Well, I have to use choke each morning to start the bike. Starts with first crank. Wait 30 secs and then drive off!

PS- Are you doing some survey, posting the same Q in all the ownership threads? Just kidding mate

        • Not only ZMA, most HH bikes have very good starters. Definitely better than the Pulsars.

But my ZMA's starter works depending on the mood of the starter. Sometimes it works, most of the times it doesn't.

            • Guys, Does a weak electricals connection or problem with alternator cause starting problem? I have to use choke daily in the mornings and it takes about 5 mins or 3 kms for the throttle response to become normal. My battery is slowly dying out. Horn sounds weak and the starter does not work after 2 cranks. Looks like battery is not receiving enough charging current. Right now everything is stock on my bike except for my silencer guard. So I mainly suspect the electrical connections or alternator. My bike is 1 year old and 12k kms, and these problems are showing up after my recent (6th) free service. Need some inputs regarding this. Thanks in advance.

You know the problem-get the alternator checked!

                • Technical query

Q1. I want to know that when we start our bike , the engine starts running and the battery starts charging// so when the battery is full do the alternator stops charging it ??? Wat is the mechanism behind it??

Q2. Soon im getting the zmr.....so now the bike does not have kick and the battery is only 6ah////.....so does this will cause any problems.....as ppl suggest to use kick in morning....but zmr doenst have kick so will the starter motor life would be reduced???

Q3. What is the normal life of starter motor usually???

Look, suppose you have a bucket. (Analogous to a battery) And you open the tap to fill water. (Analogous to charging the battery) When the bucket fills, the water overflows as there is adequate provision to drain extra water. Same, when a battery charges completely, the extra current is wasted by the RR unit as heat. The RR unit maintains the voltage level at a constant value (around 13.8V) same way as water level is maintained at a constant value in a fully filled bucket.

No, starting in the morning using the starter is the same as starting during the day using the starter. Those advices do not apply to modern bikes. Do car nowadays come with cranking handles for cold starts?

Q3. What is the normal life of starter motor usually???

                    Atleast 2 years min.

                      R15 has only 2.5-amp battery.

Are Indica & ZMA stock bulb same size?
yes..they are of same size..only difference is zma bulb glass is white and the four wheeler indicator bulbs..new models(santro, indica etc) are orange

                          Thanks for supporting my suspicion.
I am really not sure of what could cause this starting trouble. Could be the climate change. I am too lazy to take my bike to a service center , leave it with them for repair and pick it up again. I wish I could have a service manual and do all the repairs myselves at home.

How many kilometers do you do a day and how many times a week do you use the bike? It may be that your trips are too short that the battery isn't getting a chance to get recharged because of short trips, especially if at night.

It could also be that your battery is dying - OE battery on my ZMA began to fade after about 18 months and I replaced it with a Amaron VRLA.

I suggest you start with getting your battery charged and following it up with a week of regular use to make sure.

                            • @nirvan; I use my bike to travel 30 kms in a day, minimum 4 days in a week.

I will try recharging the battery and if needed replace after observation. Thanks for your reply.

Looks like the OE Amco battery does not last very long. Btw, Whats your opinion on your Amaron VRLA battery? I guess its a 9Ah and has been secured in place by bending the holder.

                              • Thanks Jithu,
am a relaxed man now. The gears are showing improvement after the oil change as suggested by you all.The bike has started to calculate the returns dat its gonna pay off, i guess!

Hey Raccoon, the united agency recommended me to get my baby servied at automark. Is that that bad anyway? In that case i'm gonna go to Sehgal in Thermax Chowk Akurdi. this SS is suggested by Chinmay Dangre whom i showed the bike to examine.

Thanks folks. Personally i never wanted to put the legend ZMA in bad light. But had some niggle with mine and hence shared with u all. BTW riding the bike itself gives such a 'sweet' feeling as the power delivery is soooooooooooo smooth and effortless
