+1.. I agree with your statement.. even I was planning to go for O-Ring chain of pulsar.. but the mechanic in the Bajaj service center himself said don't change it to Pulsar Chain.. life and durability of the ZMR/ZMA chain are much better... you can use the Karizma's chain without the chain guard.. but do take care of the chain by lubricating it.. maybe once every 500kms would do..

Also do consider throwing out the engine cowl and get a crash guard, and dont forget to double taping at front and using rubber spacers at rear.

SAE90 gear oil is the beat chain lubricant for the ZMA, lubing the chain once every 2k would be fine.

While washing the bike dont use a spray directly using a hose, wipe soap wipe would do.

Change brake pads at 10k to be on the safe side, along with SP and AF.

As a rule of thumb the AFR is best when set at 2~2.5 TURNS. But personally 4 Turns does the magic for me, but then again it may not work well for you, due the altitude difference.

Its high time we set up a FAQ post for the ZMA, so it can help new and prospective owners, by saving them the trouble of going through the whole thread.

      Cheers.
Thanks man, Definitely considering a crash guard, debating a RX100 style guard or a unicorn crash guard. Either way every service shop and even some mechanics are convinced it won't work so trying to find an agreeable mech. Found Meguiar's on amazon and yep it had some pretty good reviews, I should be receiving it soon. AFR seems to be ok at least its not a rich mix(no popping sound) so for now I'm not fiddling with it.

I saw your earlier post about how heavy the chain guard is so eventually that and the undercowl will have to go, to save weight.

In the meantime I'm beginning to understand what you meant when you said its hard to go slow on this bike

P.S. I think there's a new (free) Beta of Taptalk version 4 on the Google play store, looks way better than The current version.

The RX model is used by Sriram sir, personally I doubt its reliablility in a fall, cause its fixed using a U clamp and the bike weighs 150kgs, so either theres chance of the crash guard shifting, else theres a risk of the chassis suffering damage, cause the shock will be directly transferred to one point.

Do you have any pics? Cause the Eliminator chain guard isnt being supplied anymore, and of the FZ's is a direct fit then Im thinking of stocking it.

That was the old post I was referring to. In the original post the weight was estimated at 1.5-2 kg. Probably doesn't seem like much but when saving weight on a vehicle every gram counts (at least that's what Top Gear seems to believe). Especially since the chain is proven reliable the chain guard seems redundant.

My God.. if I save 2kgs on the ZMR.. Then it will definitely increase the power atleast a bit.. right?? Reducing the weight from 159 to 157 kgs.. that would make a noticeable difference.. what about the saree guard?? Though the saree guard protects during a fall.. just wanna know..

Why is weight reduction of ZMA being explored ?
Most people forget that the weight of the Rider can be controlled much more easily than removing parts from the bike....
Try riding a Splendor at 80 Kmph in cross wind, and ZMA...you will appreciate the difference quickly.

                          Yep weight has its advantages.
It was the earlier discussion about how durable the chain is, that made me think that if you wish to reduce weight you could drop the chain guard, since it isnt really necessary. If for instance the rider is pretty heavy, or cares for FE and handling or is making a track day bike or is jobless on a Sunday. But for the highway weight has its uses in stability.

Good....keep it that way...don't lift heavy weights and build muscle which will increase your weight, and later in life give you health problems.
