      • Need Help !!

Hai all .. I need some help.
I am using a 2007 April model Karizma (19 k kilometers) for last three months ..i bought it second hand ..
The bike is fully in stock condition (except the 55/60 w Philips extreme power headlight I fitted).
After i got the bike I had to change many parts including clutch plate , clutch plate assembly (full), cam tenser and some other stuffs (and some body parts too including front cowl ).
Now The bike is running smooth and fine and got a max mileage 42 , min 28 and giving me constant 35 avg mileage . I really love the bike and now addicted to it especially the way it cruses on 80 at 5 k RPM .
I am now working in Chennai and I went to Pondicherry , Bangalore and some other Road trips with the bike and it is simply awesome for touring .
But now I am facing a problem the bike is not getting a good top end . I have touched 130 on it but the problem is the bike is showing variable top speed. Most of the times it is not crossing 110 (with pillion)
And sometimes it got stuck at even 100 (Rpm around 6k not going above) . The Rpm is not going above 7 most of the times (at 5 th gear) . But the initial pick up is good. it will touch up to 100 easily but after 100 the performance degrades .The confusing thing is that in my pondi trip I touched 130 with pillion(Rpm 8) and on for first two hours on the Bangalore trip the bike was touching 125 but after two hours it refuses to go above 110 whatever I do . These days the bike is stuck at 110 top speed . I am really wondering what’s wrong with my bike . I took it to one Mechanic, told my problem but after servicing also the problem exists After that I tried two Hero Honda service centers but no change.
Can anyone tell me what will be the problem? (or which part of the bike wil be the probably cause) Can any chennai Xbhpians help me to find a good Karizma Mechanic ?

        • Another thing i want to ask ..

          1. In 5 th gear whats the maximum Rpm attained by your bike?
          2. Whats the top speed you are getting? and at what RPM?
          3. Does wind affect the top speed? (the thing is that when i travelled in opposit direction of the road i am getting more top speed)

          Thanks in advance

I can understand your situation bro. ZMA fall is really heavy on the pocket. The repairs on my sir's zma costed 32500 bucks. If that was not enough, I had to undergo plastic surgery which costed me another 21000 bucks, 2 weeks of bed rest, all that mental agony, etc. That's why I didn't buy a zma since I knew that I was not mature enough to handle the bike then. As you know the first thing which comes to mind after owning the beast is to check the top speed. I didn't want to crash on such deadly speeds as 140 km/h and cause a mental trauma to my parents and also be a burden on them. That's why I had to control my desires for a zma and went for a Platina since it woild not cost much if you crash on it. I had a crash on my bike at the same speed as the one which I had on the zma. The damage to me and my bike was almost nil, thanks to the leg guard. The leg guard was slightly bent and there were a few scratches on the front fairing. I didn't even bother to change them as they are not readily visible. After both of these crashes I felt that I did a wise decision of not going by looks and power but being practical. This bike saves a lot of money on petrol for me and I can easily go on long rides on the highway.
Finally I would say that, If you need something, you have to lose something.

Hope you get your bike repaired and see you back in action.

                Ride safe and responsibly!

don't see anything .. just go for it ... its a great bike .. i own a 220 dtsi .. but still my love for zma never ends .. whenever i see a zma i feel jealous of that guy .. the engine is so smooth .. u feel like riding a flight ... spares are little high but dont consider it .. it has got one of the best engine .. more reliable ... mileage u will get around 35 .. my opinion is just go for it .. new zma pgm-fi will be too costly .. so just go for the zma R if u love zma and craze of it .. just an opinion of mine

                    happy ride

Jitu, keep all the following things in mind.

                      1. Top speed is affected by heavy winds (I guess there are so many now in monsoon season, particularly near sea).
                      2. Top speed is affected by pillion.

The above two points affect the top speed particularly above 100 speed.

A normal karizma goes easily up to 110, and it struggles from there to go till 130. After reaching 110, if the road is a up slope or if there is opposite or cross winds, bike struggles to go beyond.

The best cruising speed for Zma is 100. You can occasionally go to 120 and you cannot always go at 120.

Because you were able to achieve 130 speeds at times, I guess your bike is very much normal. May be you are expecting the bike to quickly reach higher speeds after attaining 110. Remember after attaining 110 kmph, karizma takes more time to reach the top speed (135 kmph speedo indicated). Also with pillion bike needs more pull at higher speeds to attain top speeds.

Hope I cleared some of your thoughts.

If you want to quickly achieve the top speeds with pillion, shift to 5th gear at 80-90 kmph speed. You can do the same when you ride alone.

It is not advisable to go beyond 8k rpm in 5th gear.

Based on your inputs, I guess your bike is fine. If you want any further clarifications I am happy to help you.

                      Ravi.

and What is the recommended tyre pressure for Karizma for front and rear
.i have stock tyres . Morning to office i ride with pillion and evening i ride alone . Which pressure will be better?? which one is you all following?

what is decarbonisation?? one xbhpian suggested me to do decarbonisation on the bike for better results..Will HH guys do this?
                        how much it will cost??

                        • its been 4 months since i saw my baby off, but 120 was never a problem and i never saw more than 130 on the speedo,
snick to 4th at around 95(its intoxicating) and fifth once you are about 9k rpm

only if there is a road desered & straight as an arrow your bike will cross 7k rpm in 5th

So 7k is the max RPm you are gettign on the bike at 5 th gear right??

then i think as Ravi told my bike is quite normal .. My over expectation about the bike may be the problem . I doubted my bike has a problem only after i heard Zma can easily cross 120 and toch 130 (even with pillion) and on 5 th gear it can go above 8 k rpm (or touch )

                            • Jitu,

5h gear speeds at different RPMS

                              4k rpm - 60 kmph
                              5k rpm - 80 kmph
                              6k rpm - 100 kmph
                              7k rpm - 110 kmph
                              8k-8.5k - above 120 kmph

You can touch 8k in 5 th gear. Once I reached 8.5k and my bike's engine was shut (redline at 8k rpm). It started only after 20 min.

Because you have already changed many spares in the engine, I do not think decarbonization is required. If you do not take care of engine oil and if you put bad petrol, in long-term carbon deposits will accumulate. Old engines would get benefited from decarbonization.

My bike is now almost 40k and it still holds good. I have taken utmost care of engine oil, spark plug, proper chain lubrication, and air filter. These are very important for getting optimum performance from the bike.

Jitu, when did you change your air filter? Did you check if it is clean? If it is more than 15k, it is better to change the air filter. Also same case with spark plug. Also stick to HH 10w30 oil for good results (only from Idemitsu).
