  • Re: Karizma/Karizma R Ownership Experience

It is not that I can offer solutions, but would like a couple of points cleared.
To which resize did you overbore?
Is the running in period over?
What speeds did you maintain for the first 1000/2000 Kms after rebore?
Was the carb retuned after the rebore?
With a rebored engine, more heat is to be expected. You can try the air filter mod suggested by par sir. I had posted about my DIY.
For oil leaks I guess packings must be changed.

Please post when the issues are rectified and how it was done.

        • Karizma is one of the tall and long bikes of nation, so perfect for those who are round about 6’ tall like me. Body seems carved in the shape of tiger and graphics are featured for sports and racing look. Karizma R users, use only 900ml lubricants engine oil as the manufactures recommends it.

          • Hello guys, how are you all

Need help, Karizma is not starting, It has been performing absolutely fine, now today when I went to install the battery after recharging it, I heard tik tik sound coming from the engine, It came while kicking or self starting. After few attempts it stopped and now its not willing to start. The kick is also feel lifeless. I checked the spark plug and its getting power properly. Removed the fuel cap to check if there is any air lock issue. But the problem is the kick itself not feeling life to it, its not as free as when we have faulty clutch but its not giving any feedback. I have feeling that something got broken inside, cam chain or something I dont know if it gives this sort of issue without cam chain. What could be problem? Please suggest. Thanks.

              Hi Buddy,

If the engine was making abnormal sounds and since the kicker is now feeling lifeless, it is better to get it inspected by a Mechanic. To reach the root cause of the problem and trying to fix yourself might be a bad idea in terms of time\money wastage. Do let us know how you proceed.

              Best of luck.

From your post, kick feeling dead, tik tik sound during self start and battery, spark plug HT coil current is fine means only one thing. Suggest you to not to try to start again and again, as it can cause more damage.

Did you try to start using jerk? Pushing it in a slope and try to dump the clutch in 3rd gear? What happens?

I feel your bike has no compression from the dead kicker or could be slipping dead clutch.
Better to tow or push to bike to nearest mechanic,

What is color of Spark plug tip? Is it grey and burnt, or black and oily or white and corroded?

Remove the top valve cover to start with, if you see any broken valves and cams wheels, guides and seals, also check for clearances.
Next remove the Head assembly and check for any broken/damaged rings, heavy scratch marks on cylinders piston or broken crank rod.

Karizma is one of the cheapest 200cc+ bikes to maintain right now even if its a full rebuild, should not cost more.

^^Thanks buddy for detailed response. Clutch seems fine, dumping the clutch locks the wheels, there is air coming out of silencer as well, when kicker used plus wheel also spins as it normally do. I checked the timing chain and it is intact. You are right, it has no compression now. Looks like there is problem with the valves or something. I took to the nearest service center but found it closed. I will take to again. I myself wont be able to solve this I guess. The surprising thing is, it has happed while it was standing, I rode it few days back and it was fine and when tried starting this happened.

MC Kit Doesn't have any relation with the Brake light being on. Could be the brake light switch(Under the lever) is a goner. That will make you feel that the MC is the culprit.

Ji first check if the Brake lever goes back to rest position when you release it. If it does not, check for lubrication. If it still does not return fully back , then there is contamination of brake fluid making the the Master cylinder piston "O" rings to swell and become tight. Changing the master cylinder kit AFTER flushing and cleaning the old brake fluid is the only way out.
I am assuming the brake light switch position is not altered and is in good condition.

                        • Just found on youtube..karizma retrofitted with dual channel abs.. posting here for some masala to discuss..may be abs retrofitting is not that problematic as we think, although price will be 35k-40k..reliability of this abs is also not sure..i think unless we have apache ride modes defined abs it should not be any problem psr , fellow riders any advice.

ABS is useful in a straight line braking .above 10 to 15 Kmph as per design. Karizma has Nissin braking system and is good in stock form, in my opinion. The effective usefulness of the fit had to be ascertained from the end user.

It is not preferred to go for the High Lift cam since it causes repeated problem with valve clearance ie., tappet adjustment , and also causes increased tappet noise. Some owners had complained of increased drive train wear. Regarding the Piston, it is slightly increased compression . To use or not is user's discretion.
Overall the smoothness of the engine is not the same as the older Karizma with Stock , Older version of Piston and Cam.
                                Good Luck.
