Yesterday went for a small ride out of the city. Have been feeling in the recent days that the bike is vibrating at higher speeds. When I was casually taking clicks of my bike, I found a small round nut in the gap of engine fins near the starter motor and cam tensioner. I took out with a little difficulty. Found another one just lying on right side. Checked all the engine bolts and found that they belong to engine-frame mounting below the tank. Luckily the clamps are still hanging, but one screw missing. Today morning fixed them. Didn't ride at speeds to check if the vibrations have gone. I hope its the main culprit for the engine vibrations.

Drained the Shell Rimula R4 oil today after 1400 kms. Found the oil to be darker than I expected. May be its because cylinder/piston being new after the rebore. I am also suspecting excessive blow-by. Will check the air filter cabin tomorrow and see if there is excess engine oil to confirm this.

As I previously reported, there is some resonance noise (humming kind of noise or like tyre noise from lorrys and busses) when I ride beyond 40-50 kmph. Yesterday when I was riding at 60-70 kmph, I switched off the engine and pulled clutch. There was no change in resonance noise, and I guess the noise is not from engine. I changed the speedo gear to eliminate the possibility of its being the culprit. Only two suspects left; one is front wheel bearing and the other is tyre noise. Wheel rotates freely without any vibes or noise when rotated with hand. Also, I have changed the front wheel bearing 10k kms back. Does a defective bearing can make noise at speeds being silent at normal speeds and causing no vibes? The other suspect is tyre noise. I am using M45 at front and remember observing this noise only after I changed the front tyre recently. I need to change the tyre and see if its the culprit.

If the tire has good gripp pattern, then tire noise is the most likely reason ...Do share the Rimula R4 experience,,esp., the bad ones(if any),since it is more important for us to learn...

Talking about these?

Update

As instructed by a friend, removed SP poured considerable amounts of OIL put a piece of cotton waste agaist the SP window, and cranked the bike till the batter went down, fixed the SP back, turned on choke and hit the starter, she came back to life. And since its been almost 2 years since my bike had a proper service, took her apart piece by piece, removed the AIS and was surprised to find water in it, I had blocked it a year back, and the water trapped in it got me confused. So decided to throw it out permanently, have the metal tube with me, will have to take it to a welder and get it welded shut, and need to close the small port on the side of the intake manifold with some M Seal.

Stock carb was overhauled by completely dismantling it and dipping every piece in petrol, the pilot was accidentally enlarged using a wire, happened while I tried to clean it. (The previous issue of idle jerks were due to the pilot being blocked). Some vermin ate part of my foam filter, need to get a replacement soon.
psr sir, there is a vaccum operated valve on the side of the stock carb with a spring inside it. its connected to a 'T' pipe from which one pipe connects to the intake manifold and the other pipe connects to the AIS thingi. Since am removing the AIS, what should I do with that port on the carb? Is it ok if I seal it?

It is called "Air cut off Valve"...it is there to stop exhaust popping when you close throttle after acceleration....here is a write up.....You can take the rubber Vacuum pipe from the left side of the carb insulator, and connect it directly to the "Air cut off valve " instead of the "T".

Hi,

I have completed two weeks with my pre owned bike. It is a breeze to ride and feels very smooth and planted especially when compared to my previous bike (RTR 180).

A short comparison with RTR :

Engine & Gear box : Not as free revving but I find the Karizma more grunty right from as low as 2-3K rpm.
Dont find the need to change gears frequently in traffic. The fifth gear is too smooth even at top end with almost no vibrations or Engine roughness.
The first four gears are short and the fifth is very tall which makes it a good ride for city.

Ride quality: The weight is a major plus point for me as I felt my RTR to be quite fidgety in crosswinds or road undulations.
Potholes and bumps are much less evident than RTR too. Riding through rains and slush more confidence inspiring.
Even after an hour long ride in bumper to bumper traffic I feel fresh and much less stressed than on the RTR.

Switch gear: Seems robust but jams up during rains or after wash. No such problem with the RTR switches.

Repairs done :

Oil changed - Castrol Activ 4T
Brake oil changed
Tail lamp Bulb replaced
Clutch cable Replaced
Clutch plate replaced - INR 1270 app.
Fork oil replaced

Tyres are pretty Ok for a 16K run bike. Battery seems to be a unknown brand (Progressive or some other name)
Fuel Efficiency not yet calculated.

Thanks for riders on this forum for sharing tips and advice which helps me to diagnose small issues myself.

First 3 gears are short, 4th n 5th are overdrive in a ZM(x). Plus, the humongous torque does lend an impression of gears being short.

^^^ Because of the abundant torque I sometimes find myself shifting at 2.5-3k rpm. Slowly going higher up in rev band and finding the bike smoother than before. Another trick I learnt from here.Another thing: I wish the brakes were as sharp as RTR. Still have to get used to brakes.

Are you talking about the front brakes?? Is the Brake Lever hard and not crisp?? if yes.. Get the brake assembly cleaned and the pump near the lever cleaned..

Another trick I learnt from here.Another thing: I wish the brakes were as sharp as RTR. Still have to get used to brakes.
Make use of engine braking. Agreed, the brakes aren't as sharp as RTR/R15, but they're quite efficient.

The front Disc brake is quite sharp, and once my ZMA did a stoppie in traffic, when a tourist taxi did a sudden stop, without brake lights .
If the braking is not good, then check the brake Pads(wear), brake disc(scoring and warp),and change brake oil to DOT4 ....
