Great brother good that its fixed now.

I had to change my rear brake pads recently and the bike has done only close to 5000 KMs. The service engineer who did the pre service checking found out that the pads have worn out and needed replacement. I understand that its odd for the brake pads to be worn out this early. The mechanic said either i might be keeping my foot on the brake pedal while riding or the brakes might be in a slightly applied position (not enough to lock the tires). I am careful that i dont keep my foot on pedal while riding and also i apply front brakes mostly compared to rear one, mechanic also said front brakes does not require replacement and would be good for a few more 1000 KMs.

Finally, the pads were changed and when i came home i found that the rear brake disc was slightly hot. I thought it might be due to the braking i did during the ride. to confirm it i placed the bike on paddock stand and tried spinning the wheel and found it to be bit stiff, the wheel was not turning as free as expected. I turned on the engine and pushed to first gear and the wheel started spinning however when i applied clutch, with in 2-3 second the rear wheel stopped spinning.

Is it because the break pad being in slightly applied position ? how can we check that? I have noticed that its virtually impossible to find gap between disc and pad so I am not sure if its in contact. Yamaha manuals give no information about adjusting the disc brakes. Would it be a good idea to take it to the SC?
As any other moving component on a bike, even disc pads need some run-in period. Your Disc Plate got hot and the wheel would be a bit stiff while spinning due to the new pads, it will be alright after a few kms brother, so dont worry about it.

There is only one type of brake pads supplied by Yamaha in their SC now. the MRP on the packer was 699 RS. And there is no guarantee that it is nissin manufactured pad. Yamaha could be sourcing it from an Indian manufacturer made to their specifications.

Thanks for the reply buddy. but you are just reading second part of the query. when you combine the current situation with the early replacement of the brake pad I had to do, don't you think its not a normal situation just caused by new brake pads?

Yeah I know its not normal, but then your bike just did 5000kms right... and what service engineer told was right, as it happened with me as well. My rear brake pads changed at 7000km and now my bike has done 18500kms but the second disc pad is still running strong brother

          • @SID13 - you definitely have an issue. The wheel should rotate freely, whether new or old pads. Get the caliper pistons/pins checked.

There is a slight adjustment that can be done at the foot lever, minor, like a few mm. Bring the lever slightly up. That should release the static pressure on the brake.

Else reduce the brake fluid from the reservoir and check. This is a cause for concern.

after riding this bike there's no feel of ridin any other....
dint have much probs till now....except to chain noise (that seems usual enuf)..

its returnin me a constant avg of 42-45kmpl....
                    I'm lovin it...
all smiles no complaints till now...

Yes, There is. I am using Formula 1 Wax and Waxpol(though i think this is useless, never have achieved good results with this one). Forumula 1 is awesome. It waxes and cleans the dirt and grime as you wash - gives excellent shine and showroom finish.

Along with this i use chamois leather to clean my bike so that you dont get scratches when you use normal cloth.

For rims i use kerosene and wipe it. Paint is still intact on the rims so nothing to worry too.

Regarding the chain noise - clean your chain and lube it with Motul Lube that too will disappear.

                      • @xsz - there is an adjustment screw where the brake lever ( foot brake ), meets the actuator, or the brake master cylinder. It can allow for slight adjustment to the angle of the brake lever.

Btw, got the bike back from Service. The front has become nice and crisp now, no wallowing in potholes or anything, and after the tappet setting, the engine is pulling cleanly to 9000+ rpm... The thrill is back!!

                        • Dude the same question on maintaining the bike shiny askedy by me got a reply from one of us (R15 owners). Maintaining it wit frequent teflon coating and waxing our babe by us wit good stuff makes bike sparkling! the main thing is teflon coating!!!! and beware do not use dusted cloth or hard and waste cloth for cleaning...always use good, soft and new cloth! after all its for our babe! so dont mind spending 10rs for new cloths! And if the bike is full of dust and muddy try to clean it up wit water instead of wiping it wit dry cloth!. Guess you know what all i said but jus took some interest to remind you! pingggg!!!! Happy ridin!!!!! proud to a R15 owner!!!!!!

Don't use any other petrol other than BP normal. Other additive based petrols like IOC Xtra Premium / BP Speed are not meant for the R15's engine.
