Thanx kariznin. I read someones post somewhere in tyre forum saying it has no good wet grip, so was a bit worried and thought why not ask the zma riders themselves! Ha ha
BTW any change in FE or performance?

Its a pretty decent tire, as Kariznin said it does well on wet and dry roads, you will need to bend the linkage rod a bit since its a 110/90.

Hello,

I am considering buying a 2012 Karizma R from a dealer. I will be test riding the bike today.
Would appreciate any pointers to know what should be the main areas I should look for in case of any major problems in engine, gearbox or Suspension/chassis components.
Also the Price quoted is Rs 70000/- including RTO transfer. Is this reasonable for a 2012 model? (Dealer didnt remember the mileage on odo)

Thanx ryan. If theres any bending of any sorts involved, I'm not game. I'll go for Dunlop Geo Cruiser 100/90-18 then. Need to check this. Kariznin didnt mention it????

An official MRF dealer today, told me that running a tubeless tyre on a bike designed for TT (rims) would cause regular leaks and would in general not be worth the trouble. Is this true? His logic was that on a bike like ZMA R the rims simply arent made to support TL. It's strange logic, contrary to all I've rad on xbhp ???

The tyre I was shown was tube type which had a 110/90-18 tube ready inside it...

Yep but I've been looking for TL to overcome puncture woes at least partly. And I got plenty of great suggestions including Zapper Q tubeless model. But this chap convinced it was a bad idea.

Most people are touchy about tubeless. But it also gives problem with the stock tubeless on ZMRs. I heard it can be overcome with some kind of paste which is applied along the lining and then fitted. Available only with the better tyrewallas and not all of them.

Ryan has rightly said, the link rod needs to be bent slightly to accomodate wider tyre than stock one. Don't worry this will not do any bad to the bike. I was also very susceptible for anything like this but this was done for good and had no issues since than.
Also, it's a tube type tyre but I have been using this without tube and had no problems. Side walls on this tyre are strong enough to take daily beating on our road conditions even when used as a tubeless one.

Hi,

Bought the bike I asked you guys about a page back. Sadly due to lack of feedback from the forum, I could only to look for common points and found it good enough to make the deal.

Coming from a RTR I find the Karizma so smooth and refined, I wonder how people don't fall asleep riding it!

It's time to reach out to the experts. It was a quick ride to Narayanpur from Pune yesterday. My odo is dead and so couldn't read the kmph. But the rpm was at around 6k-7k. I did the 40km in around 35min.

The scenario: I rode this stretch earlier too. But yesterday I felt that my ZMA was struggling. There were cross-winds but I felt as if the horses are old now.

The history: Over 4 years I did 30,000km till now. The only parts replaced are front disk pads, air filter and spark plug. The last two were recommended by me. (so much for quality HH svc )
But I still persisted with them and all the services are done at authorized svc. I've taken it to a recommended mechanic. he rode and said there are no complaints and "all is well". He just mentioned that the rear sprocket may have to be replaced;but then immediately said "it's ok, not required now".

The question: Please advise if there are any parts that have to be replaced after 30k of running. I'm feeling particularly bad after I rode a 2-year old Yamaha SX-R which had butter-smooth acceleration. All the while I like(d) ZMA's acceleration and everything else, but I'm missing the refinement and all.

any help pls

rav :- Check the following, might help.

The complete diagnoisis would be... (PSR Sir and other seniors, correct me if I'm wrong).

1. Check the fuel tank, flow pipe, carb and inlet for any obstruction or any muck/dirt.
2. Adjust the chain drive (including replacement of sprocket if required)
3. Check the sparkplug if they show good combustion. (Brown tinge idicates good and will little or no oil surfaced on the orifice).
4. Clutch needs to be inspected.
5. Check for any unsual noise from the engine.
6. Ask the mechanic to check if the tappet is at right gap.
7. Right pressured tyres and check if the wheel is free from any catch (often brakes or overtightness of wheel axel).

Things to look at for refinement perspective:

1. accelerator cable..replace both the cables.. there are two in zma from acceletor perspective
2. clutch cable..replace
3. Chain sprocket complete set ( chain, and both sprockets) would need replacement at 20k i guess.. if you have not might as well check that... i think at 30k u definitely need one
4. periodic chain and sprocket cleaning. remove the front sprocket cover as well to clean chain.use diesel, wd40, 2t oil to clean chain. if you replacing the sprockets and chain cover, do this every 6k or so kms
5. engine oil drain periods around 1000kms
6. Tyres might need replacement more from safety perspective
7. Replacement of brake fluid. more from safety perspective
8. airfilter and spark plug change every 10k kms
