  • Re: Bajaj Pulsar 150 All Versions

regarding the flatslide, on measurement of my bikes carb I had found that it was 26 mm across, I replaced it with a spare 30 mm flatslide[ the ones commonly seen in the cast iron bullets].

The affect was; 1) the throttle response was immediate, where as with the cv there seemed to be a delay, with this the response was immediate, so much so that I could raise the rpm and hold it to a degree.
    2) exhaust note seemed more aggressive
    3) Bike had the old school 'feel' mute when the engine was cold and lively as the engine temperatures increased
    4) top end increased slightly [perhaps because of the larger carb] 112 to 121

    the negatives were
    1) cranky response, in short, the cv modulates to a degree the outside temp pressure and engine temp to ensure a relative smooth operation, with the flats, if the conditions were not ideal[relative to the tuning], the engine behaved erratically.
    2) rich mixture, for some reason i could not get lean enough [ maybe because of the larger jets]
    3) loss of mid range, the bike had two conditions, full out or low speed there was simply no gradual rise.

ultimately I preferred the flatslide as it was 1) more aggressive 2) had that 'carb kick' the immediate surge in power when the main jet takes over the pilot jet , which i found lacking in the cv carb.

      Hi everyone,
I own a pulsar 2003 classic(non-dtsi), the mechanic I have been visiting asked me to get the carburator replaced as the throttle response isn't good and the engine shuts at low speeds and standstill. The bike seems very stressed at high rpms. It vibrates a lot and I feel the 5th gear has some issues as there's some difficulty in engaging it and transmission as well. The clutch needs work too.

Anyway, coming to the point, is the carburetor in the first edition similar to those in later pulsars(150s)? Can I replace the current carburetor with one from, say, a ug 3/4/4.5?

        Hi,
i have pulsar 150 ug 4.5 model(2010), since the bike clocked 65k km, recently (a month ago) i have changed engine kit(both piston & bore), clutch plate, timing chain, rocker arm, spark plugs and some other child parts, due to over noise came from engine and burning smell also came while riding continously

after that i rode bike only below 4k rpm @ below 50km/hr and still too... I have checked mileage which gives around 45+kmpl (city & long mixed). I have crossed 500km after new engine kit changed.

How long should i ride below 4k rpm ?

The bike pickup is not feel like pulsar and some stage around 3k to 4k rpm on odo the pickup is slow. I dont know why !

Apart from that the headlamp brightness is low (both low & high beam) compared to another ug4.5 version . It is very difficult to ride in night times

now my question is... Am i change the bulb or rectifier or something else to increase the brightness... ?

I need your help please reply... Thanks in advance

(the previous bulb is stock one)

I would suggest running sanely during the run-in period. Ride within 50km/hr for 1000kms and then more up gradually. Ride the next 1000kms within 5k rpm and the next 1000 within 6k rpm and so on. A new engine won't feel like a regular engine. Also, if it hasn't been properly built there will be performance issues.

65k is quite a lot and you should change your headlamp, reflector and lighting coil (if needed). Use Osram Silverstar if you're searching for better lighting.

                    Hello all,
                    My short Story:
I wanted to buy a commuter bike for work and city commute. My 200ns was lacked comfort. It made me feel tired by the time i reached my destination. And with just avg of 30+ kmpl i was strongly convinced to buy a commuter bike. I did lots of research and concluded shine sp 125 ticked all my boxes. The onroad was close to Rs 80000. But then i had a thot of considering a second hand bike. I looked for cheap deals. Suzuki gs150r 6 gear was tempting. But suzuki spares were expensive. And also the spares might be difficult to source. So came pulsar 150, but i was clear on prefering ug2 model with silver alloy and silver engine. As thats the only pulsar 150 i liked in terms of looks. Simple and not so edgy and pointy design. Silver alloys and silver engine And love for the analog meter.

Luckily i found a pulsar 150 ug2 2005 single owner genuine 58k kms. The bike was kept in basement and for past 8 years it barely run 100km a year. The condition was very good for 14 year old bike. Not even once was the insurance lapsed, maintained timely. All work done only in bajaj svc center. New battery amaron put a 6mths back and insurance valid for another 10months.

Now coming to the repair required on the bike. It badly required new set of tyres. Engine oil and clutch plate as the gear was too hard. Front and rear tyre were jammed. Exhaust was rusted. And as usual routine service. One good thing i find about such bike is the spares are pretty cheap.

The bike costed me 8.7k and 3.3k for tyres, 1.2k for 2nd hand silencer. 1k for complete clutch set and 400 for oil +500 for service.
Ofcoz there are few other small expenses like airfilter and break pad. But all in all my total expenditure has been 16000 including the bike cost and maintenance.

Now coming to the result. After all this repair, the bike has become unbelivable smooth. The gears are precise the suspension is perfect as i wanted. The bike glides, and behaves as if i just got it from showroom. The avg i get is easily 50kmpl. And top speed of 110kmph with pillion. I feel very happy that i opted for this bike wich has more of character and personality than the current commuter bikes and at such a price.
Second Service Update, of my Pre-Owned Pulsar 150 DTSI UG2. (14yr old)

ODO reads 64000km now, purchased at 58000km. Completed 6000km & The Bike is still running Strong.

What i want to highlight here is the maintenance cost on this bike, Absolutely minimal.
Work done on 2nd service as follows.

                    1) Chain Cover noise
                    2) Caliper Jam's when handle turned right (overhaul of front caliper)
                    3) Helmet Lock Removal (required cutting of the lock)
                    4) Coneset Bearing lose (tightening the bearing)
                    5) Oil Change / Air Filter Changed & regular checkup and greasing
                    6) Overhaul Swingarm and replace the Bushing
                    7) Side Stand leaning too much for my liking (new 150 bracket sourced and welded to chassis)
                    8) Leg Guard Bend (Straightening required)

All this Costed me 1300rs Including oil/spares and Labour.

Very Happy with my Decision of Purchasing Classic Bike instead of buying new 125cc motorcycle.
What i Like about this motorcycle

                    1) Classic and Subtle Look of the motorcyle ( Those Silver Alloys, i like them any day compare to Black ones)
                    2) Purchase Cost is very low, maintenance & Spares are almost Negligible compared to new Motorcyles
                    3) Smooth & torquey 150 DTSI engine, No Buzz/vibration till 90kmph, Cruises easily at 85-90kmph with top speed of 110 with pillion. Perfect Balance of torque and Mileage (50kmpl)
                    4) Lower Pillion Seat height for Family. Ride & seat both are soft & plush
                    5) Light & easy to maneuver

Tried Uploading Pictures but its failed to upload. ill try uploading again by evening.

What I Dislike is the Headlight its too weak.
Any Solution or Suggestion for this AC Setup Headlight???

Good to hear about your experience. I myself upgraded from Honda Shine to Bajaj Pulsar 220. These old gen Pulsars have good characteristics, soft sprung and torquey low end. Add to that easy parts availability and low cost to maintain.

Although I'd advise you to get a new leg guard instead of bending a bent one as it compromises the safety aspect. And change air filter every 5k kms and change to any simple cheap mineral oil at 2-3k kms (in my experience, Waxpol oil is smooth for Pulsars).

Hey there, even I was close to buying a NEW Honda Shine for comfort and Mileage, but the prices have sky rocketed even for a puny commuter. Hence this made more sensible decision for me.
And Yeah you are right about the leg guard, will soon buy a new one.
As of now am Using Mobil1 20w40. And as per my experience its smooth as well. Only after 2000km it loses its refinement a bit.

Cant really do anything great with stock setup.

But i can give ome suggestions. I have the same bike

                            - 1. Change the headlight Original assembly to new wolf eyed model and change the bulb to Philips crystal vision or Philips normal bulb 35/35 watt.
The beam spread and visibility increases many folds for this setup.

But If you wish to increase your light focus and strength significantly.

Point 1 is must and should try this first and still if you are not satisfied enough try the below points for supporting upto 60/55w bulb

                            2. Avenger 180 stator coil + Avenger 180 Rectifier + 60/55W bulb

Avenger 180 rectifier is a must because the stock rectifier can not not handle the extra power and can fail at any point.

Bulb options for 60/55 w : Philips Xtreme vision (Costly) or New Pulsar 200 NS Headlight bulb (only new model) or Normal Philips 60/55 w bulb( available at maruti spares , just ask philips 60/55w bulb for Maruti zen )

But theres a catch... the Pass switch responds slowly. This is because Pulsar 150 UG2 heavily rely on AC current for Speedo Bulbs, Pilot lamps, brake light(when you switch on headlight), number platelight(you can safely remove it to decrease load) when compared to avenger 180.

                            3. Add a bit of extra wire from regulator to headlight to decrease the load on stock wire.

And for the oil Pulsar atleast upto UG4 need xW50 grade oil. xW40 will not be good at all.
Valvoline Xtra premium synthetic blend (Semi synthetic oil) 20w50 is the best oil for any Pulsar till date. Holds strong even at 3500 Kms. None can beat this oil at its price range.,

None can beat this oil at its price range.,
thanks for the advice will surely try the avenger setup.

Making it DC from AC setup. Is it worth it?
