      • Hi all! what is the recommended kms to change disc pads for front and liners for rear brakes? This morning I heard a slight screeching sound when I apply the rear brakes. Is it that my liners are wearing out?

In the "Art of safe riding" (http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/art-safe...0-braking.html) section, it is recommended to change rear liners @8k kms and 10-12k for front disc pads. Mine has already done 11.8k. Meaning front brakes is due & rear brakes are OVER due. Not forgetting the price of those nissin brake pads .

        What do you think?

disc breaks of zma-r can last as much upto 30,000 km if used correctly.

if u found loss in breaking power then u shud replace, noise can be due to some other causes also, so get it checked.

If ur planning to change ur tires, I would suggest you go for the Michelin M45 4.00" *18. U can use this as tubed or tubeless, depending on ur wish.
I would say, amazing performance on dry+wet roads. U will never go wrong on this one.

The Karizma I had i only rode for about 9-10K then sold it off. In the latest service it went through, the service mechanic advised me to change the disc brake pads in the next service. So if your's has clocked 11.8K as you say, then more or less its your time to change it whenever you get the opportunity.

              • On an average ZMA disc pads run for around 12-15k depending on usage.

                • Thanks all. What about the rear brake liner. Most inputs were for the front disc pads.

                  • ^^Open it and check. If still there is life, just use them. The life of disc pads and rear brake shoes depend on the use. Extensive use of brakes result in faster wear out. Do a visual check and decide whether to replace or not.

honestly, not even changed the rear brake pads on the R15(done 13000kms+) as I use the rear only about 20-30%.
Just to give you and Idea..(i assume your talking about the rear drum brake)..on the first bike i had, the energy FX, the rear drum brake was changed at the same time as the front (near 10-12,000kms)
this includes the enrgy FX being my first ride...so i used the front and rear 50-50%. and the drums at the front and rear both were of the same size as that of the ZMA -130 or maybe 135mm
so depending upon usage i guess you might be able to estimate when to change the rear brake shoes.

Open it...mmmmm. Doesn't sound very exciting . Anyway since I am a very sedate rider....and I mean very very, after all I easily get 47-50kmpl regularly . Im never in a hurry so take my sweet time to slow down and stop or accelerate. So figured my brakes may last twice longer than other ZMAs. But as I mentioned earlier, I heard a screeching sound while applying rear brake this morning, but it goes away sometimes. Was wondering if my liner was wearing out.

Yup the rear brakes. And I use both front and rear almost 100% of the time. Of course the force applied on the rear is very light comparably. Anyway by your comment, I would assume mine is due for change. Thanks.
