  • Hello! happy twister owners!

I bought my twister way back in june. the pearl nightstar black one. done 11k kms.
    during run-in my mileage was 48 -50.
now i get a standard of 63. ocasionally 65. - in the city.
    70+ sure on highway.

    and regarding the engine oil. plz dont rely on the service station. they jus top it up. i have had big issues wid silicon honda basvangudi {Bangalore}
I change engine oil myself every 2.8 to 3k kms. and yeah i use a 20w40 one.

i need suggestions on the issues with the number-plate (front). makes a racket every now and then. :-(

interesting to see you have clocked 11k.I think you are senior most among us in terms of distance your twister has done.could you tell us about total maintenance cost so far other than oil change?regarding number plate,my honda dealer have put the Unicorn model number plate which is doing fine so far. what does racket means?is it making some sort of noise?

      • Twister - concerns

        Hi all,

I am a beginner planning to get a bike, and I really like the Honda twister. I am kind of confused between Twister and Pulsar 135, and I have few queries regarding twister.

        1. Is the fact that the rear tyre is thin risk safety? Have you guys experienced skids, or issues, when applying sudden brakes.. or in wet conditions?

        2. Is a disc brake necessary? I have read reviews that the disc brake in twister is not too great.. and it makes a difference of more than 4K.

        Thanks.

        • the disk brake will help you a lot in traffic or emergencies, I driven a bike with drum brakes and you have tos tart breaking a lot before you stop, the response of the disk break is spectacular, I'm honestly loving my bike
As for the thin tyre: as long as it has enough air pressure in it it's not a risk... I remember driving with an almost flat tyre and I could seriously feel the difference after the air was filled...
I would rather be riding my bike thinking of God, than sitting in the temple thinking of my bike.

tyres are not risky. They are MRF tubeless and offer descent grip on wet road.I dint face grip issues.Lot depends on road condition.IF you learn the art of braking 70:30(front:rear)you are safe. twister has just about 105kg weight so disk brake is not really needed.if you have driven passion, splender then braking is same with drum brakes. However if you a carefree/rough driver go for disk brakes.

I went through all the free services and everytime all they did was wash it and wax it! and sometimes top-up the oil! i hate the service .
As of now other than oil i hav hardly paid 500 for a full bike cleanup from a nearby garage. i sat down and saw through the whole process. I love twister cos i clock 40 - 80 kms a day and on weekend if i'm on a trip i do 500-600 and never has my twister let me down.
and ya, i never have any gear slippage. it was there before the first service. thts the only thing the fixed! loll!
the rear tyre looks thin but i have done 11k kms of both city and highway in both wet and dry conditions and never had any issues wid it.

any suggestions on the air filter coz i found mine to be a bit too much dirty. coz i take it a lot in the hosur road which is hell for bikers.

I already have the unicorn numberplate. still every week i gotta go get it fixed.

you may be required to change the air cleaner since it is recommended after 15k distance.how did you know its dirty?and how does dirty air cleaner effect performance any idea?also do you know about cost of new air cleaner and spark plug for twister?

A month back when i was sittin and watchin my bike get serviced i noticed lot of dirt on the filter. The mechanic sprayed some petrol and did his best to mak it better. I hve no idea of the price of a new one coz uptil now my bike hasnt got any spares replaced! It is performing the same i feel no difference.
In fact i feel proud, coz when ur startin from traffic signal wid some gud heavyweights next to u (like FZ, P150, Shine, Uni) twister will hav the lead atleast until u hit 60. its jus stunning!

Actually it starts wid these heavyweights staring at my puny back tyre and thinking of smokin me. but as the signal goes green i can hear them revv their engines to the max trying to cath up wid the little devil!!!! Reminds me of my college days on my Rx100!

my experience has been exactly the same as you.I often race with a regular commuter on my way back home from office.he owns apache RTR.at traffic sign we start togather and i often zip through traffic with hardly any noise.till about50- 55km/hr i am ahead and by the time we both reach 60km/hr the traffic situation does not allow him to overtake me.so most of time he is behind me,whats more he gets almost half the mileage my twister gives.lol.

                    • How often do you guys fill air in the tyres?? And do they fill air during the free servicing? I'm asking because Ive had my free service a few weeks back and already my rear tyre seems to have less air in it.. I have checked it, but there dont seem to be any nails in it, so Im guessing its not a puncture!

Thts what makes us smarter we hav both performance and mileage in the city.
Just got to know the price of the air filter. Genuine honda spare costs 130rs only. will get mine changed this weekend.
I check my tyre air pressure everytime i'm refuelling. coz it is very important for the tyre to give longer life.

I get my air pressure checked/filled once a week. A few weeks is too long an interval. I would recommend you to get it filled once a week if you use your bike daily. I don't think they fill air during servicing.

I was keeping a watch on rate at which i loose air for last 2 months.I have noticed i am loosing about 4-5psi/month.now as we know honda has given different Tyre pressure for single rider and duel rider.so what i do is fill up slightly more air than recommended for single rider.(about 5 psi more for rear and 2-3 psi more for front)this way i get better pickup and mileage and i don't have to fill up air every week.I fill up once in a month.the disadvantage is that if road is not good then some road shocks are felt on handlebar but this problem resolves in few days time as i anyway loosing some air steadily.

I have read somewhere that new twister manuals have given different Tyre pressure then initial manuals.older ones like mine has 25/29 for single and 25/41 for dual rider(page22 on manual).could all new twister owner please check and tell us about new tyre pressure?
