  • Guys, a Question: One of my friends was suggesting to replace the R15 back wheel with the broader FZ wheel. Though, I understand that tampering with tested machinery is not advisable. However, was curious on the consequences of the same. Can you please explain how the bike would behave with the above modification?

            • Alright something really scary happened about 30 mins ago, Since I barely get time to ride on empty roads these days, getting off from work at 4 was a welcome change and I was leaning hard. On one of the corners, I was leaning blind which I shouldn't have been doing, and suddenly a dog was in my way while I was leaned way over going at about 70kmph. I panicked and grabbed the front brakes which straightened the bike up but it was a very scary experience and I could've easily low-sided as well. Well lucky me!

Came back home and googled up what expert riders across the worl have to say about braking WHILE leaning and all say the same thing, 'don't brake, if you have to brake use the rear NOT the front.'

I've had this problem with the rear brake lever that it is too high up for riding with the toes on it so I don't ride with my foot on the lever, hence when in panic situations, I don't have time to lift my foot up from under the lever and use the rear brake.

Any way that the rear brake lever can be adjusted to be a bit lowered?

@shivanshu bhaiyya : awesome experience bro, I loved reading it. And like jd sir, I too am amazed by your mileage....I'm a good 10k kms behind you and I got my bike just 2 months after you got yours.

              • @Parth: Glad to know you're ok.
The brake lever height can be adjusted, & I'm really surprised you didn't know that. Get it adjusted at the earliest, its a 2 min job.

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

its good to hear that u are fine it was your luck that you dont fall but keep in mind that dont apply front breaks as u might skid try to pump your lever or go with abs they will help in pumping as i am using them and never face that any problem moreover they help in rainy season to protect u from getting disk lock problem

Can you tell how much the ABS will cost?

I asked at the service center about the adjustment of gear lever as well as the brake lever and they told me that only the gear lever is adjustable. Kinda confused why they lied .

Anyways, will get it adjusted as soon as I het some time off. Thanks for the prompt reply bro

The ABS you're talking about, is it mechanical ABS or electronic? If mechanical then sorry, I'm not interested as I've tried a bike equiped with that thing and it just wouldn't stop, the disc brakes were acting like drums. I guess I'm used to r15's braking and this was a pulsar, but then also how bad can the pulsar's stock braking be?

I'm under the impression that the mechanical ABS which is fitted on the caliper of the disc just lessens the braking of the bike so the disc doesn't lock up simply coz the brakes aren't any good.

If you're talking about an electronic ABS, like the one found in fireblades then I'm all ears and would definitely want to get it on my bike.

Me and my buddies have been using Motul 5100 semi synthetic oil and find it very good. I personally have been using that oil since 2k kms and currently my bike is at the 8.2k kms mark. Motul has performed flawlessly, high revv responce is much better and gear shifts are slick. Add to that, this oil doesn't go bad even after 3700kms of riding (that's the max I've ridden on it and the service date was coming up so didn't test it any further)

                          • Hi guys,

I learned here that many R15 users have switched to different engine oils other than yamalube. Can this change be done in SC during free service? can we actually buy a can of different oil and give it to them to change? or would they only use yamalube ?

It could be a faulty actuator or master cylinder as well, but even that would require replacement of the hydraulic fluid.

I took the bike to SC they took off the back wheel cleaned the whole thing and did some lubrication and assembled it back..they asked me to check the wheel movement after that and i found it to be satisfactory. Once i came home after 7-8 km ride, i checked again and found the freeness to be reduced. Also when i touched the rear brake disc it was extremely hot and i almost burned my finger..it was hot enough to slowly evaporate if theres a drop of water on it. I use front brakes most (may be 70:30) ratio. Is it normal for rear disc to get that hot? or is it coz pads touching the disc more than necessary even when brakes are not applied

No dont do it Ilanjai, R15 tyres is the best, any alteration will affect on the riding, stability, and balance of the machine. SO as per me you should not change it.

Parth thank God you were saved, consider yourself lucky, and next time please first know how to do panic breaking while leaning, listen to what Tibby has to say. never apply panic brakes to front wheel while leaning bro, and read the 3rd edition of xBhp mag, Old Fox Sir has detailed explanation of panic braking in there, it would help.

                                Thanks for liking my review
