  • Mineral oil for ZMA-R

    (maybe a repeat query)

Shell has come up with 10W30 Mineral oil(Shell advance SX4) for 4 stroke Motorcycles. Just wanted to ask if anyone has specific experience with Mineral engine oils and post what kms can one put that or its recommended for the bike.

      • I'm facing some acute problems with my '06 zma.

        1. Varying Idle rpm
        2. Sometimes the engine stalls as if current ceased, while idling.
        3. The rpm hangs on for sometime before dropping (only) between 3k-4k range, infact increases before dropping.
Illustration: suppose I'm upshifting onto 3rd and I shift somewhere a little over 3k rpm. At 3k when the clutch is engaged for the shift(accelerator completely shut off) the rpm automatically shoots up till 3.5k and hangs on there for sometime before the revs come down normally.
        4. Post 120Kmph, it behaves as if its running out of gas/breath.

I've been suspecting it as a tuning issue. My mechanic hasn't been able to help me in this issue.
Let me give you my take on these aspects. Before that, I would like to let you know that my air-screw was jammed and it had to be taken to the lathe to open up.

        1. For the varying idle rpms, suspecting a leakage somewhere, the carburetor was cleaned, manifolds inspected for leakage, the insulator changed(The O-ring of the previous insulator was reused). Still the issue exists.

        2. I've been guessing the above 1 to be responsible for 2 also. Or is this with the electrical system - CDI unit or something - I'm not technically aware.

        3. Again, 1. I feel due to some leakage I'm running lean and hence the rpms hang on.

        4. Maybe I'm not getting a good top speed due to the lean mixture

The spark plug indicates a lean mixture

Please help in the form of suggestions and advises.
Also pointers to any good mechanics in Bengaluru who could diagnose the problem would also be of help

        • This is primarily due to air screw setting changed.. I suggest the service center people should be able to get it restored.

          • Thanks for the quick reply.
Correct, it might be due to the air-screw tuning. I've been trying with various adjustments over a period of more than 2 months, but of no help.
The service centre guys basically dont want to dirty their hands. They are contemplating that a carburetor change would resolve the issue.
I can straight away get that changed, but just want to make sure that its the last resort. I dont want to change the entire carburetor if the problem could be solved by a workaround or a few cheaper parts.
            The carburetor costs about 5k.

                  • @sheel: Get the RTR's Disc pads. These cost around 350 Rupees and are a direct fit.

@tushar: Are you talking about the sensor which has 'padmini' etched over it?
What do I intend to do? Stuff ZMR drivetrain into an Ambition chassis and watch others run scared!

Actually it is the small metal piece under meter assembly where speedometer wire is connected.

                      • Some weird metal sheet noise is coming form my zma's exhaust. esp during sudden acceleration and engine braking, not when maintaining cruising speed.

It's like some metal sheet ( patra ) got loose due to rusting.
the bike is 5 yrs old.

                        any cheap solution?

Dont even think of using Unicorn s Disc pads in Zma... Mounting points are entirely different...
Try A.S.K pads which is just 110 rs..... or RTR s Stock disc pads which is around 380 rs....
and there is another brand named A.N.L which is around 170 bugs one of my friend is using it from past one year No issues at all

Loose Tappet setting ensures some noise after a ride and that Tuk-Tuk sound could be very irritating at times just like loose chain set.. which is gone after 2kms of riding as the engine is cold and when you put load on it hesitates.

i em happie that there is an alternative for it ..in my place they said it will take 1 month got get d RR unit ...
