    • Recession & Biking - A Good Match

Thats what I discovered... when my company asked me (infact all employees) to take 1 week unpaid leave in the month of march.

Coming soon a complete write up on my 1200 km road trip. And yes I also discovered another thing... Maharashtra is Beautiful... more than I imagined... Just like its people.

Nice one dude.... it made you go on a ride coz you had more time off from your work. It made me ride all the way to Bangalore (from Mumbai) in search of a job

But one thing, my P220 returned commendable mileage of around 42-43kmpl in the times of recession. But this Bangalore ka petrol rates are sky high .

I would consider that a good average. Because in the city, there would mean changing gears more, braking more. There is a difference riding 75-90 in city and 75-90 in highway.

I have linked both the things. Read my trip log to know how I linked Biking with Recession. It was not purely about riding in the leaves i got from company. There WAS A MOTIVE behind it. Trip Log coming soon. People might find it sane or Insane. Dont know rite now. Should be posting latest by tomorrow.

@ Chetan... I got an average of 48-49kmpl. Speed range 40kmph till 100kmph. And LOADS of Ghats. Now dont feel jealous.

                            • @Pranay, city is different and doing it on NH4 for 1000 KMs is different. You too would get such avarage if you do those speeds on the NH4

                              • Well ok this is my review of the Pulsar 220 after 3 months and 15 days at 6000 kms. Last service was done at 5000 kms. After the last service whn i was drivin back home the bike felt silky smooth. The engine was super smooth, the pickup was great and the vibrations were down. But the silky smooth period after the service dosent last much. Very quickly the bike comes back to the pre service stage.

The bike makes a wild vibrations at exactly 6K rpm and dissapears just above 6K. But the vibrations is too much, almost feels like how whn sauron flies on those dragons in The Lord of the Rings and everyone shuts their ears, just like that. The traffic signal is both a boon as well as a curse on a P220. A boon bcoz thn u can race it hard and lave everyone else behind, its fun and till date no one has ever beaten me in drag at the signals. My favorite spot is the signal on the western express higway at bandra till the start of the santacruz flyover, more than half a kilometer of bliss. And by the way i got caught over there once for overspeeeding, there were half a dozen cops with speed guns and i didnt notice. Ok the signal is a curse bcoz you just cant get the 220 into neutral in one go. Sometimes i go between 1st and 2nd gear 4 to 5 times b4 coming into neutral. Its so frustrating, whereas my brothers FZ16 comes into neutral in one go everytime.

The bike is rock stable. And it looks awesome. Even nw people give it a glance. I drive my bike from New Bombay to Andheri everyday and i have seen only a few 220s in the last 3 months, so it feels good to know that u r drivin a bike dats rare on the streets and u r always a step ahead of the crowd at all times. Till date there have been no issues except the oil leak whch am nt yet sure if it really was a oil leak.

Now the performance part. The bikes engine is superb. It has awesome pickup. The bike just zooms like a rocket. At 6K rpm my bike does 84kmph. It goes till 110 without any hesitation, but struggles a bit beyond 120. I have driven the P220 upto a maximum of 131kmph on airoli bridge that too i had to crouch and at the end of the bridge where it it starts to slope downwards. Otherwise whn i was at the center of the bridge and in straight seating position the bike just wouldnt go beyond 125kmph at full throttle. I certainly have a feeling the bike will nt be able to touch the 135 max speed written in the manual. And these days i think my P220 does nt go beyond 125 as the bike touches the redline at 124 kmph and struggles to go beyond.

The bikes brakes are very good though i felt it can be a little better. The lights of the bike are truly world class. The extra features on the bike like self cancelling signal lights are all extremely helpful.

The best part of my bike is its Mileage. The bike gives an awesome mileage of 40kmpl whn i rip the engine (Driving at 120+ at every opportunity and racing upto 100 at every sigal possible in the shortest time) and gives an unbeleivable 50kmpl at sane driving(between 60 and 80kmph). Its truly a fill it shut it forget it bike.

I beleive the P220 is a good bike, but it can be even better. The faring vibrations i feel is somethn that will never go no matter hw much u try, they will need to change the design itself maybe. The engine should have been more powerful. Even though its the fastest still it doesnt feel like a 220 cc 20 bhp engine whn u race with a R15 or even a apache, as u never can leave thm out of sight, they are always there on ur back, though u keep the lead. The P220 really needs a water cooled engine and need s to shed weight. Its too heavy. Bt at 88,000/- Rs its worth every buck. trust me u will never regret buying a P220. Well as of today, I Dont.
