Re: Karizma/Karizma R
I've just booked my ZMA, a consignment is on the way, right now I've chosen a black though its a hard choice and I'm having second thoughts. More importantly, I'm trying to plan the following modifications and your suggestions are quintessential to the same:
At Purchase:
Tubeless tyres(Puncture precaution): After reading this thread and Googling. It seems I can change to ZMR stock or try for some Zappers, I dont want to modify a TT to a TL, any other options?
Headlight and Pilot lamps: I heard a lot about the Osram Nightbreaker, but will the 55w void warranty? 5 year warranty seems like a lot to lose. Any good dealers in Chennai(worried about fakes). Also read Phlips LEDs are 1500 a piece way too expensive. Any good cheaper alternatives?
Horn: I asked about this and was just told get a Bosch, but no particular model/specification/model? I found Susee as a dealer through their site, is that acceptable?
Engine Oil: Wanted to change on the way back from the dealer to Shell Advance AX5(Premium Mineral 20W40) since there's a Shell Fuel Station near my place. This way I can be s sure its not fake engine oil.
Medium term: Rear Disc.
Long term: Joel modification - Big Bore, FFE(not sure).

About the oil many riders complain of excess heating and rough gear changes so I thought better change it. Even the one I'm changing to is also only a mineral based oil not synthetic. Thanks for the suggestionsOriginally posted by worrisomebear View PostTyre : Pirelli sport demon ( rear)... leave the front as mrf

Re: Karizma/Karizma R
i suggest you to change the oil every 900 to 1000kms to keep it smooth....normally people keep riding as per HH instruction of 1500-2000 kms which is wat causes roughness.. changing at under 1000kms should helpOriginally posted by rcazador View PostAbout the oil many riders complain of excess heating and rough gear changes so I thought better change it. Will do. Also why is it important to stick with the company oil? Is it because of the 10w30 standard?Originally posted by worrisomebear View Posti suggest you to change the oil every 900 to 1000kms to keep it smooth....normally people keep riding as per HH instruction of 1500-2000 kms which is wat causes roughness.. changing at under 1000kms should help

Re: Karizma/Karizma R
Use stock oil for some 25kms while keeping the run in in mind, no sudden acceleration, with moderate engine braking, and do vary speeds. After that run-in would be over, change to any tried and tested diesel oil and maintain a drain period of 1.5k kms. And the ride would last longer than the rider itself.Originally posted by rcazador View PostWill do. Also why is it important to stick with the company oil? Is it because of the 10w30 standard?

Re: Karizma/Karizma R
Isn't 25kms too short ? With my previous bikes I drove slow for 750-1500 km. Below 3000rpm is slow enough?Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostUse stock oil for some 25kms while keeping the run in in mind, no sudden acceleration, with moderate engine braking, and do vary speeds. Re: Karizma/Karizma R
My ZMA's manual had mentioned to keep 60kmph for 2000kms IIRC. But on going through the CRF230 manuals and thumpertalk threads. It seems the run in is 25kms, and the drain interval for competition use is to change oil after every run, and for normal use interval is 600Miles which translated to 1000kms.Originally posted by rcazador View PostIsn't 25kms too short ? And dont keep riding at fixed rpm's. Keep varying it. You can even take her to 6k or 7k if you wish, as long as the bike is not under any strain. Id best recommend to keep her between 4~5k, cause too much and theres chance of strain, too little and theres chance of knoking.Last edited by ashwinprakas; 05-24-2013, 08:55 PM.Motorcycling Experience:

Re: Karizma/Karizma R
Well researched, thanks bro. About the tube tyres does that tuff up sealant prevent excessive air loss during punctures, or ate tubeless tyres the only way to protect against puncture woes (less trouble post puncture) ?Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostMy ZMA's manual had mentioned to keep 60kmph for 2000kms IIRC. Re: Karizma/Karizma R
That's because CRF 230 is a dirt/trail bike. Severe conditions require an early oil change.Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostIt seems the run in is 25kms, and the drain interval for competition use is to change oil after every run, and for normal use interval is 600Miles which translated to 1000kms.
1500-1800 on a mineral oil is good enough.

True as ashwin and you say the ideal drain period is around 1500kmsOriginally posted by shoeb2015 View PostThat's because CRF 230 is a dirt/trail bike. Severe conditions require an early oil change.

for cheap yet good option
front 80/100 18" MRF zapper tubeless tyre from HH ZMR, Honda stunner/shine.
rear 100/90 18" dunlop Geocruiser tubeless
ZMR stock rear tyre, ie zapper Y, is a nightmare in sand and wet conditions. AVOID
very few TL options in 18" wheels. there are some more too, but not available most of the time.Last edited by MotionFreak; 05-24-2013, 10:31 PM.

Re-read my post please. The CRF230 comes in two models, one for competition use and one for normal road use(something similar to the Impulse).Originally posted by shoeb2015 View PostThat's because CRF 230 is a dirt/trail bike. Severe conditions require an early oil change.

The road bikes drain interval was quoted at 600Miles.Motorcycling Experience:

OK you saved me there. I was planning on zmr stock for rear as well, as the last option if nothing else is available . guess that's a bad idea. ThanksOriginally posted by MotionFreak View Postgo for tubeless tyres.
