Hello PPl, I got a new ZMA R Black yesterday. Completed around 110 Kms. Few things that i wanted to bring attention is that the gear shift is very hard (Up-Shifting & Down-Shifting). Though down-shifting is somewhat convinving, I had been litreally struggling to up-shift the gears. particularly 2nd - 3rd & 4th - 5th. Let me know if this is common in new ZMA. Else suggest me for appropriate action.

I don't own a ZMA but I have done alot of kms on a ZMA. Gear shifting is one of the best parts of the riding experience, as it has a very smooth gearbox.Originally posted by elangoas View PostHello PPl, I got a new ZMA R Black yesterday. It's common with a new zma. I believe an engine oil change is due at 100 km. Have you done it? also are you following the company recommended procedure for run-in?Originally posted by elangoas View PostHello PPl, I got a new ZMA R Black yesterday. Completed around 110 Kms. The dealer told me that the engine oil is due for change in the first service. 500 - 750 Kms. Regarding the run-in, i am maintaining the bike below 4K RPM.Originally posted by v_310 View PostIt's common with a new zma. I believe an engine oil change is due at 100 km. Hard gear shift is common for new ZMAs. Change the engine oil immediatly. Dont do runin at constant RPMs. Keep varying the RPMs, keep changing the gears and gradually up the RPMs in each gear.

Also can some one tell me after how many kms on the ODO, when can i start cruising between 60 - 90 kmph.Originally posted by praveenkm View PostHard gear shift is common for new ZMAs. praveen is right... get it changed immediately - you will notice a difference in the shift! you should be fine after the first service (500 km i think?) for the run in, push up to 4-5k rpm on the 3rd / 4th gears - the important thing is to keep varying the rpm - do not ride at a constant rpm for long!Originally posted by elangoas View PostAny idea when would this ease out. 60kph cruising should not be an issue after 500 km - take it beyond that only after 1000 km...!!
I tell you - it's worth the wait main!! cruising at 80 kph (5000 rpm) is the best way to start the day for me

Thanx Dude. Any specific brand or recommendation for the engine oil to be followed for a smoother gear shift. Also plz mention the quantity as i am yet to collect the service manual from the dealer. Let me know if i can add additives also.Originally posted by v_310 View Postpraveen is right... get it changed immediately - you will notice a difference in the shift! you should be fine after the first service (500 km i think?) for the run in, push up to 4-5k rpm on the 3rd / 4th gears - the important thing is to keep varying the rpm - do not ride at a constant rpm for long!

Just stick to HH 10W30 oil. It is really good enough. The drain volume for karizma is 900ml. Make sure they filled the required amount.Originally posted by elangoas View PostThanx Dude. @elangoas, don't worry too much... a long lasting engine is a bit rough during the run in. Engine smoothness, heat and gear shift would settle down for the better. You may want to change the engine oil below 200 KMs and then continue with regular servicing schedule as per the manual.
All the best

Hyd Biker, Thanx for all your inputs. I will try changing the engine oil & see if the gear shifts improves. But this is not acceptable from a renowed bike maker like HH. Moreover this is a Honda prodict. Uni & Gladi does the gear shifts brillantly when they are just out of factory. I hope this is one of the things which makes the bike desirable.Originally posted by HydBiker View Post@elangoas, don't worry too much... a long lasting engine is a bit rough during the run in.
