    Hi,

What are the symptoms and indication of engine overheating in ZMA? I think my steed is overheating, its now 2400kms old, these symptoms I noticed-

    1) Feeling extreme heat of engine on my legs when riding in heavy traffic at 20-30km/hr in low gears.
    2) Not able to touch the engine with hands ( clutch cover and left side crank case cover ) as it is too hot even after riding 10kms in traffic this was not in case when I owned Unicorn.
    3) Feel of harshness in engine in heavy traffic ride also vibrations feel between 3k RPM to 5k RPM on foot pegs, handle bar even brake pedal.

Please suggest if it is normal with ZMA or thee is some AFR mixture setting issue ( lean mixture ) or it is just because I had Unicorn previously.

Adjust AFR to 3.5 turns counterclockwise after turning it in clockwise fully and see if you have the same symptoms.

I had felt more vibrations and engine harshness as you said. Sent the bike for it's second service and told them to replace the engine oil (with the stock one) and now my bike is back to being normal. Didn't feel heat around the legs though. If you don't remember we bought our bikes almost at the same time and I have also done roughly the same amount of kms. And I have my afr set to 3.5 as suggested here.

This should be done in hot engine? at idle RPM or need to increase RPM to 3K?

AFR is independent of engine temperature and idling rpm. I didn't have one. Zma is my first. Though rode a friend's fz and pleasure quite a bit.

Actually not, if you want to set optimal AFR, it's best to run the bike for a few kms and then do the precise adjustments while the engine is hot, that way you can adjust your idling RPM properly as well. This entails increasing idling to say 3K rpm while the engine is hot, tinkering with the AFR to find the spot where there are minimal RPM variations and that is the best AFR setting for that particular bike.
In his case, he is suffering from lean symptoms, therefore, it is best he puts the AFR to 3.5 turns to rule out leanness because it will lead to a harsh engine and a lot of heat. After that, he can set idling to 1.3K once the bike is warm.

Oh. Didn't know the relation between the AFR and the idling rpm variations. Thanks. I used to think AFR is just the balance between performance and fe in the city and one can set it to whatever the rider prefers.

^^Adding another point to AK3D, the heating up of engine in traffic could also be due to the 10w30 engine oil that is being used by Hero. In traffic, the w30 oil will not perform optimally resulting in excessive heat (riding in lower gears creates lot of heat), harder gear shifts, and engine vibrations.

Also, in heavy traffic, due to less air being flown, the heat coming from the engine will not be able to escape and makes the engine feel hot.

Problem solved...mixture was lean, spark plug was also showing white deposits. Mechanic from ASC adjusted mixture and WOW performance increased dramatically, engine is now more silent and cool. He also adjusted clutch setting as according to him clutch was on tighter side which also cause heat generation. Now, thank god everything is fine.

Problem is using engine oil other than manufacturers reccomended will void warranty. Thinking of using Motul mineral oil 20w40 though

Looks nice, would do better with spoke wheels. Strip the plastic and the rear mud flap. It would look super. Nice initiative. I am interested in building a scrambler too.

Cleaned the centrifugal filter two days back. Haven't cleaned it in 9k kms after the engine overhauling. The pics show how much dirt is trapped in there. Actually, there was little bit more dirt, but it was removed before I took the picture.

Just back after 150 kms ride in night. Headlight is very poor, what are the options available for better illumination in 35/35w bulb for ZMA?
After AFR adjusting I think mielage dropped little bit though engine is more responsive now and still I was able to touch the crankcase with hands after 150kms constant ride.
Feeling vibrations on foot pegs and under seat at 70-90 km/hr after that no vibes at all.
I changed engine oil at 500km then at 1500km now its 2600kms, should I change engine oil or wait till 2nd service at 3000Kms?
