Thanks for the advise guys...it was a 50kmph crash on the left side in a corner. I'm totally fine though...yeah I was wearing my riding gear. I didn't have to replace anything other than my helmet. Stuff that got bent was the engine guard, front shocks, handlebars, and the gear lever and lil scratch marks on the clutch lever and handle bar weight.

Got them all straighened out for 425rs... everything was fixed using a lathe machine. Thing is I'm so used to using maximum front brakes on my 821 and 390. Anyway lesson learnt! Lol

Richardson... sorry to hear about your experience with your avenger. I totally was having the same harsh NVH levels as you have mentioned. Do what I did bro...just go for motul 7100 10W40. The thinner oil suits the engine well in winters...

I feel the bike has two sweet spots...one is at 60. Here everything feels really smooth and refined. When you cross 60...the bike gets a lil vibey till 75 and then it smoothens out. Around 80ish where the needle is pointed straight up is the other sweet spot. There is a lil bit of a buzzing feeling but it's not the annoying kind.

Well honestly I am happy with my ride touch wood. From day 1 I mean day 1 when I got the first engine oil put and that was moto 4 gold 20 w 50. Yes I have been using this oil from my first engine oil change. Have also been using motul chain lube.. every 500 km I make it a point to use it. This is the reason that today my bike rides like a butter without problems or anything getting a millage of 45 to 52 in between in city riding only. One thing which I am very particular is of not speeding ever hence I only ride the bike on 5th gear and ag 40 to 45 speed. This is my ideal speed of my ride. As this is a cruiser machine not a sports bike. Hence I like to ride it slow and steady. Also when changing the engine oil which is in an interval of 2000 km I also get the filter change of my seed.
This happens to be my 6 bike from bajaj stable. Hence with my experience on there bike I just know one thing that what ever you do don't let the mechanic touch anything apart from the change of engine oil or filter. If u say tell him that chain has got loose. Oh my god you will do a crime this way. When the bike will come to you there will be weird sound when ridding. By the end you will be going again and again for the re correction of the mistake you asked him to do. I have gone through this hence sharing something here.
But in the end the head mechanic will solve your problem for sure. But this all will take time and energy.
Hence I say a big no to my mechanic.
I have seen that many here as well as outside alot of people are complaining about the break issue. As for me I put in both simultaneously front and back together and this helps me to stop the bike instant as many times it has happened yes of course there should be no gravel or sand and then time otherwise I had it.
Well at the end just waiting for the tubeless tyre.
I also came accross a picture on facebook of this bike.sharing with you all. The best part of this is the comfortable seats has anyone seen this kind of a change on the seat happen how can it be done. Please advice.

I am very well aware of the poor and un-balanced braking this bike has. The handling is as bad as it can get for high speed rides. This is one of the reasons, I spent heavily(~15,000) on a decent pair of safety riding gear (Jacket,Helmet,Knee/Shin/Elbow Protector,Gloves - saving up for boots/better gloves for next purchase) and wear them all the time, regardless of how funny and awkward it may look while riding a low displacement bike, haha!

Anyways, let me sail back to the topic I wanted to bring forward.
So, this may not sound very pleasing to the ones who are in love with this bike.
It has been a month precisely since the date I brought my Avenger 220 Street home from the Bajaj Dealership. The initial impression was good, due to the riding comfort and posture - though it took a while to adjust.
Tons of issues were faced during first 500kms, which I was promised that will go away after servicing.

So had my bike serviced after clocking 508kms/25 days on the Odometer.
-> The Rear Brakes are as horrible as they can be. The worst brakes I ever used in my life on any bike. It simply lacks the stopping power by huge margins! A rear-disc is so much of a necessity, because those rear drums are as impotent as they can get. The only way you can feel the rear brakes a bit is to put them on the tighter side - this reducing the free-play of the rear wheel and you will get the feeling all the time that something is dragging the rear wheel - because the brakes will always be in contact with rear wheel even when not being applied.

-> Bike has such a effed up NVH levels. The engine feels strained even after touching 1/3 of the throttle/rpm. If you twist the throttle even a bit more than what you can gentle twist, the bike will roar and will feel as if the engine will blow-up.
The harshness/roughness is way too much in the engine. RIP engine Refinement.

-> I used to hear about the vibration stories of RE and how it can make your girl-friend feel funny while riding it ( pun intended ). I didn't buy an RE, particularly because of their high maintenance and vibes. However, I seem to regret the decision of buying avenger too after how the vibes are coming up.
The bike barely touches 55-60kmph in 5th gear, and if you try to push the throttle a bit - the entire bike, top to bottom starts vibrating horribly!! When I say vibration, I mean it. It vibrates no less than a massage machine.
Since I am still in break-in period, so I only ride under 60kmph most of the time in fifth gear (40-60kmph). However, once in a while I gently twist the throttle to speeds beyond 60kmph and for few seconds to test how it performs above 60. The worst I have done to the engine during break-in was 70-75kmph for a couple of seconds, then back to below 55-60kmph mark.

-> Gearbox feels like a girl on her period. Sometimes, it behaves so smoothly and sometimes it changes the mood so much that I literally have to apply heavy pressure on the gear to change them ( and FYI I wear very heavy Woodland Boots! ).

->Cold start is a mess. It's winter here in Delhi and to start off the engine, even with using Choke for long and strong the bike dies off. I have to rev the throttle to keep the engine in idle for few minutes.

I am honestly not anywhere close to being called happy with my bike in current performance outputs. The vibrations and roughness along with poor performance feeling after specific engine RPM or 60 kmph is what makes me regret my decision to buy this bike!

I will wait till 1000km mark, after which I will go for Engine Oil change to Motul Hybrid 15W50 and Motul Chain lube. If things still feel rough and full of vibes, I am sure as hell going to sell this and get a Honda FZ or Suzuki!

A Very Disappointed Buyer!
Got my first service week ago , after first service the gear shifter became hard with mood swings like yours. Sometimes it's smooth , some time rough maybe cause they added Bajaj oil with some enhancer .not gonna use Bajaj oil with some chemical enhancer or booster , went to local mechanic and even. Asc they said it's normal and we can't change more setting.there are screw on right side with adjust clutch and shifter .read review about motul hybrid which you mentioned on Amazon and many say it's best for Bajaj bikes or I should say dtsi engines.even pulsar 220f guy on his review said shifter has became smooth. btw Did they add any booster while oil change ?

Btw I noticed. Tik tik sound coming near engine when you start bike and keep idling and when you stop the bike. Went to asc they said it's normal , some air and fuel compression reason they gave.is it true ? i read many pages before in this thread some said its spark plug issue ,but the asc guys says its fine .I am confused , gonna go this wednesday and meet service manager

I am also facing cold start issue even after running 10 kms . I go back using bike after hour , it doesn't start in 5 tries.

they even tightened rear brakes , I almost skidded .

had very bad experience in first service. They messed up all good things I had about bike , like smooth gear shifter , no tik tik sound.

First of all get rid of the bajaj engine oil. And pour in moto 4 gold 20 w 50 engine oil without any boosters please. It is all a gimic to add and thing be it fuel or in engine oil.
Secondly this tic tic sound which comes in from the engine is basically the sound which comes when the engine is started the first time in the morning but after the engine oil is set in the engine it should stop. As for the cold start issue I am guessing they have messed up with the carburetor setting. Get it done from a good local mechanic. So that this problem is solved from there but not from the asc they have a habit of calling the bike again and again. I have gone through. Also get some rear break loosen down from the local mechanic too.
Rest I am sure you will love this bike. Don't worry just get in touch with a good mechanic and get rid of this bajaj oil.it is the worst oil I have seen.

Hi ,
My avy street 220 has 2.5K in ODO till now. Done with servicing at 1.5K and changed the engine oil . I'm planning a trip from Hyderabad to Goa this Month end. Around 1500 kms to and fro. Any one has done a trip from Hyderabad to goa ? Any route options and suggestion's?
What are the things need to be taken care. After engine oil change I drove around 1.5k kms. Do I need to change it again before my trip starts ? I'll do a chain clean before the trip !

ravitejas1993 firstly I wish you all the best for your long trip. As for the engine oil what I have learnt if you are heading to highways it is always a must to change the engine oil irrespective of your last change or km. So buddy the right thing would be of changing the engine oil for the better ment of the bike and a hassle free ride all along.

I was searching for comfortable bike for my daily commuting purpose. I live in navi mumbai and need to travel to my office in mumbai. I own TVS Jupitor and Bajaj Discover 125.
Though Discover is good bike and served me for almost 10 years! I still use that bike.
Now new bike bug bite me and started looking for new bike.
My requirement was solid built, classic look, comfort and long term serviceability.
I selected Royal enfield bikes first, and Himalayan was first choice. I visited their showroom and when I saw that bikes on display, I thought I cannot handle these heavy bikes in traffic and also vibrations, less fuel economy, heavy maintenance will not serve my daily purpose.I dropped that bikes from my list.
Then I started reading about bajaj V bike. Seriously I wanted to purchase it but I did not like its Headlight ( very awkward) and rear seat was very small.
Bajaj has ruined that bike, it was a golden opportunity to make that bike which would suit the reputation of INS Vikrant. Bajaj could have made it premium bike like Harley and solid like Bullet and people would have jumped to purchase it. At the end, V15 was out from my list.
My friend suggested me about Avenger 150 which is very popular inn market. I also liked that bike and decided to buy it.

I booked its test ride online and I got call from Bajaj service team and fixed appointment on Sunday 27th Nov 16. I asked to service person if the showroom is available on sundays and he said yes. Next morning me and my wife went to city showroom but it was closed! angry!
So we went to 2-3 local showrooms and took quotations. They did not have 150 model in Blue color so We decided to buy from authorized dealer only.
Next morning (monday 28th Nov 16) I visited the showroom with all documents and bank cheques in hand. I booked Aveneger 150 and called my wife that i have booked the bike. While I was on call, I saw Golden Avenger 220! I told my wife about that bike and sent its images on whatsapp. She called me after minute and told that golden bike looks very beautiful. Next moment I cancelled 150 and booked 220 Gold!
Submitted all the documents and returned to home.Delivery was planned 3-4 days later. Same day evening I received call from showroom that Bike is available and you can take the delivery same day. I was very happy but decided to take delivery on 30 Nov 16.
On 30 Nov, me and my wife went to showroom on her White Jupitor and reached at 5.30 pm. Bike was in washing center and we waited for almost an hour for completing all the documentation. Finally at 7pm bike was ready to go! First look of bike was like shining star!
Gold colour with chrome finishing was looking very attractive at night lights. I was riding on 220 and wife was following me on her Jupitor.
People around were looking at me and my bike and On next signal my wife asked me if i was really feeling like God?? I said Yes!

I call it Golden cat!!

Hi Friends,

I own a suzuki gixxer 155. I am getting constant shoulder pain when commuting daily with backpack on. Also, the traffic is a pain in my city. I wanted to change to a scooter which can carry luggage and be easy to ride - without much strain on wrists. But I don't want to lose out on the cool factor as well - don't want aprilia sr 150 for other reasons. Recently though, I test rode cruise 220 avenger and found it impressive. Light clutch and gear, responsive throttle and amazing stability. However I am interested in street 150 and 220 - I prefer 150 for my usage within the city.

Now considering that my commute is 30 km daily to and fro and occasionally many other longer commutes within the city, I want to know whether street 150 will be good for the stop and go traffic and reduce my shoulder and wrist pain. Additionally, I want the following details:

- Does 150 street come with tubeless tyres?

- How is it while riding with a backpack on shoulders? I know the riding position is pretty upright and relaxed but does it hurt? Is there any other way to keep the backpack, like on the tank and in between the legs - I don't want to buy a tank bag or panniers separately.

- How is the reliability of this bike? People warn me not to buy Bajaj motorcycles as they start giving huge troubles within two years of purchase. This will be my bike for at least 5 years once I decide to buy one.

- Do the clutch and gear shifts feel the same as cruise 220? light and easy to use in stop and go traffic without much pain on wrists?

- How is the maneuverability in traffic? I found the cruise a little too big to make tight turns in street.

- Do traffic police dig this bike? I know this is funny but traffic police usually stop all the sporty ones - fz, gixxer, ktms and pulsars. They don't bother much about scooters. I do not know about this one, so how's it with the cops?

- I'm 5'11" tall and I found the handlebar on cruise little cumbersome. Is it the same with street models?

Kindly answer my questions and let me know if I should choose this over a scooter for my usage and convenience.

Thanks,

Srinath.

Cruise 220 is on the comfortable side over Street only when it comes to straight line highways. Otherwise for street commute, and not the perfect roads, street will feel and maneuver far better than cruise on any day.
Unless you're planning on doing 100km+ rides in a day street will be best suited. Though, for anyone above 5ft,10" the bike will not be comfortable at all. It's best suited for people below 5ft,8".

Street 150 is > Street 220 in terms of fuel efficiency, engine refinement and wallet, however it has 30% lower torque and peak power figures. While this may not be a big deal in city commute at all, as it has ample grunt similar to most other 150cc bike.
It's the highways where it will run out of breath if you're carrying lots of luggage and or pillion. Also, after reaching 85-90kmph,it will start feeling out of power. The 70 extra cc of displacement in 220cc will help you overcome this upto a mark where you can cruise easily over 100kmph and reach up to 125kmph with vibrations sinking in around 110+.
Also lower torque means it will take 17s for 150cc to make it to 100kmph whereas the 220cc will be able to reach that mark in 12.5s.

As far as cops are concerned, well if you're having proper documents then you don't need to worry.
Although, I have been caught once but that was because I accidentally jumped a red light at India's most expensive markets :haha: that was scary for me lol....but I am very noob rider.

As far as cops are concerned,

By the way, can someone help me with the gear to speed ratio for Street 220 ?
I am looking it from someone who has done less than 2000kms and from someone who has done more than 5000-10000 kms.

Just want to know what is the sweet spot you guys find for the gear to speed ratio, while keeping the engine not too revved up and stressed. Since the bike doesn't have a tacho so I know the job gets difficult.

My current ratios are : 1st - 15kmph, 2nd - 20-25kmph, 3rd - 35kmph ( I find this gear very small ) , 4th gear seems taller with speed ratio between 30-50kmph, and 5th gear - 40/45 and above ( sometimes the engine stalls at 40 when it's cold, but when the engine is hot the bike runs at 35 too in 5th gear lol ).

Yesterday I installed additional step for saree guard as new Avengers dont have one. It become difficult for elder women to sit and rest their legs in absence of footrest (step).
I installed it from local market.
Installation time 2 min, cost : 220 Rs.
Now anyone can sit on rear seat of bike easily.

I drive with exact same ratio, though there is no tachometer, its very easy to judge the engine stress. On 5th Gear bike runs smooth on between 50-60 kmph

Thanks,

Srinath.

Hi,
All three models are superb!
Street model is good for city ride but my Cruise is also good there. I did not find any difficulty in driving mumbai traffic .
-New street Avengers may come with Tubeless tyres but Cruise wont.
-Avengers are reliable than RE bikes and routine maintenance is all that you need. Maintenance cost is low and spares are easily available.
-150 street will give you more mileage and driving comfort also.
-Take a pic of yourself while sitting on bike and decide how it suits your height, I am 5'4" so it suits me.

I selected cruise for its looks, classic chrome finished parts, oil cooled engine and Golden Cat is not common on road.
Traffic cops generally stops sports bikes but cruise bike riders are decent people so no worry

Thanks bro for advice , yes i gonna change oil from break in period , as i read somewhere it is advised not to go for synthetic oil in break in period , corect if i am wrong.gonna visit service center tomo asking them to check carb , as bike doesnt start in one go heck even in 3 to 4 times , if its parked over an hour , even after riding many kms.
I adjusted gear shifter from local mechanic and he improved it lot but still not smooth as my first month riding, guess due to that stupid booster they added.

thanks again , i love this bike a lot , it was my dream to own avenger(or any cruiser)

1.How will be the Castrol active power one 20w50 for street 150, I had used in my Cbz, it was the best, ultra smooth.

2. Need clarification, the bajaj ASC won't use the oil given by us, they will use their own bajaj oil. And if we don't get the bike serviced at ASC for recommended times 3 free and 4 paid, I'm afraid warranty would be not be given. So not sure how to use our preferred oil.

3. Also my bike has completed around 3700kms and 2nd service is due at 4.5kms. Bike is not as smooth as it should be around and beyond 60kmph. Ride is not really enjoyable. Are the vibes because of bajaj oil used in first service, please advise.

This is what I Have been reiterating in this thread over few weeks. The bike literally sucks at speeds around 60-75/80kmph. Since I am in break in period, so never went beyond 75kmph, even 60+ speeds only lasted few seconds.
The vibes are horrible and I like to blame the engine oil for it. Bajaj engine oil is terrible, and they insist using it for some reasons. Though they didn't mention any additive in the engine oil but I am sure something went bad.
I am desperate to clean the current engine oil and use Motul hybrid 15w50....but as it has only been 200km since service so I would hate to waste the current oil. Maybe, after next 300-350kms I will go for Oil change. The Bajaj ASC will never know that I used a different oil.

The asc guy himself advised that do the oil change from outside and acknowledged that their oil sucks.
