The stay costs around 500rs.... labour would be around 100rs... and the footpeg would cost you another 100 bucks... all in all as kurtrules said... its a 800 rupaiya ka phatka.Originally posted by pranay View Post^^ A properly welded footpeg lasted me a year and a half, thought I never stood on it or gave it any sort of unnecessary pressure.
Although, that being said, after the realisation of that fact which you have posted, I think I would go ahead and spend 800Rs and get that done. I would not risk the chance of being without a footpeg in the middle of a trip. It would be extremely dangerous.Originally posted by MavericK46 View Post+1 to that Pranay. Chetanpulsar's explanation sounds very reasonable.
So, I guess that shoots a hole right through Praful saars wallet
He might end up riding shotgunfor the next few rides
Originally posted by niranjanvaidya View PostI agree with what chetan says...just imagine...you sweeping into a corner with tippy toes on the right welded footpeg, leaning off your bike and just then the weld decides to fall off...
Potentially hazardous. I vote for a complete replacement of the assembly.Originally posted by chetanpulsar View PostConfirmed with Praful... its the left foot peg stay that has broken and not the right one.
So its pretty ok getting it welded.... but then as Niranjan said.... what if it comes off at the wrong time... it could result in a potential hazard... making the bike uncontrollable.
Its better to get it changed completely asap.Originally posted by Aryan View Post@Praful: You have been one of the most outspoken and dedicated person that I have seen on xBhp, as far as the P-220 is concerned. You are the one to speak your heart out about the positives of the machines, while on the same time not backing out when it came to any issue(s) with the P-220 inspite of the fact that you own the bike yourself.
I totally feel that you have really taken our (atleast my) knowledge of the P-220 to a whole new level. You were (and you still are) the one who always made it a point to get the problem sorted out with the P-220 as and when it occurred and making it a point to post a detailed description of the issue(s) and the subsequent solution to the problem.
I would suggest, hence, that instead of welding (which can and will eventually turn out to be a shoddy job), get the foot-peg stay changed. Spending Rs.800/- odd bucks is nothing when compared to the doubt that you would have in mind while riding the bike, if you do plan to get it welded.
That's what I feel!Originally posted by andy.rebels View Post+1 Aryan
I am really really touched by everyone's concern here!
Thanks a TON guys!

A small update: Last evening with great difficulty found a place where Aluminium welding is done. Now welding an Aluminum alloy is not exactly and easy job. Especially when one does not know the exact composition of the alloy and hence the resultant weld strength is unknown. But please be assured, welding properly done is almost (upto 80%) as strong as the orignal piece of metal.
Now the bummer for me was, the guy(s) were reluctant to join back the old pieces (read: they were not sure about the weld strength). Instead the buggers wanted to remake the broken aluminum bit afresh. And charge me 200 bucks for it too. Decided last evening itself that I'd put a new one.
Now here's the double bummer, decided to not go by office cab and get this fixed in the morning. Reached by 8.30 waited for 45 mins for their stock parts section to open. They don't have the left hand side stay's in stock only right hand ones!

Had to ride 30kms to office like that and have to ride back also!
You don't wanna know how madman like I rode to office!

Did my 10K+ service today. The bill came upto Rs 1661.00
Stuff changed:
1) Kit Element Oil - 68.88
2) Disk Pad Set - 130.66
3) Fuel Filter - 43.36
4) Connecting Link - 14.84
5) Rear Brake Caliper - 172.44
6) Seat Cowl Decal *2- 120.62
7) Tape I - 6.36
8) Tape II - 0.96
9) Minor Charges - 65.00
10) Teflon Chain - 45.33
11) Consumable - 45.00
12) Engine Oil 1.2L - 366.00
+ VAT + Service Tax + Teflon Coating (4 Free Rs 500)
Some notes:
* I have changed back to Castrol 20W50 for the moment to see if there is any difference perceivable between it and Motul.
* Fairing Vibes have disappeared, but the question is for how long.
* There were certain scratch marks at the left side of the fairing. A black mark of a CBZ falling over towards my bike at parking on the right side of the fairing. Scratch marks from people hitting the rear cowl while getting off and doing the roundhouse kick. ALL of them have disappeared due to the teflon coating retouch. I didn't know it was that useful. Anything except deep scratches can be removed. Awesome. Bike looks shiny and new. But again, the question is, for how long.
* Chain and sprocket set are well and truly okay. No signs of rusting or corroded metal.
* Fuel Filter was extremely dirty (saw the old one).
* Disk pads were gone totally.
* I had asked the fairing and the bracket to be taped at the points where they touched, just to reinforce. It will be under observation for a month or so. Will try to do some off roading as well. If it lasts, then I think the fairing vibe problem is truly solved.DoN\'t LivE tO DiE, dIe tO LiVe

Sure, I'll leave from office at 6PM, will be using the Outer Ring Road from ITPL to Banashankari, with the usual shortcuts around BTM and Jayanagar to cut travel time!Originally posted by MavericK46 View Post@Praful : Route sollunga saar (Gimme the route you'll be taking sir) I'll video record the Office-Home sprint
@KP : If Praful agrees, you'll be getting a video documentary from me

You have the route now, catch me if you can!
@Pranay: Has Marie done your service? And have they used double sided white tape under the fairing panels for vibes? If for questions its Yes! Don't worry, the vibes will be contained for really looong time!

Not Marie. It was Rajesh. And correct, thats the tape/taping method I am talking about. Advise for most 220's to get it done.Originally posted by prafultripathy View Post@Pranay: Has Marie done your service? And have they used double sided white tape under the fairing panels for vibes? My fairing vibes problem comes and goes along with the rear brake squeaking sounds. Marie had told me about that tape but surprise surprise! No tape in stock. If it does a good job then ill go there some weekend and get it done.Originally posted by pranay View PostNot Marie. It was Rajesh. And correct, thats the tape/taping method I am talking about.
