hmmm... a list of comments about my post while I was away.

Well, guys, I think Yamaha gave us a great product and also that they are working on listening to customers and attending them in a positive manner. The problem is, as Archi said, with the after sales service.

Also, I don't think there is a major problem with my bike other than the Valve clearance setting, that Yamaha recommended as "check every 6000 kms" but that was not done during the 3rd service by the ppl at the SC.

Such things do come under "proper maintenance" part. This is a machine and it needs to be attended to properly at each service interval.

Also, I am not among the ppl who rip the bike... or push it for top speed. I rarely do that. May be once or twice in a long ride on an empty highway. I don't revv high in every gear even on highways... except for occasional bursts... My comfortable speed on highways is 90-110 kmph when no traffic or disturbances... when on a GQ it can be 100-120 kmph and I take my time to reach there - most of the times picking up speed from 70 kmph in the 6th gear.

Pals from experience ...You never ever rip a machine at > 80% of its max performance .. EVERYTIME. You should have a mix of both happy rides and go full throttle one's.

Just think about it even we cant concentrate, the way we should when ripping it that hard on Indian roads.

So enjoy what you have bought, take good care of her, keep your passions burning towards her and i am sure she will serve u long and good.

Rest for minor issues, they happen and are part of the game.

you have warranty man .. what's the worry. you won't enjoy your ride today if you think of tomorrows probs.

and of 197 pages of text on R15 discussion here, honestly we would find it hard to list out 15 major/minor issues, which have impacted a majority of owners.

Some issues are handling based, some are Genuinely technical, and some occur due to driving age(routine issues).

Also, never forget no amount of product testing can replicate real world scenario. What does matter is how a company deals with issues when they occur, which in my opinion is the biggest drawback of Yamaha at the moment. There lower level heirarchy9read : dealers and there mechanics) are neither qualified nor willing enough to take the responsibility to fix an issue.

I redlined ur bike on all gears execpt on 6th gear during our trip to pargi.I belive even BOOO redlined your bike tht day.

@HydBiker&Harsha: I think that riding style is good. I'm following it most of the time too. Changing gears at around 4-5K RPM in traffic&5-6K RPM on empty roads. Bike seems to pick up speed without sputtering even from 40 or so in 6th.

@Suhail: You're right-overall it is a niche product, though minor niggles are in all vehicles. Like Archi&HydBiker say, it is mostly due to the after-sales service&attitude of the SS guys.

@Archi: Thats what I was trying to tell you-tuning idling RPM does not affect fuel flow directly. The SS guys think that if they tune it to idle low it'll drink less petrol. Thats not true. You can't go below a particular setting or the engine will die down when at signals. In the effort to keep it idling people will have the throttle open a wee bit&that'll again start drinking fuel! I don't believe mileage can be set for an FI vehicle. The only thing for optimizing mileage is to eliminate dust from the air filter, clean the pipes etc.but there is no power or economy 'setting' as such like the carbs have.
What you have done is increase the idling, which is helping your engine to get warm quicker, in turn helping in achieving a higher top whack. However, I believe it is going to eat away your engine life as well as FE(no.2 not a big issue, but no.1 is). Why don't you try this: Set the idle rpm to 12-1300, go for a 5km.ride at normal speed, then try to check the top whack? I believe you can still achieve the same top speed provided the engine is adequately warmed up.

R15 Mods

Ladies (if any) & Gentlemen

I present to you here a Modded R15. I was almost in tears when I saw this baby... They're even planning a colour change after it visits the RTA for the registration number...

Now, can someone list out the mods carried out on this bike... please...

Let me try
1) Alloys & Tires changed. Rear - 150/80 x 15, Front - 120/?? x ??
2) Dual Free Flow Exhausts. It was loud with two sounds
3) Dual HID kit
4) LED Strips everywhere...
5) Tail Lamp Assembly
6) Security System
7) Rear Mud Guard Cut to show the arse
8) Rear Suspension changed to some imported piece to increase height
9) Huge modification to the swing arm to fit the tire & the suspension. A tire hugger is planned for and are awaiting stock
10) Front indicators
11) Handlebar weights removed to push in the hand grips
12) Yamaha Logos Snatched and bike scratched
13) Rear Disk Calipers scratching the alloy Drum
14) Big Horns... see the red colour on the RHS beside the engine...















All I could do was pity the owner! He handed it over to these guys and they screwed it up heavily! The engine malfunction light was blinking and they're not bothered about it even when I cautioned them twice...

I just hope the owner likes all these mods!

What a waste man! I've seen some well modified Pulsars at Poona Automobiles, Koti. One really looked almost like a Gixxer. Now, that was something worthwhile! The max modification I can imagine to an R15 is maybe fitting in an aftermarket exhaust (not 2!), fatter tyres, tyre hugger, HID. Rest of it-the bike is pretty sporty as it is.

btw it seems that the front disk has been changed to sth else .. it doesnt look like the R15's disk

anyhow a modded bike is never near to the real replica or what so ever. and after such a catastrophe ... heck ... i dont have words for this

so just consider it a bike getting modded to a dream bike be it a pulsar, cbz, apache or the R15

and more money doesnt mean more mind has again been proved


aren't majority of R15 buyers like this ? i mean not to this extent but they'd LOVE to change the tyres and what not. Have a look at the orkut R15 community ... ugh.... they come up with brilliant theories. queries like "fitting the tyre n swingarm of fz16 to r15 " etc etc are dominant.

Lol, whats amazing is: this guy hasn't tried to replicate a bigger bike-he just messed up what was good enough in a brand new bike! God knows how much he paid for spoiling his new bike! I guess I'll ask him how much he spent, coz I'm bound to see him pretty soon in Hyd. What a disgrace!
