Some family issues call me for reducing my expenditure for the next bike. I was on the lookout for a ZMA in good condition and not costing a bomb at the same time. Here's what I got. Please suggest whether its a good buy or not...

    Make: Jan 2005
    Odo: 45000 km
Mods(if you can call them as such):
Removed chain cover (new chainset needed)
A lame horn, pointing to a lamer battery
    Others:
Little wobble in the wheel when slowing down
    Disc pads seemed worn out
    Rattling fairing
    Leaking fork seal
Clicking noise when idling (new timing chain req)
New rear tyre and clutch plates

The owner claims he was in Bangalore for two years and started driving the bike only recently since February this year. By the looks of it, the bike seems OK while it definitelty has been neglected on the maintanence front.

Finally, the price quoted is 39k, willing to negotiate as well. Do you thing I should go for this one, or wait and watch for a better one?

PS: My other preference is a Bullet.
Whoa fixing all those will surely cost a bomb,i suggest you reconsider as zma parts are damn expensive

    • +1 to what Veloci said..

It surely is a F***d up bike..and if you settle down to get it repaired..it will cost you very much..since HH's parts are a bit on the expensive side..!!

      • dude if it was a descent Karizma that do not needa ny urgent works then the price was reasonable . But from your post i think you have to spend at least 6-7 k to get the bike in perfect condition. So my sugestion is leave this ZMa and search for another one which is already in a good condition . You can get descent 2005 Zmas for 40 k i am sure..
If you can shell out 10-12 k more you can find very descnt Karizma -R (2007) model for 53-55 k .. Better go for a good condition ZMa than tryign to repair it bcz the parts will cost you high..

But am using them on my RTR for a year i had changed only one set!

          • The price may be tempting, but I'm sure you'll find better in the same price range.

45k km in four years is a fair bit, works out to almost 100km/month.

Make it a point to check out at 5-6 examples before you make up your mind.

@rachitkohli - I have been working on this karizma since 2006. It runs a custom profile ground hi-fi Race camshaft, custom springs with inhouse machined retainers, reprofiled port geometry, custom runner length, hand fabricated mehaphonic exhaust and a few more bits. The bike already is in a high state of tune. I have won 2 national hill climb and 1 national level drag event on this machine. Its quite encouraging to take the karizma to some next levels since I have been planning since a long time now.
way to go Joel.. thats a really heavy enhancement you have done to zma before the HH guyz i think. You make any machine a devil man..!!
wish I could had even some percent of knowledge you own.!!
just get a pleasure in knowing what you are upto & attempt trying to understand your heavy enhancements..!!
you are an indeed inspiration & wonderful to know you through xBHP

Seems the thing is true. Spares do cost a soul-to-the-devil bargain.

My thoughts exactly. The ZMR (Fi) was out of question now, but I think I can manage a budget of 80k for the ZMA.

No more into old ZMA...maybe getting a new one.

Damn Bajaj showroom...don't have a test bike to show me how good the ZMA is compared to the P220.

I have been working on this bike for the last 3 years and was owned previously our own xbhp member Kushanth. When he decided to sell, I made an offer.
The engine is one of its kind and I have a lot of work already planned. The engine will be worked radically for the upcoming Hyderabad drag in the next 3 weeks.
The bike currently produces over 24bhp with its 223cc mill and does 0-100 in under 9 secs with its 135kilo mass.
Currently running stock CDI and stock gearing and gearbox.
                      Works planned are,
Programmable digital ignition - Custom maps and custom set-up
                      My in-house fabricated 245cc big-bore (I'm already working on the set-up)
33mm Mikuni Flatslide CV carb off the BMW F650 twin port set-up
Further cylinder head modifications with revised port profiles
                      custom fabricated crankcase breather system
                      A new tuned exhaust
                      Revised gearing
                      Rear suspension set-up change
Stiffer front suspension with lowered front
Custom brake rotor + caliper for better stopping power
17" wheels front and rear (a little later) with racing rubber
                      Revised seating and handling geometry
Steering damper and a lot more.
Will start a thread in a few weeks once the bike takes form.
plz upload some pics of ur bike mate....

March 2008 model, that means your baby is almost 1 n 1/2 years old.
Don't know depreciation rate, but I think since Pulsar 220 DTSi is launched for 70K (ex-showroom), you may not get a good deal.
I think, it's better you keep old ZMA with you as you mention your ZMA is in very good condition.

                            I am on a look-out of a Yellow Karizma "R".
I basically want ZMA for going to office on weekdays & touring on weekends.
Recently in "OverDrive Sep 2009" issue, they have mentioned average of Karizma as 54KMpL (highway) & 40KMpL (city).
I doubt on these figuers, can you guys put some light on it?
