I have seen 2 cases of radiator leaks because of wrong and/or louder horn fitments. Guys, be careful....

I have seen an R15 where they fit a horn near the RHS inner panel gap... the same place from where the hot air from radiator comes out.. and some uncovered regular wires used to connect the horn... this guy is sure to blow out something soon!

Missing the clock in every ride... the problem is that the clock needs to be weather proof and not easily flickable by some idiot when parked...

I even came to a solution of using a regular water-proof watch tied to the handlebar (the space between the clipon's) but the tank bag is obstructing the view.

Abt your close call with police, I noticed that many police men looking at my bike skeptically when I am on low beam... I thought many times that they are not aware of the details approved by the RTA and might be thinking that both the lights should be on!

Right panel with net inside

Dear all yesterday I recieved a call from SS dat yamaha is changing right front panel for FOC I asked wat is wrong with current one am having they told me like the new one is with grill ....I went to the SS as it is FOC ...It was nothig they removed the right front panel and removed inside portion and fixed with another with a grill/net inside now when u put anything inside that gap in front panel it will not fall inside...

Guys, I got a call from Yamaha Regional Service Head (may be I screwed up his designation but it at least says something!) Mr Satyanarayana. I met him earlier at Pearl Yamaha. This was two weeks back and we fixed up an appointment to meet - Saturday morning.

My bike was run over 8700 kms and had the following list of problems -

1) Very tight clutch... jerky gear shifts
2) harsh engine at certain RPM's like Archi said... beyond 6k till about 9k
3) Top speed - struggles beyond 122 kmph and in a very long & open stretch it can sometimes do 130 if I shift from 5th to 6th after 123/124 kmph
4) Fuel economy - it used to give me 42-44 kmpl before second service... then it suddenly fell to 27 kmpl... that's when I met Mr Satyanarayana for the first time... they did some wheel adjustment & since then the bike is giving me about 35-37 kmpl... struggles to even touch 40kmpl.
5) Air pressure leak from rear tire after the change of alloy during the last service
6) Pass switch not working after my recent fuse blow out
7) both front & rear wheels tighter than it should be
8) noise from the fairing between 3 & 4K rpm... after the left RVM was adjusted during the last service it started to come now and then and after running it for a few thousands of kms it became regular
9) tighten chain & lube it

First thing - I was very glad that Yamaha people are interested in solving our issues with this premium bike. Following is what has happened.

1) Clutch cable checked.. was very tight. replaced it. lot better now. Rs 88.xx. Jerks in shifting gone but gear gets stuck in Neutral when shifting from 1st to 2nd
2, 3 & 4) They find the bike to be good, there won't be anything to do on this bike for tuning or mileage... was their response... but I know the problem exists... I should either get good top speed or better mileage... else, there's something wrong... so I am not very convinced about the outcome.
5) We decided to take this up in the 4th service that's due very soon... the wheel needs to be immersed in water to check the leakage
6) they checked it and replaced the LHS switch gear...(under warranty) a guess is that the pass switch would have got a loose wire that got short and the fuse blew away!!!
7) Front wheel brake pads had a lot of dirt... pads cleaned with pressured air and then sand papered. Rear - front sprocket area had dirt that had to be cleaned. I am not sure about how better it is now... but I was told that wheels with disc brakes will not rotate freely and that this is normal... though I see the Ravi Kiran's P220's rear wheel rotates much freely than mine... I have checked with the FZ's & Gladi's in showroom and he front wheel is not as free as the ones without disc brakes...
8) They tightened the screws... result has to be checked as I rode only in city traffic after that.
9) Chain tightening left for the service... lubed it.

In addition to this, they got my RHS inner panel changed to the one with mesh. A service charge of Rs 10 was charged for this. Also, it seems they have set a deadline of December 31st for this and the panel might not be changed after that.

Now, that's a good job Yamaha... I am glad but the most important aspect is not addressed... so I am gonna come back. I guess my bike needs Valve clearance to be checked.

@HydBiker: After reading about yours&Archi's&many other guys'problems, I am more or less coming to a conclusion that the R15 is not like what we read about before buying it. In the sense, we thought it was a machine to be ridden hard&kept on the boil most of the time. In other words, a machine that supports the fearless. Unfortunately, it seems like we need to treat it like a baby&curb our desires in the interest of maintaining the vehicle for a long period with less hassles!
Last night I went for a ride on KBR Road with a pillion&by the end of the road it had only reached 107kmph, with shifting at around 9K RPM!
I may consider selling it off if the Ninja comes in soon enough

R15 Queries

@hydbiker: p.s PM me his number. i don't need it for now but seeing all these complaints i think i'll be needing it in future.

I want help from all of u.My R15 has clocked 444kms on the odo in 5days and will be crossing 500km mark by tommorow.So now can i take her to 7.5k rpm(as refered in the manual) as i m not giving her for the first servicing now.i have thought of taking to SS when she reaches 1000kms and should i take her to 7.5k rpm mark gradually or can i freely rev till there and aso can i give her ocassional bursts of 8k-8.5k rpm and also my bike has become a little harsh when i take her above 4250 rpm in 4th and 5th gear,its very little but the harshness is there and it was not there till 150kms. And there are very minimal viberations also.Are all these things normal,will all these things get sorted out in the 1st servecing? Sorry for so many questions,but only you guys can as i love my baby1 alot as you guys do.Will be waiting eagerly for all of your advices..till then Ride safe!

Got a Bike Cover. All of you can stop by a Castrol Bike Zone and buy their Bike Cover for Rs 299. It fits well. Tried it out in SC and then bought it. It even has a book sized pouch and it could be possible to carry the cover when touring.... if we manage to fold the cover properly!

I strongly recommend oil change at 500kms for longer engine life and engine smoothness. After oil change, you can take her up to 7500rpm. Short bursts of 8-8.5k are also fine provided they are really short Avoid revving your engine for long durations in this high rpm range especially until you are done with the run-in period.

You're right AceHunter, we should respect our bike&not rip it all the time, I don't do that myself&have not had any problems in the last 4K kms, but still, I don't feel it can take the whip as much as all the reports said it could!
As for treating women, how many people are soft with their women?

Lol, luckily my babe is giving me 43+in city, due to soft treatment, but looking at the others who have used the whip, I feel your policy is better-I don't want her to turn into a Devil!

@ everybody who replied : 1. I thought turning the idle screw has something to do with increasing fuel supply and not only to pull the throttle cable.
2. it's not in the mind as the engine is way smoother now. And the sputtering has reduced while redlining which is a clear indication of better fuel flow. The same distance I could touch 110 in before, I can touch 118 now.
3. My FE may have died and I don't care much about that either way. I would have bought a reva otherwise.
4. I assume the service center guys think that reducing the idle revs is the way to go for better FE. That's the only kind of tuning they know.
5. The air filter was cleaned recently and I don't think I have any leaks in the manifold. (how would I know if I had one ? how do i check ?)

I am just starting to mess with the bike and have no tuning knowledge as such. So I would appreciate it if ppl with more experience would confirm/correct my findings.

ripping and raping are entirely different..as long as you take good care..riding hard should not give u a problem..if u want to rip at every traffic signal u will regret it...drive fas on good empty roads where teh engine will be allowed to work happily.

hehe .. it's a bike and will have it's set of probs. But I still feel it's the best one available in the indian market although I may go for the ninja too. And don't worry about riding the bike hard, just rip it as you want to. Except the chain prob I don't think there are any other serious issues. I am sorting out my probs one by one and if you notice, they are not probs with the bike but probs with after sales. Also I am a bit picky about stuff which most ppl overlook so possibly I find more probs .. .

And for the other guy : the pads should not touch the rotor. Put some oil in the oil seal behind the disc and then loosen the caliper and adjust it correctly. And NEVER EVER REMOVE THE BLACK RUBBER BUSH. It's a pain putting it back requiring you to remove the calipers and the rear wheel.

@ santoosh: this is yamaha's first FI bike so I don't think they know how to tune it. They just reduce the idle RPM and think they have tuned it for mileage. i guess we should start visiting Authorized Maruti Service Centers for service. they should do a better job as they have largest experience with FI.
