      Well one thing is sure, the mineral engine oil that we use will harden ANY rubber material. So it's a strict no-no to engine oil on the drive chain. Refer wikipedia for further clarification(That's the best we can do for freelance and unbiased information).

      And regarding your doubt, MAYBE kerosene doesn't harden rubber..i'm not sure about that, why risk? And maybe the oils we use is different from what they use abroad in terms of composition..just a few wild guesses you know, I still dont wanna take any risks

        Christmas time

        time for Santa's Update

        After 7250 Kms 3 services,

        The bike is getting harsher the more im doing my touring.
        changed oil again today , Vibes have increased ..Giving me the pulsarish feel now.
        R15's true colours eh ?

        Crazy thing is giving me more and more mileage as i tour.

          Indeed... Petrol and Engine Oil harden the oil seals and eventually make them to crack. Kerosene doesn't affect he oil seals.

          yes, my bike is due the 4th service soon and it had mostly toured... don't even use it for regular city driving. It has become (sounds) harsher (no vibes) and some people are saying that the engine has opened up!

          Good. Your Crazy thing is helping your pocket and the environment. Now take it out for Euro V testing

            Im actually getting 48/49kmpl on tours after optimizing the afr.
            Min speed=100kmph atleast..
            I need 2 change it again.

              I'm struggling to touch 40 kmpl after the 2nd service... got over 40kmpl in the recent tour bur I didn't do my actual speeds! was doing 80-90kmph kind of speeds or 50-60 ish in 5th gear!

              Used to get 42-45 kmpl before that even when I maintain 100-110 as regular speed with bursts and even on continuous 120+ for 2-3 hours on the GQ.

              Curious to know how you've got the AFR set... pls let me know!

                Got the 3rd service done at Pearl Yamaha. Fixed the LED Position lamps&some other accessories.
                Replaced plastic visor for Rs.128 as it was too scratched.
                Only cleaning spray was used for the chain-no Yamalube. However, smoothness is felt for sure.
                Mechanic accidentally damaged Engine Oil Level Gauge accessory, so they replaced it for me free of cost (Rs.550)!
                Will post pics of LED Position lights after figuring out how to resize them. I feel they're worth Rs.1000 (500*2). Have to see what the cops have to say about it!
                As for mileage, I'm getting 45+ consistently now with Extra Premium. 50% highway&50%city riding. In pure city riding it gives 43, pure highway is 48.

                      the bike should give better mileage if it burns fuel more efficiently and on touring you are mostly in overdrive (6th gear/6500 odd RPM) so mileage get's better and better .. Check for tappet noise if the engine is harsh only at th 7K mark and smoothens out at about 9K.

                        Not much tappet noise . Changed the oil again today ,
                        Fourth service will give it in a weeeks time.
                        Need many things to be done this time,
                        1.Opening up of the Fork, Noise started after my OffRoading adventures.
                        2.Will get my injectors cleaned.
                        3.Change of spark plug and air filter .
                        4.. And... Nothing else i guess

                          Spark Plug & Air Filter need a change at the 5th service anyway...

                          Didn't you forget the Oil Filter?

                          Getting injectors cleaned??? you're up for a big task!

                            Injector--I ll do it myself if needed , Not much of an ask.

                            Just cleaned the oil filter today , Looks neat enough to last a little longer. i have a new one to replace anytime.

                              Do take step by step pics when you carry out the task of cleaning injectors Santa, many people like me will need a manual sort of thing to do the same and you'd do a great help

                              @All:

                              I have a container full of "HP Thandaraja-Ready to use coolant" with me at home. We bought it for use in my Santro and there's a lot left over..can I use it to top the R15's coolant reservoir too? It's almost near the low mark now..

                                Guys 2-3 genuine inputs

                                1)ECU upgrade comimng soon and not costing very high

                                2)Lighter swingarm

                                3)Something abt air filter (no exact details knwn)

                                4)A low end R15 ..Air cooled engine,drum brake at rear and the likes.
                                Aesthetically will look the same and will cost 1-20 k less
