To lauch we'd have to either throw some revs in and pop the clutch, or eat some clutch and modulate throttle till she builds up enough revs to launch.

    Assumption : Blocked fuel filter.
    check in the following order:

    1. Air filter
    2. Tank & fuel lines/petcock
    3. Carb (blocked jet or diaphragm sticky/damaged)

Stock carb in a box now, will clean overhaul it when I get the time, should I use kerosine or diesel to clean it? For the time being running on the VM28.

This sounds like choking up of the fuel filter( the part inside the tank) mesh by muck or other 'kachra' in the fuel especially if you have had water in the tank in the past. You will have to remove the whole fuel-cock from the tank to clean this. Hope this solves it, because if it doesn't, then it can be an electrical problem like the rectifier/charger(read 1800 bucks). Any way, keep us posted bro :-)

you can use petrol to clean the carb with a soft brush, even kerosene will do with a last rinse with petrol to finish the cleaning..

happens.. haven't you seen regular household bulbs fuse in a few days , sometimes even the 'vibrations' (while riding on bad roads) or a waterwash (water leaking into the brake light console) might cause bulb failure.
replace the bulb if its fused.. nothing much you can do about a fused a bulb (unless you have done some electrical mods)

Nuthin to worry. Its common in zma especially with new bikes. Somthing about the new holders. Once your bike is about a year old, it will be a rare occurance. Personal experience.

I also remember reading that powerful bulbs like the Nughtbreaker cause more heating/loss of focus with Post 2011 ZMAs? Any truth to that?

Cant say exactly about post 2011 zma-r's, but yes, generally the extra bit of heat makes a slight mark in the upper center portion of the reflector which makes your low beam just a bit diffused, but the extra power of the bulb more than compensates for it. I'm using a Philips Crystal Vision White 60W/50 since two years now without any trouble. But yeah, I have installed a two-way(four-wheeler stock) relay to get the full power of the bulb and isolate the other electricals from the extra load and also a heavy duty mica fuse.

I think I'll go for the Phillips as well. The last two days, I've had little success locating an Osram.

Yeah bro, Philips is great too. You can go for Extreme Vision. One tip: go for the normal coloured bulb and not the blue one as the blueish light will not do you any good in the rains when the roads get black when wet. The normal yellowish light will give better illumination. Have fun :-)

Philips Extreme vision 60/55w is good and it costs 550/- (got it for a 500) from Rahman Auto, G.P. Road in the same side as Satyamoorthi Bhavan. Reviews:- I have just plonked it directly without any relay, did not find any problem and using it for last 20k kms through weathers.

An aerosol carburetor cleaner like cyclo (pidilite) , after dismantling it and removing all plastic & rubber parts . Pluck a bristle off a plastic floor cleaner etc brush and use this to poke the fine holes on the jets .

Thanks guys, especially for pointing out a good shop now I won't have to roam around looking for it. About the LEDs I'd like to add them some day but at 1500 a piece they are expensive so I'll have to wait a while.
