Try getting it cleaned once with kerosene, then lube&adjust the slack perfectly.
Sometimes even after doing all this the chain still makes noise, this is due to the sprocket, try getting that lubed&if necessary put some grease also in the sprocket, but not on the chain.
I don't know about warranty on the chain. It seems to be a wear&tear item.
I was going through the manual and found out that chain is not covered in warranty. Will get the chain checked in showroom this weekend , the price of new chain is ~2200Rs.

It’s the chain sprocket that needs to be replaced. There are several reasons for having this problem. If the chain is not regularly cleaned and lubricated (specially after rains and dusty off road rides) and not properly adjusted when loose etc and etc.... then on a longer run... this problem occurs now and then and the chain sprocket gives way.

However i still recommend you to get your chain adjusted properly in SS showroom and get it lubricated properly and run for few miles and see for yourself if this problem re occurs, if not.... good to go for many more miles if yes..... time for a change.

My bike has done close to 18000 kms and the chain gets loose now and then and makes some weird noise. Upon check it was revealed that the chain sprocket is gone for a toss and needs to be replaced. The adjustment to tighten my chain in pretty weird now in my bike...one side is too loose and the other side is too tight... 2400/- here in Bangalore as a matter of fact i have heard different prices from different service centres here in bangalore...god knows why we have such pretty inconsistent pricing theory here in bangalore

Santa calling 123.....Request Santoosh to tell you guys more about it.

@Reuterian: Exactly the same problem with the chain on my bike one side too loose where as other side too tight. There is loud tak tak sound at lesser speeds but at higher speeds there is absolutely no sound. Have you replaced your chain/sprockets?

No... i am bit too lazy now to do that also, i am currently aided with a big financial whirlwind having tons of debt floated in the market... waiting for some windfall gains to help me fix my bike

However i have belted the bike black and blue and it deserves the chain sprocket replacement....on the other hand side - i pledge to take proper care of the chain sprocket this time once fixed but have no idea when .

              • @ 4k chain issue guy

When at the SC next time , Ask the guys to remove the wheel , Drop the chain and sprokets and get a through wash done , fix it back , align the wheel and adjust the chain back again.

Chain n sproket takin a toss @ 4k is kind of unbelieveable.
Mine has done 19k and im on stock setting still .No sound , no nothing,

Make sure to lube ur chain every 300-500kms in dry and in rains as frequently possible.

Do chek the sproket teeth fo wear and tear ,or damage due to stones or sand .

Also clean the front sproket cover , most of the times , the muck gets accumulated there and creates noise.

The wheel alignment needs to be Pakka , else ur chain is bound to go sooner than normal.

What no.is your chain adjusted on? Mine is at around 2.5&I have done about 11K kms.
I think it goes upto 6, after that we have to replace the kit, right?

By Pakka wheel alignment, u mean the chain tensioners at both sides of the wheel should be at the same number rt?

                    Comment

                    • Yes very much both sides need to be @ the same number, see that the wheel is also aligned properly .I mean its not towards the left or right or left . The gap between the swingarm on both sides needs to be pretty much the same.

Oh yeah , The chain problem guy , u have a stock tire or a 120/130 big big tire ?

                      • @santa,

i think i need to go for the chain sprocket change...it is getting loose now and then haven’t checked for the wear and tear though, but i guess honestly it needs to be changed as i have not been taking proper care.... also all the SC guys in Bangalore have suggested me the same.

Regarding the advice given below removing the wheel......... it seems to be a good idea.

In my case i would like you to see my bike once...but dont know when and how i can meet you, as now a days we are not going out for any offline meets.

                          Hello Santoosh,
I am the guy who regularly does the cleaning of the chain from the service guys. I use to lube the chain every 500-800km
And I have never taken my bike into rains.
Also when I keep he bike on main stand and rotate the rear wheel then I feel that there is a different slack in different position.
I mean when I rotate the wheel a bit the gap of the slack is more and then at some point is it very less.
Also the service guys has done the wheel alignment but still the problem is there. At slow speed the noise is very loud with ‘tak-tak’ sound.
Also the service guys says that run you bike for some 5-6k and then the chain will be changed as the life of the chain is 12k only.
The local mechanic says that the service guys had done the wrong alignment and thus the problem. If you do not get your chain replaced then this will ruin your entire sproket.

                          • Woah neat co incidence... My chain gave up today... it was on the last tensioner level and the ODO reads about 19k + KMs
The rear sprocket shows definite wear and tear due to the muck and sand!

I am quite ok with the fact that it lasted this much, as I have been riding too hard and too much!

Has anyone tried using an aftermarket chain tensioner on the R15? I was kinda wondering if I should go that route as the SVC here doesnt have the chain+sprocket kit...
