The limiter is a device that prevents the engine from revving beyond a certain RPM (range). It ensures that the engine isn't subjected to revs that it isn't meant/designed to handle for the sake of engine longevity and safety.Originally posted by dcs View PostPardon me mates for my stupidity but what exactly is the Limiter... and is it possible to get rid of that, and is it of any use???
The jist of it being that the limiter prevents 'over-revving'. When one hits the limiter in any gear, the fuel-supply gets cut-off for some time leading to an involuntary loss of speed and revs.
When i'd whacked the limiter in 1st on my Uni, the engine dropped revs, and then shut off. Subsequently, i couldn't get her started for a couple of mins.
I ain't planning on performing the same experiment on the Zma

err..pardon me but how does the fuel cut off?A bike doesn't use fuel pump unless its an fi.I thought the cdi cuts off the ignition once the limit is reached.please correct me if i am wrong.Originally posted by MavericK46 View PostThe limiter is a device that prevents the engine from revving beyond a certain RPM (range). The ignition is retarded at the preset cut-off. But i have heard of mechanical governors that are used to limit the speed.
My guess was that the rev-limiters on our architecturally old Indian machines were actually mechanical governors of some sort. I stand corrected unless proved otherwise by one of the gurus in the forum

Once I revved my bike almost around 8.9k and the engine was shut automatically. It started only after 20 min.Last edited by ravi@17bhp; 08-06-2009, 09:33 PM.HH Karizma (Current) || CBF Stunner PGM-FI || Honda CB Unicorn Dazzler

A headlight relay from Bosch can be used in Karizma with wiring kit.HH Karizma (Current) || CBF Stunner PGM-FI || Honda CB Unicorn Dazzler

my zma boozes
Guys,
Till now my zma has done close to 4.5k kms and it was running fine till last week. Now that I am not riding it except on weekends, it'll be idle for most of the days. What i observed is an astonishing change that the bike's average has dropped from 35+ kmpl to barely 18-20 kmpl . I don't feel any difference in power or revs at particular speed and gear to complain about. It has started happening off late and I am really annoyed. Don't think anyone on this forum has ever faced such an issue. please let me know if you guys have any idea about the same.
Cheers,

Follow the following steps may be it will work
1. Tuning of carburetor
2. Cleaning of Spark plug( if necessary you might change it)
if problem still remains the may be electrical problem( alternator, cdi, ignition coil any one of these might be the reason).

Exactly. A ZMA would not rev beyond 9180 rpm with the stock CDI. Period.Im guessing Mr. Technician actually means that the limiter kicks in at 9189 RPM.
Change to CBZ CDI, and one may rev it upto 9650 rpm theoritically.
My CBZ runs upto 9400 rpm but in lower 4th gear without any problem.

If the issue has hit you completely out of the blue, id look into something as trivial as where you're parking your vehicle.Originally posted by krishnadevanur View PostGuys,

The parking attendant might have suddenly developed a taste for 91 octane !
P.S: Sounds funny, but it seems to be the likely cause.I'm normally not a praying man, but if you're up there, please save me Superman.
