even touch your carb when servicing, what makes you think they will help? More over its a custom mod, bajaj will help you only and until everything is just stock.
Well the up jetting will make the Air Fuel Ratio good enough to not over heat the engine.
what basically a K&N filter mod will do is, your bike revs or redlines faster, your top speed may get reduced(in case of a lean AFR).

Open both seats, you can see a rubber hose on top of the stock air filter, remove it. Enjoy!
The rubber hose is meant to suppress the air sound, remove it and there you have k&n roar, free free free! :P

Doesn't harm anything, so no worries about any damages
