i will be taking the hid out while service.. so i dont think so its going to be an issue. good thing is no stripping of any wire. its just plug and play.Originally posted by sk8er_joe View PostAny warranty issues??
go for a H4 type HID you could check there is a thread regarding hid on xbhp.. that will help.. its called let there be light or something..Originally posted by Shadowboy View PostThanks a ton brother

Importance of A/F ratio
after my second service my bike had become exceedingly harsh at high revs. now after the tappet adjustment drive, the mechanic had set the idle rev very low.(close to 1.2K RPM when cold). Now when the engine heated up this reduced to 1K RPM and this caused vibrations at the 7K mark. So i did a test. I redlined the bike several times at 3rd and 4th gear and you know your engine is starving if the instead of one artificial cut off your engine gasps 2 or 3 times at > 10 K RPM. So what I did is I set the hot engine idle RPM to the recommended 1.3K and this should translate to a cold engine RPM of 1.5K. Then went for a redline drive again and the engine feels amazingly smooth.
Still sputtered once near redline but is much much better. Also performance has improved. A little more tuning required to set the A/F just right for performance.
my explanation: 1. These SS guys don't know much. 2. They tune the vehicle for mileage only. In my case he was asking me what RPM he should set it to. And he was surprised as I asked him to increase it. But later when I went to take the vehicle he had used his judgement anyway. 3. The idle RPM is set when the engine is cold and falls by .2 to .3 K RPM by the time the engine reaches operating temp.
ppl with more knowledge on this subject kindly add to my findings. I am doing all these adjustments based on feel and without tuning equipment. Also all my trials have been done at late night and I still need to check these settings at day (hotter air).

@ digislayer: not very impressive man. I don't think they are worth the moolah when the 50 bucks one does a decent job and if you just add a resistor you will get some decent life too. Man I got to buy a multimeter and a soldering iron.Originally posted by R15Rocks View Post@Digislayer: Here are pics of the Yamaha LED Position lamps as requested by you:

Also got to agree with santoosh, 2 60/55 silverstars are not good enough. I do need to adjust my beam for better throw but still the illumination isn't safe enough (though this is way better than stock). HID chahiye. Also for safety's sake throw away those 35/35's and get 2 60/55's at the very least + 2 energy saving LEDs. No battery probs and way better in city illumination.

uhh why not buy the digi clock that comes in the centre of the dash of "tata indica" ? its got a white display and is very readable. working voltage should be the same as that of a bike .. since cars too run on 12v batteries.Originally posted by santoosh View Post102 Degrees . The fan comes on at that temperature.
Have seen it on the race R15 used by yamaha and anya.
For a common man , its not needed. I would have loved a Clock in the Display. I miss it a lot. V V helpful while touring.

just a thought..
@ Navnish
bhai , how much was the shipping charge for the HID ?? and like why 4300K ? wouldnt 3000K be much better in range (penetration and fog conditions) and less prone to cop nuisance

how many times did you get harrased by cops
?

Idle Setting
@Archi: The SS guys you've gone to don't seem to know even the basics of idle setting. Leave alone for R15, for ANY bike, the engine rpm is always set only on warm engine (need not be excessively redlined, even a simple 1-2kms.run will do). As for your setting, you have done it the correct way, by running it first&then setting. If you observe, the manual has also specified 1.3-1.5K for the idle setting. Lower setting would result in knocking at low speeds&sputtering at high speeds as you know. However, having a higher setting which helps in performing better, would eat away into fuel efficiency&also as the engine is operating at a higher rpm, some mechanics say the engine life will be reduced! I would say don't cross 1.5K no matter what.
I have a few questions:
Your experiment seems to be only with the idle setting. How do you propose to set the A/F ratio?
Since R15 is a fuel injected vehicle, I doubt if there is any setting which can be done like on the carbs for increasing mileage? Maybe Joel can clarify on this.

. took a 4300 as it actually solves my purpose . always wanted white lights
I am planing to get a 3000k replacement bulb also so that will have two bulbs so that the fog problem will be solved.

i don't use the hid at all in the city "not even by mistake" ... the light is too bright for the city...
once a cop got suspicious and asked me why only one light is working .. told him that the other one is blown..that was a close call.

Thanks for that R15rocks, my doubt seems to be right..they look like higher wattage LEDs. If they REALLY are high watt LEDs, 500Rs is decent as they sell those LEDs at around 250Rs per piece in the electronic markets. But a more closer photograph would helpme decide, as the LED isnt clear in the 3rd pic. And how come they're blue?? :|Originally posted by R15Rocks View Post@Digislayer: Here are pics of the Yamaha LED Position lamps as requested by you:

@archi: Yeah dude.. I agree our job is much more decent and VFM, i've been running my own DIY LEDs on the bike since around 600kms already
I've already mentioned the procedure previously in this thread.
And regarding your Idle RPM, howdoes it help the engine at higher RPMs? Not saying that you're wrong, but I just wanna learn
I always thought idle RPM is the "minimum pull of the accelerator cable by a mechanical screw) Or is it more than just that?

@Digislayer: You're right-they are higher wattage LEDs. I compared them to a 50Rs.LED (one of the mechanics at the SS had a local disco LED) and it was 2-3 times brighter. I'll put up a closer pic.(HydBiker-need your help againOriginally posted by digislayer View PostThanks for that R15rocks, my doubt seems to be right..they look like higher wattage LEDs. ). They are available in white&blue both priced at the same-500Rs.per bulb.

@rachi
Idling has nothing to do with bike feeling harsh at 7 plus or getting smoother with increasing it. Its just in the mind.
Set the idling to 1300 to 1400 . Its best between that range. If it keeps increasing and decreasing , then u have an air leakage somewhere , check ur manifolds or clean up your air filter.
U said the ss tune it for Mileage .. Did they tune urs ? If so how ?
U mean setting idling low as tuning for mileage ?
