ZMA back fired today when i had self started it.why did it happen????? plz help. engine was running properly and was on sufficient heat too.

I think it's around 3 to 3.5 turns from fully screwed in. Not very sure.

I will be taking delivery of a new zma tomorrow @ Chennai. This will be my fourth motorcycle.. but I havent owned one in the last 3years(weird?) so finding my feet again on the roads. I read about zma on several sites/magz/blogs but couldnt get info on some points.

1) Can I fit a crash guard on ZMA? if yes, do the service centres typically have it in stock? any help on price, processes of fitting are welcome.

2) Has anyone tried fitting a top-box (not pizza box)? Usually fits behind the pillion seat on the grab rail. Any brands/suggestions? Anyone tried the hard boxes on both sides?

1. There isn't a direct fitment option for a crash guard, but some members have installed one by modifying the crash guard of another bike. (look up vaas2000's posts or PM him for more).

2. I have not seen a retail fitment option for the pizza box you speak of. There are small side panniers available. Cramster makes soft motorcycle luggage.

Inder..the one on my bike is 100/90

If, you have the 100/90 size one then i guess it shouldn't affect the bike's performance

zma-R crashguard issue solved

Thanks to vaas2000 because of him I got OSRAM nightbreaker and crashguard fitted on to my zma.

The nightbreaker costed 600 bucks and cbz xtreme crashguard 370/-

The nightbreaker was not available in any of the stores in J.C. road, i forgot the OSRAM dealer name. Please contact vaas2000 for more details.

The nightbreaker is a 100% improvement over the stock for sure.

The crashguard is a direct fit to zma-R. Initially, we thought it would need some welding work to get it on to the bike just like the one on vasanth's zma. But the innovative mech with the help of a clamp managed to put it on to the bike without issues. Rode around 60 kms in bangalore. so far no issues.

Will post the pics once i go home.

Crashguard was 370 bucks, The labour cost was 150. decent chap. vaas2000 got his bosch horn fixed from the same guy.

I have recently bought a new ZMA and there are some doubts/Issues which i would like to clarify..the bike is 33 days old and has done 2700 odd Kms till date...and the bike has compelted 2nd service..

1 . I have installed Philips Crystal vision 60/55 w Head light bulbs..the output of the bulbs are amazing..but i recently did some Night riding say about 150 kms or so and i have notice that the reflectors have started to melt..has anybody notice the same..?

2. The Balancer Weights on the Front mag wheel has come out after my recent Kodachadri ride...! when i asked the HH service guys they said that those weight are not that important and i wouldnt have any problems because of that... But i wonder...since those weights are balancer weight wont there be any problem..like wobbling at high speeds...? I even went to a local Wheel Alignment and balancing shop..but he said that he doesnt have equipments has such to do the balancing..! I requested him to put back those balancer weights back to the Mags where it was...
I would like to know..how many of u have faced the similar problem and does it really makes any difference without the weights..?

3. What is the exact way to check the Engine oil level..? According to the Manual book it says the bike must be started and kept idling for about 3- 5 mins and then check the engine oil level...but as far i know the engine oil must be checked when the engine is cold...!! now which method is correct..?

4 . I have noticed the engine oil level on my bike was little less ( the level was between the Low and Full mark) i had changed the oil 1000 kms back..so how could it be less..? is my bike drinking engine oil..? Has i said the bike has done only 2700 kms...how is it possible that the bike is drinking engine when it so new..? is there any problem with the bike..?

Abhishek, my comments in the same order.

1. Please remove the CrystalVision immediately. You can use Osram Silverstar or Osram Nightbreaker (better) 55/60W. Tested and currently used by many others, including me.

2. Though balancer weights are important, I do not think it will cause any significant difference. Once I accidentally removed the balancer weight of the front wheel, and put it back at a different place. After this, I did not face any difference at higher speeds. Next time, when you go to high speeds, check if there is any difference.

3. The procedure in the manual is correct and please follow that. 2 minutes of idling will not cause the engine to get heated. The reason why you have to idle is, for distribution of oil to all the engine parts, and this will give you the exact level of the engine oil. If you check engine oil level when the bike is kept for a while, as the engine oil settles to the bottom, it will not give the correct reading.

4. Did you check the level when you filled last time?? There are chances that the Service people put a bit of less oil in that. If you have checked the oil level when they poured last time and if you notice level difference now, please quantify how much oil is less. Around 25ml oil decrease is okay. But, next time when you give for service, check the oil level by following the manual procedure and note the level immediately after the service. Check for the level again after 1000km with the same procedure and see for any change.

Well thanks for the reply Ravi....yes i would change the headlight to osram soon if this continues... and regarding the balancer weights..i havent done any high speeds after the weights have come out..let me check that get back...

yes i did check the engine oil level after the service..and the oil level was proper...and when i checked it for the second time i.e after the bike had covered 1000 kms ( after the service) and the oil level was low... though i had checked it without the warm procedure has mentioned in the manual..i guess it was because of the wrong procedure i followed..let me update after some kms...and this time i will follow the Procedure as in the manual..

new zma @ home

This evening I took delivery of a yellow zma! Rode around the city for 22km before I reached home. Noticed the following
- The fuel tank was 'hot' from the radiation from the engine bay. My thighs were feeling the intensity as well. (need to remove the cowl soon)
- The gear shift was notchy. infact, couldnt down shift from 3 to 2 a couple of times (hope this disappears in first service)
- It feels like a mini-version of my previous bike and therefore I connected (got comfy) with the zma in a matter of minutes
- the default setting of rpm is 1500 (cold) and when warmed up is 1900 (hot)
- the bike was very noisy
- The bike is quite a handful in traffic
- liked the soft suspension
